Anonymous NO ONE is giong to pay for this shit unless they see some REALLY impressive samples. There are too many awesome artists that will do it for free. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 3:46pm

If you'd like to see some of my work, I would be glad to e-mail you my portfolio. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 8:12pm
Anonymous Most graphics design artists charge for one professional poster anywhere from 100-500 dollars. I've seen some of the amps to eleven stuff that this girl does, and its professional quality. Don't knock stuff until you've seen it buddy. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 8:13pm
Graphic Artist You should be charging more.

If your work is good - then it is also of value!
Don't sell yourself short by basically giving away your work.
People are always looking for something for next to nothing and many people will take advantage of someone just starting out. They don't always realize the amount of work and skill that goes into good, effective graphic design.

Helping out people once in a while is OK... but it's an easy, but very slippery slide, to get caught up in, if you are hoping for a career in graphics.

Just a word to the wise from someone who's been in the business for a VERY long time.
Best wishes! - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 1:31am

Thanks for the advice. But I am doing these designs mainly for fun, so I don't mind charging less. I also know that most local bands don't make a lot of money, so it would be nice for them to get quality work, at an affordable price. - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 3:04am

That's cool, but in my experience it's extrememly rare for a local band to make even 50 bucks at a gig here. Ever. It just almost never happens, so I'm not sure bands will be willing to lose money on a poster at 100 bucks. Would be great for special events though, just not regular local shows. What you might try is posting on the Vancouver version of this. They're bands get paid considerably more when they come over and might have the cash for this sort of thing. Having a production name is also cool (and often works) for artwork. GL - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 6:45am
Graphic Artist Hello Kate!
I'm guilty of helping out bands too! My son is in a bnad and I do all their publicity and have also done work for their friends in other bands.
I just worry that you're good intentions and talents may be taken advantage of... especially if a band starts to go places! - Mon, 17 Mar 2003 1:29pm
