Is there a cell phone company that doesn't suck?

I tried BELL, that was the worst mistake of my life. Not only did the coverage suck, but the service was the WORST ever.

I tried ROGER's but the only time i could get decent service was when I called the customer line, all the kiosk's and stores seem to not give a rats ass.

I'm with FIDO now and you know what? BEFORE they got bought out by ROGER's, they were the best company i have ever paid. You felt like you were gettting a real service. Now a days though, the web site is all messed up, i can't pay bills or find out my account info online.

How's TELUS?
Is there anyone else? - Fri, 4 Jul 2008 12:41am

I've been with Telus Mobility for 7 years and have never had a problem. Each time I call them they go over my bill and see if they can save me more money according to my usage. My costs have gone down over the years. I'm not too fond of giant companies but Telus has been good for me. - Fri, 4 Jul 2008 8:23am

I was with Rogers many years ago and they screwed me around with their Amigo phone. Switched to Telus 11 or 12 years ago and have never had problems. Also, I was paying a slighter higher plan rate but after several months on not using those minutes, Telus dropped me down to a lower plan without me having to phone them. I thought that was cool. Only issue I have is their downloads and content on their web browser is a little lame. - Fri, 4 Jul 2008 8:34am

I have a Fido plan.. Unlimited incoming calls (which rules for business) unlimited eve's and weekends, unlimited Fido to Rogers or Fido to Fido calls. for about $46 mnth incl all service charges + call display. its only 100 outgoing per month, but free kicks in at 7pm and I rarely use 100 during the days as Im usually answering the damn thing. (which is free..) seem to be able to see my accountinfo on the website no problemo.. but you have to call or go to Fido to pay now. Or direct deposit from bank account. - Fri, 4 Jul 2008 12:41pm

The one thing about Rogers is that I find their billing super confusing. Plus calling them is annoying, having that voice asking you what you want and having to talk to a machine, always misinterprets what I say.

I pay approx $60 per month for:
Unlimited On Device Mobile Browsing
2,500 text messages
1,000 sent picture/video messages
Call Display, Name Display, Enhanced
Voice Mail
50 local video calling minutes
unlimited eves and weekends
100 weekday minutes - Fri, 4 Jul 2008 2:16pm

Weird that service is the most important thing to you. What sort of service do you need? What problems are you having that force you to contantly need service? I use Rogers and, on the rare occasions when I have a problem or question, I just dial the customer service number. I used to work at a call center so I know that it's a gamble as to whether or not the person who responds will be knowledgable. If not, you can always try again. I chose Rogers because they support a phone I wanted. It can run a NES emulator. Whatevs! - Fri, 4 Jul 2008 4:23pm

Agreed with Tyler... someone mentioned having service 11 to 12 years ago... cell reception was pretty crap back then, the times have sure changed. Even compared to 5 years ago, service is so much better. - Fri, 4 Jul 2008 5:11pm

Rogers is the way to go.

Yeah some of the kiosks are bad, If you want the best service go to The Source By Circut City. They get big bucks in commission for anything cell related so they are allways happy to help. That, and Bell and Telus are becoming obsolete because they are still on the CDMA System.

About the service....
It's the fact that Fido offers a web service and they push it HARD in everything they print and say yet it doesn't work half the time.
I like things wireless. yes I can pay through my bank, but if I can't find out how much a owe, how can I pay?
for about $75/month (after tax) I get:

100 minutes
unlimited incoming after 7
free evening and weekends
voice mail / call display
web browsing on my phone
1000 video msgs
2500 txt msgs

i like the flexibility of SIM cards and GSM's.
But my contract ends in a few months and am looking at a new provider - Sun, 6 Jul 2008 5:22pm

See, I look at that plan there and I think.. nope.. mine is better for half the cost, via Fido, which hasnt let me down in the year Ive had it.. UNLIMITED INCOMING saves me big $$$. Plus they gave me a free Razr V3.

Granted, I had an early era Fido pay n talk and I suffered badly, but since they share Rogers towers now.. not a single problem ever.

Not sure why you cant check your bill online, I check mine all the time. And there's a kiosk in mostof the malls to pay, or across from Lyles downtown. - Mon, 7 Jul 2008 10:38am Edited: Mon, 7 Jul 2008 10:39am

I've had the same cell number since 94.
First it was Cantell, then something else, now it's Rogers AT&T. No complaints. However, I don't deal with kiosks or mall outlets. I only deal directly with the company over the phone, and I pay my bill online. - Tue, 8 Jul 2008 1:45am

If you didn't like Bell coverage avoid Telus, Bell is often piggy=backing on Telus services in areas where they don't have their own. It is true that Telus Mobility have much better service than their land-line business, I find the coverage to suck-ass.

No matter what way you slice it, GSM/GPRS (later 3G) is the only network worth being on. As someone already mentioned the SIM situation is a million times more flexible and if you travel anywhere else in the world, rogers is the only way to go. - Tue, 8 Jul 2008 12:28pm

The reason you got shit service from Rogers Kiosks is because those are not owned by rogers.

I work for Rogers now , go to either Hillside Mall, Bay Center(my store) or Mayfair. Those 3 are official rogers stores, we get wages so we aren't douchebags forcing sales. Everywhere else is owned by franchises, and I think most people would rather deal with those of us who actually get our paycheques from Rogers.

Matteus, you can get a better deal @ Rogers. for the same price or less you can get 150-200 minutes a month + unlim nights and weekend and unlimited incoming at all times, 2,500 txt 1,000 video and unlimited on device browsing (using a normal phone)

A few notes, for people looking at telus, They do not cap their cancellation fee, which means you can pay over 600 for a cancellation, rogers, fido and bell all cap it at 400. Also telus charges you to change down in plans! - Tue, 8 Jul 2008 2:02pm

My current plan on rogers is:
150 anytime minutes
1500 evening/weekend minutes (9pm-7am for evenings)
unlimited (rogers mobile) network calling - this I use a ton since my best friends are all on rogers and tend to also have this or unlimited incoming
unlimited mobile WAP browsing
(no call display or voice mail)

Technically I'm on the older $25 Mega Time plan with the $7 addition of unlimited browsing and the monthly connection fee of like $7. I think I pay about $44 after tax on average, usually including a couple pay-per-use text messages that I end up sending. I almost went down to the $20 Mega Time plan because I don't really use that many anytime minutes, but then I discovered that the plans all changed and the one I wanted wasn't available anymore. No big deal. I love the flexibility of a GSM/GPRS network and I really love my phone (the Nokia 6682) - there's so much open source development and so many free games online for it.

I agree about kiosks being useless. I don't think they're too well trained in the intricacies of how the Rogers network works and, as a result, they're full of BS. Probably best to deal with a customer service rep on the phone and, if that doesn't work, call back until you find one that's helpful.

That's ridiculous about the other companies charging for incoming texts. I hope Rogers never does that. - Wed, 9 Jul 2008 6:02am
