Sheesh, I'm a little embarassed for Victoria.

Cracker currently have a number 14 song in the U.S. and only 25 or so people went to this show. Perhaps people don't like going way out to the V-Lounge, I don't know.

I saw them on Conan a few years ago promoting a tribute album of music by The Fall. They played..., you guessed it "Victoria". I wondered would they play it here? Of course and I screamed my head off.

So here they were on the 4th of July, their country's birthday singing as song about our city's colonial namesake and no one shows up. And on a Saturday night!

They ripped through all the hits, Eurotrash Girl, What The World Needs Now, Low even the Feelies cover Shake. It sounded fresh and well played with gusto despite the fact that they had to babysit the soundman who didn't understand that Johnny Hicks' guitar needed to be much louder.

Even the new tunes were great, Time Machine (from the new Jack Black flick), Tune In Turn On Drop Out With Me.

I was hoping for some Camper Van Beethoven tunes since Victor was opening, Take The Skinheads Bowling, Joeseph Stalin's Cadillac, Eye of Fatima etc.

Instead people only got up and 2-stepped to the more country sounding songs. It was like being at a Saskatchewan wedding on a set for Anthony and Cleopatra (fake palm trees and corinthian columns).

I spoke briefly with their tour manager who asked about other venues for the next time. I urged them to come back. No slight to the V-Lounge but I don't think it was good match.

The place filled up right after with dance club tards digging Kid Rock's Sweet Home Alabama remix... awkward. I'm sure if I still did drugs I would find it all surreal and amusing, but I don't so I didn't.

Come on people you're killing me here. - Mon, 6 Jul 2009 4:06pm

When it comes to crackers, the only thing people need to be made aware of is; "don't eat, too many, Breton Crackers". - Mon, 6 Jul 2009 5:44pm

Whats ridiculous is that low turnouts happen over here and Seattle too, with our huge populations. Lots of competition shouldn't mean shit when its old bands like that.

I totally would've gone to that if circumstances were right. I just didn't want to see them in a slick new venue/dance bar on Granville St on the bar's opening night. Not that thats a bad thing, but its just too much naked/giddy/shrieking excitement for a Cracker show.
I remember seeing them on my birthday one year, dancing around with my friends. It was wierd cuz they seemed to play the commodore on my birthday every year for a while there. Like the peppers played new years in sf every year... which is neither here nor there...

Take me down to the infirmary
lay me down on cotton sheets
Put a damp cloth on my forehead
lay me down and let me sleep

I know the whiskey won't soothe my soul
and the morphine won't heal my heart
but if you take me down to the infirmary
I won't have to sleep or drink alone - Mon, 6 Jul 2009 10:41pm Edited: Mon, 6 Jul 2009 10:44pm

I agree that lack of promo was the downfall for this show. I didn't see one poster or hear anything about it until sat night browsing through the show listings. Unfortunate really, they are aa great band. - Tue, 7 Jul 2009 10:01am

Their have been ads in Monday Magazine for months and apparently the TC was a sponsor although I didn't see anything there about it.

I didn't notice any radio support. It's hard to say if the ball was dropped, the ads ran forever but no posters or radio. Perhaps the promoter or venue, whoever did the booking could have pushed more.

As for mr. hell I wonder why you are asking who I am?

I don't post as often as I used to mostly because of the quality of discourse here. It's a shame because it can be a great diversion. If you're the sound man fro the show and want to bust my chops, well there is a reason we all use avatars isn't there. Otherwise just e-mail. - Tue, 7 Jul 2009 4:13pm Edited: Tue, 7 Jul 2009 4:14pm

Mr. Hell,
I re-read the posts and finally understood your comment as revealed by Krieg. Then I got the cracker/triscuit joke after the fact.

I have great diction but shitty comprehension.

P.S. I'm presumed dead but technically only missing ;-) - Mon, 13 Jul 2009 11:25am
