Simple Plan, New Found Glory, Not By Choice, Lit, Blink 182, Sum 41, Good Charlotte = THE SAD SAD , SICKENING DOWNFALL OF THE QUALITY OF MUSIC.

the fact that people call this CRAP good music is a joke, Simply a REHASH of past revolutionization, of bands long forgotten. These bands, call themselves, quality artists, GIVE ME a break, they hardly play more than 3 chords, and the lyrics are elementary level. FAR FROM INFLUENTIAL, MORE LIKE REPETITIVE, COPY-CAT GARGAGE.

I have boycotted these , sex pistols wannabe's, due to there lack of creativity and lack of diversity.

BOTTOM LINE: BITCHY YOUNG KIDS AND ADULTS LOOKING TO CASH IN, DUE TO THERE MAINSTREAM EFFORTLESS CRAP MUSIC. - Tue, 11 Mar 2003 7:52pm

XY-SATAN THE SEX PISTOLS WERE A BAND
Technically, of course, they were a group but not in the sense that they were individual people making individual decisions about their music, their shows or any media blitz. Just as with the Monkees, they were pieced together by canny manipulators of the young that had something exact in mind. Of course, neither band would have taken off without SOME talent. The Monkees had professional songwriters and musicians to take care of their records. The Pistols were a rag-tag ensemble without much distinctive character until a green-toothed savage named Lydon wandered into Malcolm McLaren's shop (This assumption itself may be suspect as Glen Matlock is supposedly responsible for writing the music of the Pistols songs while he was with the band). McLaren lumped them together and got behind them, knowing he had something marketable.

You see it never changes, even the sex pistols were made up for making profit !

Ah but McLaren was the one who ripped the band off, then again he created the Pistols cause it was good P.R. for his clothing line. Malcolm is the real thief in that example. - Tue, 11 Mar 2003 9:47pm

I agree with most of the original post, but I don't think it's right to criticize bands for only playing three chords. Ever heard of the Ramones? - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 12:05am
Spark you seem a little angry and obsessive are you sure you don't need to breathe abit? - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 12:34am
Edward Yes, it would seem there's a hint of sexual frustration from the first post - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 12:46am
Anonymous no, he just has a brain. Go look for a boyfriend somewhere else, Edward. - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 1:23am
Anonymous the pistols were designed to create a reaction and the ramones re-hashed 50's melodies to make thier music
but i like never mind the bullocks and the ramones wrote tunes that were fun
better than other formula bands like like linkin park and limp biskit
fact is ....not all pop music gereated to make sales is crap
ac/dc has been writing the same three chord song for 30 years and i lke alot of thier tunes as well
but im not running out to buy spice girls cd's anytime soon
cheers CC - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 3:38am
mer blink 182--simple plan--and all bands like them have become famous only because most humans brains cannont handle complicated music so they like to listen to simple brainless music like that - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 7:26am
MWPR You all need a lesson in punk 101. Read "Englands Dreaming" by Jon Savage, or "Rotten" by John Lydon. Steve Jones and Paul Cook had the band that was essentially the Pistols way before Malcolm came into the picture. Matlock did write most of the songs and Rotten penned most of the lyrics. The101ers were called "punk" in the press a year before the Pistols played a gig. Finally, the Brit bands were influenced by Bowie, Roxy music, Dr Feelgood, the Who and the Stones; not the so-called godfather of punk... so there! - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 10:15am
Anonymous punk died in 1977. the rest are sad imitators. - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 10:24am
Troutbreath There is a new movie out called "24 Hour Party People"
an unfortunate name maybe but the Movie is about the 'punk' scene in Manchester and especially the band that became New Order. Worth watching. - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 10:49am
Troutbreath Oh and by the way I think music is capable of surviving punk pop or anything else that comes along. It managed to survive Terry Jacks for christ sakes!!! - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 10:52am
Spark yea, eventually the music scene will turn around like it always does. - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 11:09am
ticklefish Sadly, all this really does is reflect our age. I am in my mid 30's and was big into the scene of the late 70's early 80's : The Clash, The Ruts, The Skids, Pistols, New York Dolls, Ramones, Siouxsie, The Damned, Husker Du, and closer to home, SNFU, Big Drill Car out of california (who Green Day is a full copy cat of). I have a vinyl/cassette/CD collection of some of the best punk/early alternative albums made. Does my 8 yr old who swears to his friends he likes "heavy punk" music like any of this stuff? No, he listens to Sum 41, Avril Lavigne (hey, he's 8), Treble Charger....why? Because they aren't wrinkled old men!

Shit, I didn't start listening to anything outside my immediate realm of influence until I got into my 20's, when I realized that there were good musicians pre-1977.

I agree with the starter of the thread that these bands are boring dull derivative rip-offs, but kids are the engine that keeps all of us playing music (directly or not), and they aren't going to buy some CD of some band from back when their dad had pimples on his face. They want to see the video now, and see the band live today. - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 2:16pm
Anonymous I work in a high school and I'm constantly amazed by the music the kids here are listening to. Many of them are turned off by the music scene today and are listening to older music. I asked this kid the other day what was on his discman and he was listening to Bitches Brew by Miles Davis. I congratulated him on his musical taste. - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 3:39pm
minimags yes pop-y punk bands do make me sad.. even if i was born after 1977... i have a lot of respect for those older who actually went through all of that crazy punk shit.. i would have loved to be living in london in the 70s when punks were all around and no one was talking all this poser stuff. I admit, i'll call people posers.. and some really do deserve it ( aka avril lavigne and simple plan) but its sad that everyone has to be calling everyone else posers.. its music people.. we shouldn't get all rallied up by it.. let's just enjoy the fact that we have something in common and grow on that.. there shouldnt be all this hate and anger amongst us.. - Wed, 12 Mar 2003 4:27pm

Anonymous No we don't. - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 9:50am
Anonymous Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilara, Brittney Spears, Shania Twain, I don't care what you call them, but what heterosexual male would not ..... - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 1:16pm
ticklefish Mike K: I was never disagreeing with you. In fact I agree wholeheartedly...half of it too is that "kids" (insert age here) will always like what their parents don't. Sadly, that means my kid and any others I may have will be left only with enjoying knock-off bands, crap top40, boy-bands, and new country seeing as I listen to the rest.
And, as for the "what heterosexual male...." no doubt! I watch my kid when Britney Spears comes on TV, he covers his ears because he hates her, but his tongue is on the floor and he can't walk away. - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 2:13pm
Anonymous I like Averil's ass crack. As Ed the sock says, she's the anti-Britteny - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 3:54pm
