Troutbreath According to the police on the television news last night growing Marijuana is a 12 billion dollar industry in this province. Why don't we just legalize it, tax the proceeds and use that money to pay for roads schools, hospitals and all the other things that we can't seem to afford right now? - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 10:10am
Dr.LOAD Because that would make too much sense for the government officials, and to think that they call pot smokers stupid. - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 10:15am
HHH both of you have no idea. US legislation would cut back it's spending and trade. It's not just a canadian decision. If it was legal, who would pay for it when it grows so well in our backyards? I does make sense what your saying no doubt, at this time it wouldn't work. - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 12:41pm
Anonymous Oh yea, great idea, hand it to the government so they make all the money. Pot money keeps the province afloat regardless of whether it's currently taxed or not. - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 1:03pm
HHH good point! - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 1:11pm
Anonymous NO NO NO!
you would take out of the hands of the people who make there living growing.
the price would drop so dramatically that only big business and the goverment could make a buck.
you hear of many people making there own booze of cigarettes... NO.
growers like the situation they have now. shit they could bust a few people to help bring the prices up, get rid of those fuckers selling under market price. - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 1:24pm
King Bong The HHH guy said it right, it is all about control..we can never forget that, what cannot be controlled will not be allowed..simple...and as a long time participant and someone who has done time for the crime I say .. 1.decriminalize simlpe possession,2. no jail time for cultvation convictions of 99 plants or less, and 3. a redirection of police budgets towards the prusuit of the meth, coke, and herion dealers...these three things would keep the current BC industry a collection of home based independant Mom and Pop operations...you can make a decent living out of a well managed 75 plant garden, and anything bigger than 99 begins to produce amounts only those involved with certian organized groups can afford to aguire in one lump sum..ask yourself how many people can come up wtih 25 or 40 thousand in cash these days...By keeping the growers a lose knit group of independants we will protect the industry much better than full legalization ever would..now the medical issue that is a different thing and I would Invite HHH and any like minded Victoria band to join us in our support of Victoria's two Compassion clubs who are constantly being busted for trying to help people who are sick and dying....ok, ok, I'll quit preaching ..until our next show....

Dr.LOAD I'm fully aware of the USAs stance on pot, but quite frankly if nobody stands up to them then they'll remain in their tunnel visioned, bible thumping, mind set forever. The United states is making some headway already when it comes to medical marijuana anyway so they are really one step closer to legalization just through the taxing of medical pot as is (they need cash to fund their psycotic war efforts anyhow) Quite frankly I think that if our political powers had any balls they could force this issue and even if trade suffers the rest of the planet likes us and I'm sure that any economic damage would be temporary and a valuable president would be set for progressive thinking people everywhere. I do of course think that de-criminalization is the way to go, but having legal and taxed is still better than wasting police time and money trying to control it (even in the case of legalization it would most likely be the same as tobacco in that you are allowed to grow personal quantities so hey, everyone wins). - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 8:33pm
Anonymous legalization is only good for the goverment!
don't get your self wrong , the police are not activly pursuing small scale growers.
also who can't find pot?REALLY! do we need to change things.
people who are getting busted are no different than people who speed in there cars... they were given a little rope and they took to much. - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 12:49am
Dr.LOAD That's an excellent point, it is the careless that get caught 95% of the time. All and all the pot smoking community does have it pretty well in B.C. but it's acceptance at a global scale that's really the issue. Humanity is going to have to open it's mind a little more if it ever wants to evolve past chimp status, just seeing those stupid adds from the USAs anti drug coalition is enough to make my blood boil (if your going to tell kids that drugs are bad, give them real facts and focus on crack and heroin). My argument is that legalization will make it fully legal for you to grow your own pot for personal use (most likely if it's anything like tobacco laws) and that's a little better than making it "pretty safe" to grow your own now. - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 4:12am
Troutbreath I started smoking up about 1966. Over the years friends of mine have been busted for amounts as big as three tons to the residue in a hash pipe. My concern about the laws as they are now has to with the arbitrary nature of the enforcement. In the late sixties early seventies people were being beaten in Vancouver for the possesion of a single joint. It ended up with the Gastown Smoke-in which erupted into the Gastown riot. One friend was hit along the side of her face with a police baton so hard it left her with permanant nerve damage. While at the moment it does seem like the Pot laws are being used to remove the truly violent people where nothing else is available it still doesn't do much for my longstanding paranoia. Some police would like a return to the 'good old days'. I would like to see some kind of decrimilization where things are clarified for both the user and the cops. I like Stickys suggestions - Fri, 14 Mar 2003 11:05am
