I was reading the TC today and i was shocked to hear that the knuckleheads will have to go like 18-12-4 in their last 34 games to make the playoffs. The Canucks have lost 6 straight and are now gonna have to start playing with some urgency. Bottom line is if they dont pick up these next two home games I think their playoff hopes are crushed! Sundin has had 7 games and 9 full practices. He is -3 and has 3 points 2 goals and 1 assist. Sorry but that is not gonna get it done! What do you people think are they gonna make it to the big show? - Wed, 28 Jan 2009 10:24am

We're going to be seeing if this team gives any sort of a fuck in the next week. If they don't, expect Mike Gillis to make a statement with some action. I believe his mantra is "It is not acceptable to miss the playoffs."
Hope he sticks to that one.
Honestly, I don't think they have it in them. - Wed, 28 Jan 2009 12:12pm

Tonight's game is the first time since God knows when that the Canucks are icing their full roster.
They are an awesome team. Baring further injuries, they will not only make the play-offs, but crush their way in.

The Salmon Kings fucking RULE this season. Twenty bucks gets you in. Seriously. If you are a hockey fan , you should go to a game. - Wed, 28 Jan 2009 3:15pm

I have to agree with trev. and not only is it JUST finished the all star break... Anything can happen.

and as for the Kings... I love going to the games, though I've only made 2 games this year :S Lots of fun, for minimal price! And the quality of play is pretty dam close(in terms of pace) to pro-league. - Wed, 28 Jan 2009 4:11pm

They just don't have it like they did at the beginning of the year... Don't rely on sundin...rely on the sedins, burrows, bernier and kesler. that's all i have to say..

as far as luongo goes..tough break with the injury. You can't really blame the coach like everyone i talk to is...he's a good coach..

and p.s. the last game vs sanjose waas bullshit. That penalty at the end of the game on d.sedin was a pile of crap. - Wed, 28 Jan 2009 10:43pm

Hire Tortorella

if that doesnt get the players playing properly again..

trade the twins for a real power forward/quarterback/clutch player

and yes I realize D Sedin is considred a clutch player and often is in the top 10 league for game winning goals but he is too soft, we need POWER.

and get rid of Raymond, he is more useless than Pyatt who actually looks like he is trying these days. - Thu, 29 Jan 2009 10:53am

and the mathmetitions are already counting out the 'nucks. Have a little faith; you guys are moodier than a leafs fan.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm?season=20082009&type=CON

theres 4 teams in the western conference TIED FOR the last spot. And only 2 pts back from 5/6. The 'nucks probably wont be division champs, but they WILL make the playoffs. AAAAAnd Anehiem has 4 games in hand on everyone else. The nucks would have to lose more than 50% of the next 35+ games to NOT make the play offs and hope that everyone else around them wins.
Its not that hard to figure out ;) - Thu, 29 Jan 2009 10:53am Edited: Thu, 29 Jan 2009 10:54am

... what, you mean lose EVERY single game till the post season?
If you call yourself a fan, burn your jersey or give it to someone that cares. Teams go on losing streaks; look at ottawa... stanley cup finalists yet are struggling this season. SHIT HAPPENS.
At least I have faith in the fact that a PRO HOCKEY team can turn around from a 7 game losing skid. And really, what does 1 more home game loss mean in the grand scheme of 30 plus games left in the 82 game schedule? (stop watching landsberg and develop your own opinion).
And once they do, break the skid, if I see you posting about how good they are... you are one of the (f)lamest fans I've ever known.

JDL, you sound like those people that say "There's lots of time for them to come back." when there is 6 minutes left and they're down by a goal or two.
For most teams, that would be plenty of time. But this group of overpaid slackers don't try their hardest until the last 45 seconds of these type of games.
This is indicative of their play in general lately. Disrespectful to their fans. Laziness. No desire to win.
Forget "must win the next game". They have had their chances. Injury or not. They can't rely on Luongo to carry their corpses through the whole season and playoffs. Some effort and character are needed.
Coach axed today.
Some "superstars" traded for guys who will put in a 60 minute effort.
That would help immensely. - Thu, 29 Jan 2009 1:24pm

So how is being a fan for half a season and then shitting on them for losing 7 straight games, treating them like their the Islanders any better?
Of course shit's going to happen in the locker room, practice etc... Take Edmonton for example, they got a beating of a life-time the other night; I would hope, for fans of the team, that this sparked an intrest or a slight incling of motivation to WIN. As do I treat the 'nucks current situation; as bad as it is, thru injury and all else, there's still half a season left and with the race being pretty fucking tight... anything can happen.
Just have a little faith, never stop believing in your team... otherwise, dont call yourself a fan. - Thu, 29 Jan 2009 3:15pm

I guess I'm strange because I think the Canucks need to earn my support. They have let their fans down since their inception. There were two close years, and those were great to watch.
I will always be a fan of this team and really want them to succeed. Unfortunately, they don't seem to want to succeed. Therein lies the problem.
Change is needed now. What will make them better between now and Saturday? Not whatever they are doing, that's for sure. - Thu, 29 Jan 2009 5:56pm

I've been a fan of the Canucks all of my hockey loving life. On top of it, I'm a fan of hockey in general. I enjoy watching all teams play (except for the south/southeast teams, it's just never seemed right to have franchaises in some of those states)anyways, the actual thought of rooting for another team more than Vancouver has never even been part of my thought process. I've been a loyal fan and supporter for just over twenty years. Over those years, I've seen it all. Except a Stanley cup of course.
My point being...um.....nothing really.
Go Canucks.

If AV isn't fired tomorrow, forget anything else good happening for the rest of this season.
Cheering for another team sounds like a fraudulent way to feel good about the team you cheer for.
Born and raised in BC, the Canucks are my team for better or worse. Too bad it's mostly worse.

Oooo. They tied it up.
That is a miracle.
I suppose it not too late to start trying to win, eh?
*edit* Spoke too soon. Canucks get 20 scoring chances and the best they get is a post, then the Wild take the puck down to the Canuck end and score immediately.
This is why things need to be violently shaken.

Other than a shaky first ten minutes, the Canucks were awesome tonight.
They just came across a hot goalie trying to make up for getting pulled last game. That was a bullshit penalty in overtime.
42 shots on goal.
Kesler is a heart and soul player. I made a good choice when I picked my number 17 jersey.

I don't think that missing the net and shooting the puck into Backstrom's logo meet the criteria for tricking everyone into thinking the Canucks will be fine.
