Almost all bands people like ( including metal and punk ) appear at similar events and use them for their benefit. | Mr. Monkey Pants | New Music West is going to be a very important event this year. Because Of SARS,North by Northeast in Toronto was pretty much called off. Therefor all the label reps that would normally go to that will instead be coming to NMW. To the guy who posted that there will be a bunch of blood sucking people who are trying to use bands. You are an idiot! There are a ton of seminars on how to manage your band, contracts, touring, laws, copywrites, how to get signed, indie labels etc. Those are put on by musicians to help musicians. I is a great opportunity to meet other bands, make contacts, showcase and have a good time. I'm not a huge NMW whore but it's about the only time of year when local businesses actually support the music scene. Good luck supporting yourself through music with that attitude. There are a few bad fish but there are many other people that want to rebuild the scene and really love music. Not every one is out to get you. I know this because my band has had a huge amount of help along the way. People did it for free becasue they liked our music not becasue they wanted $.
