These "whos the best..." threads are lame. There is no "best drummer" or "best guitarist". For every person you see ripping it up, there's a kid sitting in his or her basement (or perhaps a woodshed) that's twice as good.
No offense to the players already listed, there all good at what they do, I just think a "who's your favourite..." would be alot better. - Mon, 3 Mar 2003 5:04pm
RSBF awwwwww come on Jason, have some fun - this ain't serious.......... it's just one of those 'who do you enjoy listening to the most' kinda things.

i have no idea if the drummer's i listed are "THE BEST" - i don't even go to many shows that aren't of the genres of music i enjoy most......... my list are the drummer's that are the best in my mind from what i've seen and heard so far. they catch my ear among other things ; ) - Mon, 3 Mar 2003 5:14pm
Adrenaline Animal Ok, My "favorite drummers" that I've seen in vic over the years would have to be............................... drum roll please ( - Mon, 3 Mar 2003 5:16pm
Jedi who's aaron b? why would you have to see him alone?? Is he a closet drummer?

It's just that he cant play at his full potential with the band he's in now. He can play both soft and loud, his double bass rhythms would give any great bassist or guitarist a challenge. Plus he plays guitar, gives him an edge as a drummer. - Mon, 3 Mar 2003 6:33pm

brad Hmm...i don't know what Jedi has against Gallows End. I've only seen them once live, and listened to the mp3's a bunch. but from what i can tell from listening is that they have a wicked bassist and killer guitars. Ya i was really impressed with the drummer too (wish i could play that well)!! I thought they all complimented each other very well....whatever- opinions, opinions.... - Mon, 3 Mar 2003 8:16pm

Hey thanks for putting my name on here, but being a drummer here's the guys in this town that I cant even come close to.
John London- Pigment Vehicle, formerly of
Onion House, Colour Out Of Space, and Mission Of Christ
Jason Benoit- formerly drummed for pigment Vehicle, now plays keyboards for them.
Dustin Schwamn- played in every band in this city at one time or another.
Terri James(I think thats his name)- used to play for punish
There's lots of others but these guys make me forget that there is anybody else on stage when they are playing. That pretty much says it all. - Tue, 4 Mar 2003 1:47am
Adrenaline Animal I forgot about Punish, that drummer did kick some serious ass.
Mike from Last Laugh was always fun to watch too. - Tue, 4 Mar 2003 2:18am
Anonymous i played with terry james in punish and he is not only a great drummer but easy to work with
i also played with loran werrun in conviction and later with punish ...hes in zappinin black now and he was also a pleasure to play with...
both these guys are really fuckin dedicated to thier chosen instrument which goes a long way with me
danny weir might have been a good drummer if he wasnt drunk most of the time
and stefano from dizzy is another reputible drummer and a damn good guy at that....
the old sayin goes...a band is only as good as its drummer
i just wish there was more good drummers in this town so there could be more cool bands.....
dave from gorilla mosoon is damn good too
cheers CC - Tue, 4 Mar 2003 4:03am

Gary Brainless is a awesome drummer, he's fun to watch (I get a kick out of seeing him play)!!!! I have to make mention of Stefano from Dizzy cause he's been playing for years and he's really good at playing (plus I know him). When I lived in Sooke many years ago, you could hear him like 2 blocks away on a quiet night practicing in his basement, needless to say the neighbours weren't pleased, including my father (RIP). - Mon, 10 Mar 2003 4:33am

John Wright (duh.)
Lil' ol' Kenny Kempster, my old chum.
John London is just the greatest...Sludge Confrontations was such a hoot. I saw Colour out of Space open for Alice in Chains I think it was...great show. Him and Sean Ross together were one of the classic Vic rhythm sections.
Dan Beer who I am SO lucky to be playing with. Kind of a Bruford/Copeland thing goin' on. A great player.
Scott Henderson...just because he can do it!

paul-HHH...luke-GN - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 12:41am
Anonymous I don't know if you guys have ever seen Paul from HHH actually play drums before. My guess, since you also picked that poser from GN, is that just because he's got a record deal he must be good. Hasn't anyone ever noticed the fact that his tempos when he plays live vary in songs by at least 10-15 bpm???? Not only does it make his drumming sound sloppy, it causes the singer to rush and make his lyrics sound garbled. I would think, along with many other people on this board that a defining aspect for a good drummer, or even just a decent drummer should definitely require some sort of talent at KEEPING SOLID TIME!!! - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 2:12am
Anonymous Josh of RB/JWAB is pretty a damn good drummer. - Thu, 13 Mar 2003 2:25am

hey fuck guy, anyone who can figure out how to play those damned contraptions is good in my book. punk and metal drummers have it tough in that they have to think faster than rock drummers lots of the time, which can be hard for them as they're all fyucked in the head. Jay Brown, Dustin Rentsnorter, Lincoln McCulloch, Frank Shiv, Blind Marlik, that guy in the Sweathogs, Mike Walmsley, Mike Hughes, these cats all got it figured out well. I understand the rock drummers in this town are pretty damn good as well, but haven't seen any of them yet. Vic actually has tons of real good musicians for the size of this hick town. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 10:45am
beandead yea Elvin Jones! Mitch Mitchell woulda never been a decnt backup drummer if he hadn't learned from Elvin Jones.

Ginger Baker, Bill Bruford, King Koffee, Steve Drozd, there are so many good contemporary drummers these days too from the last 20 + years. Buddy Miles, I like that guys style. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 12:44pm
beandead I guess it's a given that Jason ex of P.V. was freaking phenomenol. There was this metal band Jay Flower put on Break Even, I can't remember their name. The drummer was wicked crazy good. Anyone?I'd like to find that guy for my band. That Bounty/hump drummer was heavy good too but he's a nutjob from what I hear. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 12:50pm
Metal Drummers... Look at Canadas Flo Mounier.. Plays in a band called Crypropsy.. Internationally recognized as one of the best drummers around,, fully schooled, fully trained, teaches at various percussion schools and gives clinics when not touring..

Look at Gene Hoglan, plays in a band called Strapping Young Lad. also internationally reknowned. Can out drum almost any drummer on the planet. Regularly gives clinics as far away as Europe. One of the most respected drummers in the hard music scene.

Did anyone come check out Candiria when they played Victoria? Their drummer even played underhanded jazz style on a 4 peice kit.. was almost as killer as Flo Mounier..

Anyhow, I could go on and on, but whomever claimes metal drummers cant drum and just bang on their drums is probably somebody who thinks that earwigs actually go into peoples ears and eat their brains. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 12:52pm

Wow, could that be any more ignorant? - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 10:16pm
Tony Williams No it can't. Learn how to spell his name right for a start: 'Gene Krupa', and then realize he was more of a swing, big band entertainer than a 'die in the wool' jazz drummer like Max Roach. And finally, shut the fuck up, because you obviously know nothing about either genre. - Sun, 16 Mar 2003 11:05pm
