That's a pretty gigantic genre request but since this discussion seems to be limited to tough-guy stuff I'll throw Breakdown and Bulldoze in the hat. Cro-Mags too, with the disclaimer that their politics were mildly retarded, then somewhat crazy (though less violent) once they went Krishna.
Oh plus Icepick, Crown of Thornz, Skarhead, Everybody Gets Hurt...I mean if you're going to go for the ridiculously "I'm a stomp yo ass for lookin at my crew" type stuff, go all the way. - Tue, 1 Apr 2008 5:58pm Edited: Tue, 1 Apr 2008 6:00pm

for the record, almost all of the bands listed in this thread aren't namedropped filler bands; most are pretty well known in the world of the "ultra heavy" style of hardcore. if you look into most of what's been mentioned, you're going to be occupied for a long time.

look out for grave maker playing here, that show is going to be heavy as hell.

I'm trying to think of others you might be into.

Throwdown, Unearth, Since The Flood, Liferuiner, maybe Bane?, Fight Like Hell, and hmmmm XDEATHSTARX

also a band that just broke up, Final Verdict (local, whoa!) - Thu, 3 Apr 2008 3:27am Edited: Thu, 3 Apr 2008 3:34am

A Crow's Glory - Who are playing iwth Grave Maker on may 16th

Guns Up!
Hollow Ground
Path of Resistance
Pulling TEETH

"listen to One Life Crew"

NO. BAD BRYAN. BAAAD.

back ringworm, integrity, and about 75% of the bands mentioned. i hate terror, but DBD can fuckin' rip when they do their shit right. snapcase is one of the bands that got me into hardcore, and progression... is THE best album they did. ALSO (and apologies if these bands already got mentioned):

-shattered realm
-day of mourning
-coalesce
-ramallah
-blood for blood
have to disagree with criss, nothing in vain was MPB best album ever, but that's because it sounds like...
-INDECISION. best mid nineties vegan straightedge band. even if your not into the politics, this band destroyed.
-set foot (vancouver band.)
-trial

also, of course, look to the roots. my favorite old school hardcore has to be SSD and Minor Threat. but i'm unimaginative like that.

PS also, as others have mentioned, this is just the heavy shit i like. there's a LOT of hardcore out there, and if you wanna check out the thrashier shit or the melodic stuff, lemme know. i can give you some great bands there, too. - Fri, 4 Apr 2008 7:59pm Edited: Fri, 4 Apr 2008 8:00pm

haha. brian, i heard the full story. apparently the dudes in SR thought it would be really funny to draw swazi's on joe hardcore's face while he slept. then they got pulled over, and the cops see him asleep in the back with swastikas ALL OVER HIM. add in the fact of who they were, and it was a quick escort to the border, please don't come back. good band, kiiiiiiinda scummy dudes.

and mikey, if you wanna check out other kinds of hardcore, try outbreak, ceremony, have heart, sojourner, vanguard, where eagles dare (broken up, but they just re-upped their myspace for a benefit one off they're doing), ghostlimb, doomriders, the helm, hit the bricks (from vancouver), the hope conspiracy, and modern life is war. that's off the top of my head, but that's a good run down of some of my favorites. i'll try and make a more comprehensive post. i'm not sure if you'll dig that stuff, since you said you seem to be into the more heavy, terror like stuff, but give it a shot. you never know what might appeal to ya. - Sat, 5 Apr 2008 4:35pm

But even liking them you must surely acknowledge them as a pretty funny band. When I looked at the notes for my Spazz / 25 Ta Life split 7'' and read the words "thanks to my niggaz in Spazz" I was not quite sure what to think. Kind of like the aforementioned One Life Crew, who I admittedly have never even heard... seriously bryan, don't. the "joke" of OLC gets old, incredibly fast. if i remember right, chubby fresh was in that band, too, and unless it's integrity, i refuse to support him in anyway. best part of integrity getting gang beat in portland was chubby getting smacked in the head multiple times with his own high hat. the fat, homophobic, racist fuck.

if you listen to OLC you will lose any respect for hardcore you may have once had.

25 ta life, though, while terrible, are full of decent dudes. Rick Ta Life is a scumbag, but i've chatted with the guitar player a few times, and he's super legit. - Tue, 8 Apr 2008 10:12am

I think a lot of us were trying to focus on the heavier style of hardcore. but now a whole new can of worms has been open! sweet. here are some I like that aren't ultra heavy, falling into other spectrums (thrashy, youthcrew, melodic, crusty, pop punky, or whatever):

life long tragedy, comeback kid, vile style, sinking ships, champion, gorilla biscuits, youth of today, chain of strength, floorpunch, the first step, carry on, modern life is war, shook ones, the wrath, betrayed, have heart, verse, down to nothing, guns up!, go it alone, internal affairs, ten yard fight, miles away, set it straight, final fight, bracewar, good clean fun, mental, stay gold, shipwreck, the geeks, project x, righteous jams, kids like us, ceremony, tragedy

oh man, total new ballpark

and hey, while we're at it, how about some legitimate emo/screamo band namedropping? okay! hey, it sort of grew out of hardcore, and a lot of people still refer to this stuff as hardcore to distinguish it from afi and hawthorne heights and such.

a day in black and white, amanda woodward, ampere, apoplexy twist orchestra, circle takes the square, city of caterpillar, daitro, envy, et tu brute, fiction like non-fiction, funeral diner, hassan i sabbah, honeywell, i hate myself, i have dreams, indian summer, i would set myself on fire for you, jerome's dream, joshua fit for battle, khayembii communique, kodan armada, la quiete, loma prieta, love like... electrocution, majority rule, mara'akate, off minor, oh! you skeleton, orchid, pg.99, portraits of past, raein, rats into robots, reversal of man, rites of spring, saetia, shikari, sinaloa, song of zarathrustra, spirit of versailles, swing kids, this ship will sink, twelve hour turn, usurp synapse, yaphet kotto - Sat, 12 Apr 2008 11:36am
