I honestly can't stand female metal vocalists in metal. Except for the chick from Sinister. Angela Glossow, though, gets on my nerves, when i hear her do vocals it reminds me of Kittie, which i can't stand. - Tue, 16 Sep 2003 3:20pm

There are some genre's of music that just need a harsh growl, and women (no offense) cannot cut it most of the time. Also in punk... ya need that kinda nasly snarl... I have never heard a girl do that well... But IMO, in most softer genres (i.e. Folk, jazz, pop, etc.) are much better than most guys. - Tue, 16 Sep 2003 5:02pm

most of my favourite bands/ artist have fairly misogynistic lyrics. and i don't take offence to any of them. I guess its about personal taste. What one person finds offensive another may find humourous and entertaining. - Wed, 17 Sep 2003 1:26pm

I love female vocals. If anything I am MORE inclined to like music with female vocals than male. As for the women not being able to growl, who cares. Look at L7, Bikini Kill, X-ray-spex, Blatz, Tribe8 all with female vocals and all very aggressive punk. I'm not a fan of stuff like Kittie and Drain STH, but that is because they suck, not because they are women. Keep in mind I also like bands which have melodic more ethereal female vocals like Mazzy Star, Faith and Disease, Love Spirals Downward, and Miranda Sex Garden. My question is why is it that only the wimpy female artists get airplay? - Thu, 18 Sep 2003 3:31am

Im guessing lyrics. If you like or dislike female vocals doesnt make you sexist. - Thu, 18 Sep 2003 1:12pm

yea some lyrics are sexist but... so what?
some lyrics are racist
some lyrics are fanatic
some lyrics are just plain stupid but i'm not going to make it my task to tell these people they shouldn't be aloud to play their music. i just won't listen. - Thu, 18 Sep 2003 2:15pm

What about the new singer for Arch Enemy?

Or the Great Kat who not only screams better than most but who is also #10 of the top 10 worlds fastest shredders on guitar. http://www.greatkat.com/

I would prefer a mixed gender group for metal. The egos of men are a pain to deal with when all I want to do is let go and play. - Thu, 2 Oct 2003 2:57am

Sexism????

Jesus christ.

Just because virtually every monumental band out there is all guys doesn't mean sexism.

I think a better post topic would be"Someone put a lighter under the asses of female musicians" - Thu, 2 Oct 2003 1:05pm

Uuugh, point was, if girls aren't making as much music as guys that doesn't relate to sexism.

It's not the men's fault that women don't seem to try as hard to become musicians in bands and perfer to try and become the next britney spears instead...

You can't blame that on male sexisim, in a band if you aren't good enough its "NEXT" period, male or female.

Proof of this is Arch Enemy for example, the chick came up, blew them away and they diddn't say next because she was that good... If you want to get as ignorant as to say it's sexist because guys obviously have been busting it harder to get in that 5 peice band or whatever then on the same token I think it's sexist that all the models are women, wheres all the men??

See how stupid that sounds???

The men are there *probably 1/2 gay ahha* but fact is, how meny men do you know who want beauty etc. etc.
well sorry but the same goes for women and hard music. - Thu, 2 Oct 2003 2:04pm

X-Ray Specs! Rezillo's, The Avengers...LOADS of wickedly heavy rock with chick vox. Just a different spin I'd say. I have heard women vocalists that could make your hair stand on end with their freakish intensity...put the fear o' god into ya they will. Yipe. - Sat, 4 Oct 2003 9:39am
