| Drustanos User Info... | Band names are hard to come by. The name is quite similar, but then again, there are also like 6 bands named Golgotha (although not in Victoria). | Andrew S. User Info... | Not changing the name. Dylan thought the name up years ago and mentioned it to us and we liked it. Archon and Anachron are two totally different words with two totally different meanings. Archon (Gr. άρχων, pl. άρχοντες) is a Greek word that means "ruler" or the like, though it is frequently encountered as the title of some specific public office. In form the word is simply the masculine present participle of the verb stem αρχ- (meaning "to rule"), derived from the same root that appears in words such as monarch and hierarchy. Anachron does not show up on wikipedia so i have no idea what it as that word means, but Anachronist does show up. A legion refers to an army, battle and war, and a horde is a clan of nomads. Either way the literal meanings of both names are completely different and the only reason people are getting thier balls tied is because the word almost maybe sounds the same. Who cares. I dont. If we really wanted to rip them off we'd call ourselves Legion of Anachron of Horde Archon. It is, as I have heard, a reference to anachronism (something misplaced within a specific time period). like a motorboat in ancient rome. Therefore, Horde of Anachron would be a horde misplaced in a specific time .. which is an awesome concept. I made this thread speaking as someone who has been a fan and supporter of the horde since its inception. | Sati User Info... | Excellent name! Speaking as someone on the outside, please don't change it. I didn't even notice the similarity. Just thought it was a great one which better suits the band. Even if it was too close (which I don't think it is), you're from the same place so you're influenced by a lot of the same things, experiences, and each other. Being proud of that and referencing each other is in my opinion part of what makes a strong scene - even while you may not sound alike. To be thought of in the same light as either of these bands is obviously not a bad thing. And it doesn't sound like HoA, the more senior band, is bothered so take that as a compliment! Not to diminish the concern since I may be missing something, but from what I've seen here, there's no "ripoff" worth sweating about. (p.s. | Mr. Hell User Info... | I have to say that my first reaction to the name was that it instantly reminded me of Horde Of Anachron. I wondered if there would be any problems bourne out of the choice, but if Horde doesn't care, power to everyone involved. I, personally would not choose a name that was similar cosmetically and phonetically in a way to an existing local band. Especially being that both bands are metal, it's rather close. If it works out and there is no confusion, then there is no harm. But retentive people like me and Dan will shake our heads at the seemingly easy way out of naming a band. Would you say the same thing if Arkhon Infaustus somehow came to play a show here and HoA opened for them? Infaustus sounds just as much like "Horde of" as "Legion" does. Or let me ask you this; how about Dissection and Dismember? Both names refer to disassembling the human body in one way or another, and have a way more similar tone. Damn, they're even from the same country, they might have even been featured on the same poster before.
