'Crowd surfing is a practice where audience members are boosted up above the crowd and pushed along by other fans.'

'Moshing is an aggressive form of dance where fans, typically those closest to the stage, push or slam into each other, usually in time with the music.' - Wed, 26 Sep 2007 8:42am Edited: Wed, 26 Sep 2007 1:30pm

That death is actually a good reminder of how risky big pits really are.

The number of f'n idiots at big concerts has grown exponentially over the years... I'd avoid huge moshpits at all costs, just cuz it seems the people in them generally "don't get it". - Wed, 26 Sep 2007 10:53pm

I've moshed with the best of em. I seem to gravitate to the circles. With the right crowd it can be an awesome experience. I've owned a few, but mostly now I find myself policing, and picking up others. I see many a drunken fool who hasn't done any exercise since grade 12 p.e. class stumble in and think they can handle themselves. You need to be in good shape for these big pits. Being under the influence can be very dangerous. - Thu, 27 Sep 2007 1:20am

I won't touch moshes with a ten foot pole anymore. At all ages shows when younger, sure. At bar shows, too many aggro assholes that are just out to hurt people. Big moshes, too many elbows and too compact.

I'm getting old. - Sun, 30 Sep 2007 1:41pm

Yes, I too now avoid the pits...age, I suppose. That and I really didn't like accidentally grabbing handfuls of hair on people a foot and half shorter than I.

That Slayer pit at Ozzfest '99 was my last one actually. That was the biggest one I've been in! - Mon, 1 Oct 2007 12:20pm
