just wondering what people think... - Mon, 11 Aug 2003 2:59pm

Well, let's start with the praise. This is a world class package and production, arguably the best SOUNDING CD out of this town all year. And it does rock out with some cool guitar sounds. But I find the songs all a bit too long; even the radio edit of "Idol" only knocks about 30 seconds off of a song that's over 4 minutes long. And the edit itself (at about 2:38) is atrocious, completely obvious and, in my humble opinion, rather unnecessary. Sometimes the vocals slip below the mix making the words unintelligable, the only (minor) quibble I have with the sound. The bonus track is actually a solo Tara song and seems very out of place here, but, hey, it's a bonus song. The punk rocker in me wishes there was a song or two that was faster and/or shorter, and the one true pop song on the disc ("Barby") makes me wish there were more hooks. Nonetheless, a real good disc by a band that could find themselves very popular before they know what hit them. And let's hear it for a band that had the good sense not to put a gigantic MAPL on the cover. Chicks with guitars is not exactly a new idea (Fanny was doing it in the early '70's) and this EP doesn't quite have what it takes material wise to raise them to the top of the genre just yet but it's a terrific start. Now about that name... - Mon, 11 Aug 2003 3:50pm

I think they did a great job on there new stuff. And you're right, "Zippgunn", chicks with guitars isn't exactly a new idea, of course, neither is guys with guitars (Les Paul was doing it in the 50's). My point is that the fact that they're women (except the drummer) really should be a moot point. In any case, the production on the CD is awesome. I went to the CD release party at Steamer's and they were really tight. - Wed, 13 Aug 2003 1:48am

Well of course it should be a moot point but it isn't, after all this is the music biz and for every band that sports three cute girls across their frontline there's about 40 million that have three guys there. If Big Muff were all fat and ugly it would also make a big difference although everyone in the biz would rather chew their own arms off rather than admit it. But think about it; the list of 300 lb. rock divas isn't very long... - Wed, 13 Aug 2003 11:44pm

I can't think of many 300lb. guys succeeding in the business either. - Thu, 14 Aug 2003 11:32am

I got a copy the other day & I have to say there are some cool changes & some well done vocals.

I don't think Tara's song is "out of place" that is pretty much the right place for it if you asked me.

The thing I like the best is the ROCKLOCK drawings it's like in the old days when a band would write a song and "invent" a dance to go with it. Why not a cool new hand shake... I mean ROCKLOCK. It's good to see bands working hard.

PS
Hey Zip,
There are 4 girls in BIGMUFF don't you think they're all cute? - Fri, 15 Aug 2003 2:17pm

Meat Loaf.

At any rate, I think the CD sounds fantastic. It's got great sounds, it's super heavy and thick in the right places. Nothing sounds out of place to me. Definitely one of the better recorded albums to come out of Victoria.

And the secret song at the end absolutely kills me.

Nice work, Muff and Adam!

For some reason it's easier to become a rock god at 300 lbs. if you're a black male (not for nothing was B. White called the "genius"). I don't know if Aretha has ever tipped the scales at 300 or not, but she can SING. And the girls from Heart didn't start out as whales, I don't think. - Wed, 20 Aug 2003 1:17pm

Vendors do rule, but, untill they have a CD out, I will say no more on this part of the site. I think that the whole CD REALLY kicks ass (although I think the only picture of them in the booklet is a crappy picture). Very nice work. They are a GREAT band, who I hope will hit it big. The whole "girl-pop-punk-rock" thing seems to be going pretty good with shitty whore's lillix leading the way, and Big Muff could kick their ass anyday. I think they can make it big, and I hope they do.
