Anonymous Umm I guess the thought of a peacefull world was too much to ask for, is it just me or has the world gone from 1/2 friendly to fucking crazy since Bush took the helm? - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 9:40pm
unattainable I dunno, my roommates & neighbours are pretty cool. And the next time I hit the bar I'll see a bunch of other punks as shellshocked and into having a good time as I am.
Half full. whats the other choice? insert frowny face. - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 9:56pm
Putting things in perspective Things may seem very bleak for some of you, but, if truth be told... these sort of horrible situations have come and gone - time and time again - throughout our recent history.
It's just that you're old enough now to realize the reality of it all and its got you feeling very nervous and helpless.

Politics aside, the Gulf War at the beginning of the 1990's was a somewhat similar situation to what we are facing now. Think back to those days - how old were you then? Did you even really know much about it?
I think the 911 attacks have everyone totally stressed out (including Bush) and that is why we all feel so threatened and vunerable right now.

I remember way back when JFK was assasinated. I was in Grade 10 and we were all absolutley terrified. Even the teachers were panicing and we were all quickly sent home from school. I never made it home so fast, glancing up at the sky to look for mushroom clouds all the way home (honestly!). We were positive it must have been the Russians that killed JFK (remember this was in the midst of the Cold War - the "duck & cover" days). We all thought it was going to be the beginning of World War 3 and the end of the world! I was scared to death.
I was a bit too young to understand the Cuban Bay of Pigs situation, therefore I was not afraid of it. But, after learning about it when I was older, I could see it was an incredibly more tense situation than the JFK assasination.

Yes... there will probably be a war if Bush calls the shots(!!??) - but it won't be so very different from what we have already faced in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sadly, many innocent people will die again and areas of the country decimated - that's the sickening reality and horror of war.

Whether it's right or not is another matter totally.

We can't control Bush or Saddam - all we can do is try to make a difference in our own little corner of the world... and hope it spreads to others. Hopefully we can all start to treat one another a little better. Let's try to get rid of some of the anger, disrespect, racism, discrimination and intolerance that I often see reflected in some of the postings on this site. It begins with you - and ends with you.

unattainable And let that be a lesson to you kids, don't EVER talk about the warmer, gentler side of life or you'll be called GAY or a HIPPY. Better to lock it all inside and kick the shit out of each other.
its the way the world works, obviously! - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 11:55am
Putting things in perspective Unattainable:
Your comments are counter-productive - even though you are trying to be sarcastic - I hope!

That "gentler side" you talk of is in every one of us, if we take time to bring it to the surface. It's a real asset in a complete, mature person. It isn't being gay or being a hippie - although there is absolutely nothing wrong with being either!
Why are so many people so afraid to show that gentle side of themselves?
Perhaps because it's easier to lash out at something you don't understand (usually out of fear and ignoramce) than it is to take the time to learn about it intelligently.

Does it make you any less of a man or woman to be a little kinder to another human being - no matter what particular blend of characteristics they may possess?
Some people treat animals better than humans. They show kindness, patience and concern for a dog or a cat - no matter what the animal looks like - why not for your fellow human beings?

Sometimes I think an over-abundance of testosterone rules the world... causing so much agression. As long as people throw around these negative, "big balled" comments filled with violence and discrimination, (whether they mean it or not)we keep taking a step backwards! - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 1:06pm
SweetGrass Here! Here! I get right tired of being called a Hippie on this site because I'm not yelling at everyone.Yelling is easy...peace takes work! - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 6:53pm
unattainable woah! I got slammed by hippies!
Well, I was saying exactly what you were saying, although it was phrased differently and directed towards those who mocked "the hippies" on here and who don't pay attention to those who are all about peace/love and generally appear blinded to a lot of the anger etc that exists. Do you get it? They don't understand you because you're so far off in one direction, and you, though you might say that you do, don't understand them (me). Our anger/frustration fuels a lot of cool stuff we do in the world. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 7:38pm
Putting things in perspective Unattainable: I wasn't slamming you!
I wanted to use your comment as a lead into a discussion(?)I thought!

I wanted expand on it before people jumped all over your comment about "kicking the shit out of everyone" and started a load of stupid, negative comments that go off on another tangent - as so often happens on this site. That's why I felt your comment may be counter-productive in this discussion.

AND, by the way, I might have been a little bit of a hippie in the 60's - when people were much more accepting of such a social stance. But now I'm just a 55 year old (YIKES!) business woman that enjoys keeping up on things and talking with people of my son's age! The only thing hippie about me is my butt! Sorry to disappoint you! - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 8:47pm
unattainable Hey PTIP, thats cool, I understand.
1st off please keep in mind that most people don't use this board as a SERIOUS discussion forum, so most stupid comments are meant to be funny, voicing the dumb things that yer average twit would say, so don't take it personally.
Thats my 2nd thing: its tough when we're talking about things as serious as war to not take it personally (i.e. my reaction to your reaction to my joke - cuz I'm getting tense listening to the news).
And third, my use of the word hippy is joking as well, I don't use it as a dis. I refer to myself as one at times. And my "hippiest" friends don't mind being called one - they're proud of what the word means to them.
I truly don't believe that there are all too many horrible people on this board worth getting upset over. If there were most of us would stay the hell away! - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 9:28pm
XY-SATAN What's a hippie butt ? LOL !! - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 9:29pm
Putting things in perspective XY-SATAN... You wouldn't want to know - believe me! - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 10:32am
Putting things in persepctive Unattainable... relax!
I understand most of the humour (or lack of...) on this site. I realize that a lot of the content is just bullshit. I've been visiting this site for a long time, since my son and his band first clued me in. I don't post very often, but I'm beginning to know who's who and their personalities through their posts and actually know a few of the people posting. They're good people.
I take most of the comments with a grain of salt... I ain't that old!!! In my mind, I'm still in my twenties (God help me!) However, getting older sucks big time. It shuts you out of a lot of things and places where it's not "cool" for anyone over 30 to go. LiveVic allows me to participate and occasionally help put things in perspective - like the Iraq thing that has a lot of you scared.

AND, yes... being a hippie is a compliment in my eyes!
PEACE - LOVE - HAPPINESS!
