some girl Christmas is 6 months away and I can't wait. I realize that I should go see help for this, and my boyfriend continually makes fun of me for getting so excited. My problem is that I can never find good CDs/songs. Ummm, so there's James Brown, Boney M and shit, but what about punk covers? (Red Aunts do a good "Little Drummer Bitch" song on a Lookout records compilation, but that's all I know of). Any suggestions? Doesn't any bands here get festive?

...okay, I have now set myself to get slagged. Go ahead. I can take it. - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 11:43am
somedude scum element had some pretty good christmas tunes - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 12:06pm
Anonymous Punk Christmas? Isn't that some kind of an oxymoron? - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 12:39pm

Holy Shit! I cant believe no one has mentioned THE VANDALS! Christmas with the vandals is a kickass CD, the perfect punk rock christmas! With such songs as "Christmas For My Penis" "My First Christmas As A Woman" and "Grandpa's Last Christmas" Its sure to win the hearts of loved ones on the joyous occasion of Jesus' Birth (Go consumerism!) Also, they do a ripping cover of Tchaikovskies "Dance of the sugarplum faeries" - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 12:59pm
Anonymous I always liked wierd als christmas album
ICP's Santa claus is a fat bitch song is pretty good too - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 2:02pm
some girl... Yes, I'm sure that this post sounds like an oxymoron, but keep in mind that the Sex Pistols and the Ramones have both done Christmas covers... so I guess it really isn't a contradiction! (the things you learn on LiveVic). - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 2:10pm
Anonymous Alvin the Chipmunk was the original proto-punk! - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 2:44pm
pooetry Mojo Nixon has some xmas tunes as well. - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 3:43pm
Adrenaline Animal No Use For A Name does a really good cover of the Pogues song "Fairytale of New York", come to think of it the original is pretty damn good too.

It was Christmas eve babe, In the drunk tank
An old man said to me "we won't see another one"
And then he sang a song, a rare old mountain tune
I turned my face away, and dreamed about you

etc etc etc - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 4:35pm
Gman Punk Christmas Album.

Weird.

Christmas is just about the least punk thing I can possibly think of.

Except maybe cactii: they are not punk.

MD Forget punk covers...Run DMC's "Christmas in Hollis" is the shiznit. The line, "Mom's in the kitchen cooking collard greens" gets me every time.... - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 5:36pm
Ty Stranglehold The Yobs were the first punk band to do a X-Mas record. The Vandals covered one of their tracks on their record. When I used to host Area Of Refuge we would always have our X-Mas punk show. It wasn't hard to fill up a two hour slot with punk X-Mas tunes. - Mon, 9 Jun 2003 7:45pm

I'm a huge fan of Christmas music and have a pretty decent collection of stuff.

A good, solid rocking Christmas release is the "Sonics/Galaxies/Wailers" Garage Rock Christmas album called "Merry Christmas".

Not punk, perhaps, but the very seeds of the movement captured, seething in the name of Christmas...

enjoy - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 10:42am
monkeypox!! There's a compilation called 'It's a Punk Rock Christmas'...It's got FEAR, Sloppy Seconds, Ramones, Pansy Division, the Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, and tons more. I used to have it on vinyl but it disappeared. Still have all the best songs on tape though. Sorry, I can't remember what label put it out. - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 11:04am
CanThinkForMyselfThanks Anything that supports Christmas is fucking stupid, Christians need to take their retarded belief structure and shove it. This is the 21 century, it's time for humanity to realise that faith and the idea of an afterlife are just crutches for the weak of mind and will to hobble through their depressing lives on. - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 11:17am
Anonymous Oh Oh, Santa's not going to like you! Get ready for a lump of coal in your stocking. - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 12:32pm
Anonymous Keep your bleak attitudes to yourself. If you think that you are just going to die and that's it, you must be a very happy person! - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 1:04pm
Anonymous You speak of Christianity as if it's a bad thing to have as a crutch: why? It doesn't give you liver disease, it doesn't produce crack babies, it doesn't allow people to be abusive jerks... the list goes on. Lets all act like adults please. - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 2:22pm
some girl... I don't want a debate, I want Christmas songs please! - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 2:32pm
anonymr. why would you say the lack of an afterlife is a bleak outlook? i can live a completely happy and fulfilling life while accepting that when it ends, that's it. if i was to believe in an afterlife just because it feels better that way, would i really be better off? - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 2:56pm

Narcotics Lover Hey Some Girl, why are you worrying about Christmas in June. How anal is that .... and speaking of which... - Wed, 11 Jun 2003 10:54pm
some girl... Hey Lover: I'm not worring about Christmas I'm actually all pumped up for it. 6 MORE MONTHS!!! I can't wait!!! I don't stress out at Christmas either: I rarely buy presents- I make them. If you've ever watched "Wild at Heart" I guess you could say I'm kidda psycho like Lula's cousin.

Why were you in the hospital Isobellia? I hope you're all better! I actually didn't go to the Hoosegow show due to lack of funds. I'm spontaniously going on a mini vacation tomorrow so I have to save all my money. Are you going to the weapons inspector's leacture at UVic? (I still have to find out the day, but it's at the end of the month). May be I'll see ya there? - Thu, 12 Jun 2003 10:55am
The Ref Hey Iso, what hospital were you in? I was in for two weeks. Just go out last Tuesday. Hope you're feeling better? - Thu, 12 Jun 2003 11:34am
The Ref You sound like my mom, she starts looking forward to Xmas on Boxing day!!! More power to ya! If it makes you happy who cares! Start with your present making, put on some Nat King Cole xmas carols and have a good time!!!

Oh and MERRY CHRISTMAAAASSSS! LOL! - Thu, 12 Jun 2003 2:13pm
