Here are mine, the ones i can think of right now anyways:

Murder City devils - too long ago @ The Icehouse

Wesely Willis @ Lucky (though wesely was funny as hell, country teasers opened and they were bitch'n)

Rev. Horton Heat w/ Hank Williams III @ Legends (I'm not a big fan of legends - But nonetheless the music was definate compensation)

Bob Log III @ Thursdays (Logan's)

Nashville Pussy @ The Limit (back when they had the original bassist who blew fire...Last time around they seemd a little tame)

The Slackers @ The Limit (last live show to ever take place at The Limit)

I'll probably end up listing more as my mind starts to gather and the fog lifts, but that's my 2 cents for now - Fri, 21 Nov 2003 5:30pm

In Victoria, mine would probably be (or at least the one's that stand out tonight)....

The Forgotten Rebels at Harpo's in 1994 - Mickey Desadist was in exeeeeellent form and the beer and blood was a flowing.

The New Bomb Turks / Pansy Division at Harpo's also in 1994 - The New Bomb Turks, with that show and their sound, changed music for me forever.

The Supersuckers at the Ice House in Feb 2001 - Eddie Spaghetti and co. were in TOP form that night, I was out with a big crew, the booze was treatin' me well, and I hooked up with one sexy doll....

Death by Stereo at Logan's this past spring - it'd been a while since I'd last seen / heard a band for the first time that TOTALLY blew me away.

hmmm... and the fifth would be...if I had to choose one right now... Rocket From the Crypt / The Smuggler's / The Drag's at the Limit in '95........ - Fri, 21 Nov 2003 5:54pm

That's really a hard one. I was lucky enough to have caught just about every single one of my favourite (at the time) groups here in Victoria. We have honestly had an outstanding scene throughout the past 2 decades and our little town has become world reknown as a result. artists that have played here and later "exploded" onto the world-wide scene were Pearl Jam, Nirvana, RHCP, BLack Flag, Meat Puppets....etc. Some of the most memorable for me werethe gigs in the old Metropole basement with the Dayglows and either NMN or the Infamous scientists. Crowding into Whiteheads little shack there on Johnson +Cook (now retail) and standing in more than a few inches of water while The Dayglows jammed (so fkn dangerous!!) Best ever (for me really was NoMeansNo, Shovlhed + Victims Family at the Deahpit over in VIcWest. About 80-100 crammed into a storage locker with the damn door SHUT TIGHT so as not to attract attention in the residential neighbourhood. Sweat was pouring off the cieling like so many running taps. Intense but at the time....fucking joyous. - Sat, 22 Nov 2003 5:11am

The Summer of 2002 at SoundGarden when it was in it's prime i will never forget. Some amazing gigs. it's depressing to think back at how awesome it was there, then, and now it's gone. EXITHISIDE, Dizzy, Strapping Young Lad, they rocked my brain.

ALSO, Zimmers Hole at the Ingy 2002 was quite the show. i even got hit by a piece of cheese with "Show Your ASS" written on it........ good times, good times ; ) - Sat, 22 Nov 2003 9:31pm

hmmm, Hanson Brothers at Lucky bar ruled. But then again they always do.
Naked Raygun at the union hall was one of my all time favourites, man I loved that band back in the day.
D.R.I. at the Rats Nest, something about seeing a band of that calibre in a basement with maybe fifty other people there it was pretty damn sweet.
Anyone of a million Dayglos shows, just pick one from the list they're usually all pretty damn entertaining.
Let's not forget Black Flag at the o.a.p. hall, seeing Henry in person when I was like 15 was almost enough to make me pee my pants.
Victims Family and No Means No at the cedarhill rec centre, wow what a show.
N.O.F.X. and Lagwagon playing in my basement at the Hillside Hellhouse.
Greenday playing in my basement at the Hillside Hellhouse.
Kill Allen Wrench, and A.W.T. at the Lucky bar, had a great time at that show.
The Accused, up at the university, one of my all time favorite bands.
S.N.F.U. at the union hall, got so damn excited at the show I ended up smacking a cop in the face and getting thrown in jail... ah well, live and learn.
Motorhead at the curling club. Ended up shooting pool with Lemmy after hours at the bar. Pretty damn surreal doing shooters with Lemmy and trying not to giggle like a little girl.
Not a victoria show, but probably my all time favorite show. A.W.T. playing at the Cobalt, when we finished playing I walked off stage and looked up and there was Kerry King, and Jeff Hanneman from Slayer standing there with a bunch of tequila shots for us. We ended up hanging out and getting drunk it was unfuckingreal. Nothing like meeting the people you idolized when you were a kid.
Least favorite show, Bad Religion at the White Eagle hall, what a bunch of stuck up pretentious total fucking goofs. Never have I met a band that needed to be taken outside and shitkicked more than those pricks. - Sun, 23 Nov 2003 8:22am

Hmmmm... there's been so many shows, I've lost track, however...

Black Flag at the O.A.P. I still remember to this day, especially Henry's sun tattoo (I was front row center).

