This recording from harsh industrial / power electronics outfit Steel Hook Prosthesis is so ashen in nature that the metallic grey spattering coating the CDR's face could easily have been sourced by scraping it over and over with the very tracks themselves. Listening to each piece here is like picking up random bits of bone and charcoal out of a cremation kiln and haphazardly placing them in your mouth to see how they taste. You know its wrong but some sick fascination or buried death wish urges you to turn the coals a little more in case you find something recognizable, something to distract you from the aura of grief surrounding you. These four tracks carry a lot more weight than one would expect could be contained in a 3" CDR let me tell you.

"Cold Embrace Of An Iron Lung" breaks no new visual ground as far as packaging goes what with the Cold Meat Industry aesthetics and all but considering that is what most of us into this kind of affair prefer, I can hardly complain (it's not like most of my t-shirts aren't black). I was a bit nervous that the silver flakes would result in some arcing pyrotechnics in my PC but so far only the smoke and fire produced has been by the speaker cones and it certainly looks the part enough to impress your shallower image conscious black metal friends.

The disc offers up 4 tracks total though the last one is a short burst really, the others being at the core of the storm front. Death industrial pretty much sums up the approach but there is a subtlety here, a refinement of technique which pulls in aspects of dark ambient almost - setting being as important here as structure. Brutal is a given but instead of drooling like a blood spattered maniac about to hit you with a hammer, the tracks have a steady downward force to them that is more like an oppressive unseen plane than a single sharp point of conflict. "Decayed Angel Of Mercy" for example creeps like a massive flood tide, steadily surrounding the listener until they are fully submerged in a life choking atmosphere of morbidity and despair. "Iron Recluse" has the same kind of expanse and inescapability but the rush of black water has been replaced with the ozone reek of terrestrial static discharge and storm vortex. The pitch shifted vocal attacks just increase the damage rating of the hurricane until every landmark is completely fucking obliterated (my favourite track by far).

If there was a sign on my back saying "kick me", this would be the boot to do it with. Steel Hook Prostheses have their schtick down like a congenital syndrome. I can be a pretentious bastard at the best of times but blasting this CDR through my Behringer Truths just digs up something deep from my subconscious, something crazy and on fire. This music makes you long for a storm, embrace the cold, turn out the lights. Beautiful and pure industrial music and absolutely recommended.
