Hello everyone! Letting you all know that we've officially opened the doors to our new store in Fernwood Square! 1294 Gladstone is the address. We are specializing in underground/extreme music. genres include: anarcho-punk, grindcore, black metal, death metal, crust-punk and more!!!

We also carry Military Surplus at VERY reasonable rates! this includes combat boots, jackets, shirts, backpacks, rain gear etc. we have a lot of things by donation as well!

In addition to all of that, we are also a new/used bookstore! we specialize in radical literature but also carry classic fiction, punk zines, fantasy etc.

We will be putting a "wish-list" on the wall for people looking for specific things, so keep that in mind.

So far as we know this is the first store of its kind in Victoria and will need your support to survive as it is rather "specialized." We are not doing it for money; you will find that our stuff is the CHEAPEST in town.

We will be getting new records/books/clothing in every week!

Please feel free to contact us for distribution at shows or more information.

What are your hours? I would love to pop in for a look but I work graveyards and live out in colwood so I'd need to know when I could get in and drop some cash and fill out a wish-list\m/ and thanx for appealing to the punks and metal heads. Now all ya need is a booze section! *shotguns* - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 9:43am

Neat! Reminds me of that military surplus place downstairs off Fort street, and then moved upstairs to the Inner City Youth Centre. Forgot the name - Eric Boros used to run it. - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 4:55pm

Carmudgeon Rocker: perhaps you are thinking of Sabat--it was a little store in the back of John's Military Surplus store on View St. back in the mid 1990s. it was actually run by an anarchist collective started by members of the old Victoria band "Black Kronstadt". The collective, of which Eric was a part of, wanted a bigger store(the room in John's Surplus was actually an old bathroom!)but then went out of business(along with Inner City Youth Works....or something like that! I was a part of the original 5 person collective(Black Kronstadt) and this new space is in fact styled after Sabat. good call!

we are open 11-5ish. see you soon! - Thu, 21 Feb 2008 7:45pm

you should look into getting releases from robotic empire (ed gein, pg 99, transistor transistor, many more), denovali (la quiete, celeste, cease upon the capitol), level plane, bridge 9 records, deathwish, revelation, etc. screamy stuff and hardcore. stuff for us kids not so into metal and crust/grind. nobody else really gets this kind of thing in here and there are a lot of hardcore kids. I always have to use mailorder or go to vancouver, even seattle, just for the chance to score something cool. just a suggestion for some genre expansion, I'm pretty sure most of what I mentioned is very supportive of punk distros and DIY. - Fri, 22 Feb 2008 10:07am

I'm sorry, but what's wrong with Sick Of It All, Gorilla Biscuits, and Cro-Mags?

I haven't been to the place yet but I hear there's a really really heavy slant towards crust/grind. that's cool and all but you should consider using Singles Going Steady in Seattle as a model. they've been around a long time and they have a ton of subgenres including "modern hardcore" - post-85 stuff that slowed down a bit. if there are enough hardcore kids to have regular hardcore shows, often more often than crust shows, than surely there's enough kids around to stock up on their kind of hardcore. - Tue, 4 Mar 2008 3:19pm

Dude, I'm pretty sure it's logical for Wolf to have a slant towards the kind of music that he enjoys most and wants to be selling. Maybe you should actually try checking out the store and even talking to them about this in person rather than just being some random figure on the internet insisting that they carry more of a style I'm pretty sure they don't especially care for. If you actually go in quasi-frequently and show somewhat of an interest in buying shit from the store Wolf will be far more likely to consider getting your kind of music in (I know he's ordering more powerviolence and the like because my friends and I buy all the PV-related stuff he gets in). - Wed, 5 Mar 2008 12:40pm

What is wrong with SOIA , GB and Cro-Mags

We know it is going to be mostly stuff he listens to start with and wants to sell
Tyler will eventually find time to get in there and will most likely pick up a bunch of stuff and also talk to wolf about possibly getting in there, but as he stated he hasn't had time. I have only got to go in once due to working weekdays.
Tyler goes to school and is a recording tech and has had a lot of homework in the last week.

After i left the store i remembered some more stuff i saw there that i want to pick up
like Yage, Bread and Circuits
More Gather after listening to the split i picked up there. - Wed, 5 Mar 2008 1:04pm

I'm not blaming Tyler for not having been able to go in yet or anything, I'm just saying he'll make far greater progress towards getting more of his kind of music carried there if he actually goes in than by posting it on livevic repeatedly. - Wed, 5 Mar 2008 1:17pm

thanks for everyone who's been coming in! the store is going well, which means Danielle(my partner who also runs this store, in fact she does over half the work) and I can order more stuff(we are volunteers at this point, i.e not paying ourselves so we can get more music and such). So far as styles go, we hope to cater to everyone we can. We certainly will track down things people are looking for(hardcore, crust, noise, metal etc.).

any bands looking to get buttons done get in touch as well, since we are doing a lot of that now!

also, bands bring demos down. eventually we'll have a "local" section(yes, a new arrivals as well!).

all for now. - Fri, 7 Mar 2008 9:13pm

I was down there this afternoon, I remember buying vinyl from him before at the Anarcist Book Fair (where I got Poison Idea-Feel the Darkness). I see he still has both the new Poison Idea album but also still has Rebel Spell on vinyl (gotta get that when I can afford to buy records again; last thing I bought was Sepultura-Chaos AD on 180 gram Roadrunner vinyl). But I was shocked to see another copy of Punk and Disorderly on vinyl, I bought it years ago, good comp! I wonder if he'll be selling local CDs in the future?!? - Wed, 2 Apr 2008 12:42am Edited: Wed, 2 Apr 2008 12:45am
