feeling jewed the ads all said $8 admission and i get to the door and am asked for $10. for one thing it wouldn't have been a big deal if i knew it would be $10 before hand (it was like a bait and switch). and second i don't feel the bands were worth $10. $8 or even $6 would have been more like it.
its sad that promoters (or maybe it was the dayglos?) have to pull tricks like this. anyhow, now i know that cumsoc are not very good and that the Dayglos are still exactly the same as they have been for decades. - Sun, 24 Nov 2002 2:32pm
you're not the only one Was the DayGlo show at SOUNDGARDEN??? I went there on Sat. to check out Mad Bombers... The whole show ROCKED by the way. The posters I'd seen the week's before advertised the show at $8 bucks in advance, but it doesn't say where you can get advance tickets. I checked Lyle's and they weren't selling any.

When I show up to SoundGarden I'm told that I have to pay 10 bucks. The people at the door didn't seem to know where the advance tickets were sold and eventually they said I could have bought them at the bar. Yeah, maybe...

Being a small time promoter that ticks me off because you don't want to put misleading info on your poster just to make a few extra bucks. It catches up to you and leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. It's probably not the band's fault. Usually the promoter makes the poster and puts out advance tickets. In this case I believe Soundgarden put on/ promoted the Mad Bombers show,(or tried to make it look like they did) so its up to them to be straightforward or not. - Sun, 24 Nov 2002 4:30pm

Tickets were available at the bar beforehand..they were intended to be available at lyle's place as well but the ticket printers were delayed (that's why our Ashley MacIsaac and Headstones tix were late getting out too (they are out now btw)) It was always intended to be more at the door. It is expensive to put on shows! Of course if anyone had wanted to know what the deal was with tickets they could have emailed or called anytime, we would have been happy to clear things up. Sorry for the confusion, and if it happens again that the door staff is confused, talk to the manager- he is the one who has the tickets anyhow.
Cheers! - Sun, 24 Nov 2002 9:14pm
The Rook All you wankers wining about $2.00 extra at the door should shut the f... up and either enjoy the show or stay at home and drink a six-pack by yourselves you cheap bastards. That show rocked. - Sun, 24 Nov 2002 11:24pm
Anonymous Hear Hear!! I can' t believe how much people in this town bitch about covers for shows. Bands need to be paid, and what were you do with the extra $2? Buy a half a beer somewhere??? - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 12:47am
Anonymous yeah go MOOOOOOOO somewhere else...unless you want me to suck on yer udder - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 12:56am
feeling jewed it's not the $2 it's the misleading advertising about advance price and at the door price. i'm sure it was an honest mistake. i still say the show was worth no more than $6. but hey i paid my $10 admission at the door without complaint and spent a fair chunk of money buying booze so being cheap is not the issue.
in the future put advance and door prices in the ads to keep everything on the level.
that being said i think soundgarden is the best venue in town and will continue to see shows there.
all who disagree are wrong. - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 12:57am

not worth more than six bucks? o.k. let's do the math here. The Bloody Hells, the opening band, they probably didn't get paid too much but you gotta pay them for playing if at all possible. Let's not forget their booze as well huh. Cum Soc, for starters ferry fare there and back for seven people. Then there is their rider, booze, meals etc.etc. Then you have to pay the band for showing up and playing. Then you've got the Dayglos, you've gotta pay Jymbo's plane ticket from toronto for starters if you want a singer. Then you've got their rider, and let me tell you they drink a lot. Then you've got to pay the band, and they dont come cheap, and they shouldnt they've put in their time. Then you've got to pay the sound man, and once again he doesnt come cheap either, but you get what you pay for and we have the best. Then you have the bar staff to pay for, and the extra security, it is a dayglos show after all. Oh let's not forget postering, and advertising on the radio, and in the monday magazine. O.K. just for the hell of it let's throw in the cost of rent, and power, and booze, and cleaning supplies, and toilet paper, and glass ware, and mix, and straws, and ice, and limes and lemons, and every other little thing it takes to make a bar work, and then think about it again. People bitch about paying for shows without ever taking into account what all has to go into making it happen. This isn't like putting on a show in your basement their are bills here that have to be paid or the show will not happen. Six bucks? We would of been a few thousand away from even breaking even for that price. - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 1:32pm
Anonymous how many people were there though? 300 ?200? you will probably say 200 to be safe. 200 @$10 each that is $2000 off the door now if everyone spends $20 on booze thats $4000 at the bar and at a Dayglo's show thier would be at least half of that spending closer to $50 each (another $3000)plus the plane ticket thing would be paid for by the band as Vic isn't the only show they are playing their would at least be a price share between all the bars they would play and I have heard that most of the staff work for tips so a few bouncers(4)at least $200 . Yes you need to pay for all the bars costs but if you leave the cover at $8 people would spend it on beer anyway .My guess would be that the bands were all together under $2000 and everything else $500 -$700 so you do the math. - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 3:01pm
Bald Judging from some of the tightwads on this thread, you'd think 2 bucks is 200 or somthin'. Pony up the dough lads, no one likes to work for free. - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 3:18pm

Do you have any idea what a place like soundgarden costs every month? You do the math pardner. It isn't sitting on soemones' farm out in the sticks, it's right in the middle of downtown. There's more to costs than just paying bands and buying booze. I take it you don't pay rent at your folks house though..... - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 4:37pm
Anonymous holy juesus, what whiners, just about any show, i assume is going to be more at the door when advance tix are on sale, having grown up with the dayglos, i'd still pay whatever amount to support the band and have a great night. - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 8:32pm
Anonymous they are milking it those old farts.. bring on the young
i assume the door will be more when it says so on the ad.. when it doesnt i usually figure it will be the price it says - Mon, 25 Nov 2002 8:42pm