I've never seen the Dayglo's live, wierd huh?

SNFU w/Micky Christ in 2000 at the Icehouse (my first M.C. gig, and it rocked). It was my birthday, so I thought "What the hell, go see this Micky Christ band." Ended up drunk as a skunk, remembered everything till I left and the cold air hit my head. Last thing I remember, kissing the curb half a block away from my house. How embarassing, but at least the police were nice and walked me home. ;)

I also saw D.O.A. at the Icehouse, drank all day but was sober enough to chat with Joey Shithead (one of my heroes) later that night before the gig, he was in the lounge to eat/drink beers, first thing he asked, "Could you please turn the hockey game on the TV? Thanks!" We chatted about the label, and when was Hardcore 81 being released onto CD.

Hey Jay, that Cobalt gig, is that the same one off the unmastered AWT CD?

Saw Motorhead at the Curling Club (what a RUSH!!!!!) and later that night met Lemmy (another one of my heroes), what a nice guy, wikid pool player and totally addicted to video games. Sat with his g/f and/or wife, what a nice lady.

NoMeansNo at the Fernwood Community Hall (YouKillMe tour, half hippies, half punk rockers!!!), really fun.

I remember (I think) seeing Armoros at the Sooke Town Hall. What a mess that turned out to be, too much fighting.

I'll probably remember a half dozen more later on... BTW: That's cool I live not even 100 feet away from the Hillside Hellhouse. Too bad there's no liquor store across the street anymore :( - Sun, 23 Nov 2003 6:27pm

LOL......hey Griph....Armoros never played Sooke Hall.....but every show we played stirred violence for sum reason.....major damage @ the Fernwood Comm Center and the good ole O.A.P hall.
1) Anvil Armoros @ Harpos.....lead singer Lips was all cool with us until we played...I guess we were too thrashy (or shitty)for him....although they had just finished doin sum dates with Death...??
2)Kick Axe Armoros @ Harpos.....what can I say...preload blown......speed thrash...then Kick Axe jumps up playin on the Road to Rock in spandex......that was a mixed line-up....cool guys....wikkid drum kit!
3)the many gigs we played with Mission of Christ, Forced Entry, Karrion, Arcfiend
4) Zimmer's Hole & Strapping.....everytime...dammit
5) Scorpions, Iron Maiden and Girlschool!
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Mon, 24 Nov 2003 10:49am

5 (97 or 98 cant remember) years ago, The Promise Ring with Compound Red and Roadside Monument at the old Pandora Projects.

Followed shortly By Botch at Little Fernwood.

Even though it was a small croud, I really enjoyed the Femme Fatale show at Thursdays in March of 2003 was it? Something like that.

The Trial show at Little Fernwood was great as well. I remember a great metal band Drift from Quebec coming out around the same time and playing a show there as well. - Mon, 24 Nov 2003 5:19pm

K8 , you must mean the matinee show? That was weird, playing in a abar in the middle of the day, just felt funny.. especially all the kids in there!

Define recent history?

Cephalic Carnage/December was an awesome show, one of the best metal shows I have ever seen in Victoria, too bad only about 75 people showed up

HIMSA @ JCC, the second best metal show Ive ever seen in Victoria, too bad only about 50 showed up. Shared a label with Lamb Of God till LOG got signed to Epic.

Misery Signals/ML7/Undying/Iskra/ETWWK @ JCC - What can I say? Misery Signals made my top 10 albums of 2003. Their next album to be produced by Devin Townsend. Again, only about 50 people showed up. Their loss.

Going WAAAAAY back to Entombed at THe Forge, and of course Napalm Death/Brutal Truth at Harpo's.

notable mention:

Cryptopsy @ Icehouse

VoiVod @ The Limit ( 50 people showed, tops )

Queens Of The Stoneage , Legends and again at Icehouse ( too bad the bouncers beat everyone up at the Legends show )

Motorhead/Fu Manchu @ CCC

missed Nebula @ Icehouse, still kickin myself. - Mon, 24 Nov 2003 7:01pm

"missed Nebula @ Icehouse, still kickin myself"

I went to that show - there were probably 50 people MAXIMUM at that show too! Nebula had the groove goin' and it was indeed a good show. Also saw Fu Manchu at the Limit (probably winter 96-97) and there were like 40 very enthusiastic people MAX at that show! I hadn't had much exposure to FM before the show and I was VERY impressed; been a fan ever since. Also, there were like 20 people MAX at the Clutch show at Harpo's a few year's back! AND people bitch about no good shows coming to Victoria.... - Mon, 24 Nov 2003 8:30pm

Not sure how many of you folk were around at the time but now that I think about it, THE single best live show that I manage to witness would have to be the first Fishbone show at Harpo's. Right after "Truth$Soul" the band was arguably at their finest point. Never forget the crowd carrying Angelo all over the club then out into the square (wireless mic.) That was some night. Think that was the night my bass amp arc'd bluelightning out the back too.... - Tue, 25 Nov 2003 2:12pm
