I'm all for people being themselves so if having long hair and a beard is you then don't change it. Guys that are uncomfortable in their own skin is a huge turn off. I don't know you but I'd suggest just being yourself and getting out to as many things you find interesting. Whether that is metal shows, libraries, sitting under bridges, or drinking tea at the beach. You'll meet girls that have the same interests and you'll be happier in your element. That helps. Poor spelling is a turn off if you are using online as a way to meet the ladies. Everything online should be clean, and concise. Being single and 38 can't be easy. I have found that POF works mainly for those who don't need it such as married people who want to step out on their spouses or playas. Because it is free, there is no harm in "seeing what's out there" or "fishing". There is no commitment on a free dating site. POF is like the meat market dance club of internet dating sites. Your profile info doesn't matter no matter how good it is, only the pics. For example, a friend of mine that happens to be an early thirties blonde bombshell recently put herself on POF with about 2 sentences in her profile and a couple of good photos. She is already on 130 member's "favourites" list. You will never convince me it's because of what she wrote about herself in her profile... At least at the pay sites you will find women that genuinely want to find a lasting relationship and not some someone who is just playing around.
