You would think that in these days where the average 12 year old has already been to goat.cx, people wouldn't call themselves hardcore or gabber unless they knew what the fuck they were talking about. When you throw on a recording by DJ Gangrenous Fist Up Your Grandma's Cunt and out limps out barely camoflaged shitty up tempo house music you start to get a tad mistrusting about a new hardcore effort. So I find it particularly satisfying that this release from Invasion Wreckords is one time where the external fuck shit up trappings are actually warranted. This split with Hyperdriver churns out a steady spew of ripping gabber, manic software abuse and Molotov tossing digital hardcore and it couldn't be more welcome.

I should first mention that I have no idea why "industrial.org" is buried in the small print on the back of this recording (Ant-Zen is there too for what it is worth). I've got plenty of respect for the Invasion folks but other than this review I have had zero to do with this release. Disclaimer out of the way, "Teper' Revolucijai" reaches a place I have wished that D-Trash would spend more time in. Gabber beats verging on harsh noise industrial, digital stutter breaks that are as much burning up SID chip as active virus writer and enough angry shouting to make you worried that a violent domestic dispute has spilled over into your living quarters. DHR hasn't been about riot music for ages. . .well these folks are stepping up to fill the void like an aneurism powerful enough to blow a hole in your skull.

The last Hyperdriver I had heard was a bit of a let down, I wanted a brick to the head but instead got a friendly fake punch to the shoulder. Here on this CD however the reputation is reinforced with enough weaponry to blast a hole through a million Humvees. It's not gabber in the DOA or Delta 9 sense mind you, "I fucked your sister" quotes and TR909 kicks notably absent. Instead we have an almost powernoise at times speedbass attack which is both progressive and rocking and not at all forgiving (like a sped up Sonar being shot out of a software controlled gattling gun). It's as if Deeds Of Flesh's double kick decided to escape via the powerlines and then join up with 2400 baud modem and the off kilter and dangerous idling stage of a top fuel dragster. Yeah, it kicks.

Ambassador 21 have been pressing outwards on the bounds of digital hardcore for a while now and it's interesting how here much of the EBMish tangents have evaporated off leaving the red hot burn of gabber kicks and masticated metal riffs. They still show some unexpected influences (a good thing of course) but this is probably the most focused and targetted I have heard them yet. It's like the absolute best moments of ATR - tasty dual vocals that kick up the fight or fight reflex and an evil grin civil unrest vibe that makes it hard for me to keep sitting while I type this sucker out. The one aspect they do not reflect of ATR thankfully is the overly predictable and identifiable sample usage - when Ambassador 21 fire of a riff it's their's and their's alone. Absolute top notch digital hardcore that will reinstate your trust in the genre.

Listening to this recording I get the sense that an emergency surgeon has returned after asking me what's diseased and wrong with hardcore, lifting a bloody hand and pointing the way to a brightly lit surgical theatre. I momentarily look back and the panic in the doctor's eyes tells me that heat blowing in from what's ahead is just the beginning. Freaking great contemporary breakcore, out of control speedbass and digital hardcore that rams the needle into your neck and breaks the sucker off. - Mon, 22 Sep 2003 8:11pm
