What an utter asshole, him and his cohorts. How anyone could screw up $200 million in such an evil fashion blows my mind.

I just wanted to point out that the main reason those dogs were killed was because they didn't want to fight. "Pitbulls" regularily score very well in tests that determine wether a breed is vicious or not, better in fact than Golden Labs, and German Shepards. Yet all that people hear about is the ones that fight.

Recently I have heard extremely negative remarks from various people I know regarding their feelings towards "Pitbulls". I am continually shocked by the ignorance of otherwise intelligent people.

I am reposting this link to reaffirm that the various "Pitbull" breeds are not inherently evil. It is sad, so be warned. Maybe look away at the 50 second mark, it's safe to look again at 1min 15 sec, look away again at the 1min 53sec mark until the 2min 30 sec mark.

Vick is an overrated player and, apparently, an irresponsible scumbag at the very least.

Many ill-informed people have fearfully referred to my dog (a rottweiler-lab-golden retriever cross) as a pitbull when we're out walking. It pisses me off because 1) he's not a pitbull 2) there's really no such thing as a pitbull and 3) the dogs people usually think of as "pitbulls" (some kind of staffordshire cross) are usually gentle, loyal, and good with kids.

Totally agree. Every decade there's a type of dog labelled as bad. In the 70's it was german shepherds, in the 80's it was rotties, in the 90's pitbulls and ikeda's shared the spotlight and pitbulls pretty much took over after that.
Personally I think this has a lot to do with what type of dog is popular to own. Pitbulls are a very popular breed, and have been for a while now. So it's natural you're going to hear so many 'horror' stories regarding the breed, because there's always going to be people using that breed for things other than companionship. Dog's aren't born bad, just like people, they're trained/treated badly and that's the effect.

An eye for an eye. Make Mr Vick, or any of his ilk, and his cohorts enter a ring and fight over and over until they're as damaged as the sickening images in Trev's link. - Sat, 25 Aug 2007 12:45pm

Ray Lewis is a murderer and he still plays, so Vick will be back. He just didn't roll on his buddies soon enough. The Atlanta Falcons are the biggest losers because they will have to distance themselves from him even after spending so much money to get him in the first place. All the other NFL teams will be eagerly awaiting Vick's return so they can snatch him up for a fraction of what the Falcons paid. I bet Michael Vick will do no jail time, just a hefty fine (and maybe a new jersey!)
The thing that pisses me off is that the NFL is more concerned with the alleged gambling over the dogs than the dog fighting itself. - Fri, 31 Aug 2007 2:43pm Edited: Fri, 31 Aug 2007 2:46pm

how could you even think that a team is gunna pick up micheal vick after this? before this fuck up, he a) never showed up to practice, b)expects the world from a team he doesn't even support, c) never trains, d) ran a fucking dog fighting ring(infamous dog fighting ring no less).
He's worth about a kick in the ass with a frozen boot. Dont even bring his 1 great year of stats in play. He holds no records; is a dick to all his coaches, expecting them to start him every game. AAAAnd, not to mention that he represents his team about as well as jeremy roenick does with the press... NO FUCKING GOOD.
Just because he's on the front of 1 video game doesn't make him a god of football... theres a million other pieces of shit that can catch a ball and run.
I hope to never see him play pro football again. And to think a team would even consider him is a sheer joke. - Wed, 5 Sep 2007 2:30pm

You guys, don't shoot the messenger. Or me, cuz I have absolutely no tolerence for cruelty toward animals.
But all she was saying is that people of his mindset exist and that dogfighting is more common & generally acceptable where he's from. She didn't say it wasn't wrong or serious or that she agrees with him.
Oi, I feel one of my looooong posts coming on!

For whatever reason there exist those with very little sensitivity or compassion for animals or people. I remember being blown away once when a guy I knew as a normal enough person, had absolutely NO regard for music. I can't say how alien I find even people like that! But can I fault them for not being like me & those in my world? It just is.

I've defended some very cruel natured, mysogenist people on here before and people (in my camp?) have hated me for it, but all I was doing was saying that just cuz what they're into is repulsive from our viewpoint we can't expect them to see the errors of their ways and "be like us" overnight. Especially if kindness & empathy is not part of their natural tendencies and they've never been shown why violence or hatred isn't acceptable. Yes, that could really be a possibility. Continuing to ostracize or stomp them down while they learn their lessons and take babysteps in the right direction just isn't going to help. They'll just figure there's no point to even trying to understand cuz they'll get crapped on either way.

I hate this guy for what he's done, but he did look stunned like he just didn't get it. Like no one had ever told him it was wrong - I can imagine a macho football enviro being like that. Maybe these are his lessons and he'll come around once he's shown that dogs hurt just as much as people and how that misery causes a ripple affect. effect? - Wed, 5 Sep 2007 8:08pm Edited: Wed, 5 Sep 2007 8:13pm

bbjones... aside from supporting the most irresponsible, selfcentred footballer ever; you seem to miss the point im trying to make... NO TEAM IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would want that plague on their team. Not to mention the team that, if it actually happens, acquires him will be under a microscope for any infractions made by vick. Let alone him already being suspended indefinitely WITHOUT pay. That should send a message to teams looking to aquire "new talent". Michael Vick is one of our generatons most overrated athelete's. Just because his stats in madden 02-04 were thru the roof, its still a video game; if you actually watched him in real life... you'd know that of the time he gets(when he's not benched for being a twat) he blames the rest of the team for his mistakes... that's not exactly what a team needs; especially at the professional level.
Now for the dog fighting... it happens. But for someone so high profile to be involved with somthing as tactless as this dog fighting ring; is really beyond me. But then again, born in the hood; always from the hood.

Just to add.
My best friend is involved in the Canadian aeronautics industry. The owner of the company he works for, himself, and their interpreter went to northern China for high level meetings with the Chinese to discuss a multi million dollar joint venture, with parts production and airfield construction in China.

They went out for dinner at a high end restaraunt one evening with their hosts. The table the all sat at spun around so you could pick your own courses, but in the middle was a "meat" stew that was considered the center piece of the meal.

Their interpreter informed them that the meat in the stew was in fact dog. My friend and his boss refused to eat it. Their hosts were so insulted that the entire deal was cancelled. I've never been so proud. - Fri, 7 Sep 2007 3:31pm

I on the other hand eat meat, but I don't get down on other cultures for eating animals that I personally wouldn't. I do take offence to that comment trevor. That would be like me saying all you White people make dogs fight and kill them without even using them for food. TOO GENERALIZED for such a huge population. If you were hard up for food(and you ate meat)... whether its dog, chicken, pig, or lizard... you have to eat. At least take solace in the fact that these animals are being used for food and not for malicious means. And on the contrary(unless you've been there trev) I've never seen or heard of anyone torturing a dog to tenderize the meat... and if you further think about it; when your scared your muscles tense and then contract. Why would you want the animal you kill to have tense muscles before cooking it up? Ideally you want the meat to be tender(Kobe beef). So really that whole torturing the dog thing is kinda hokey. sorry trev.

I get ya Trevor. Its downright scary the way when discussions involving race or cultures come up, normally reasonable people can so easily jump to conclusions. I'm including myself, but in a different way:
I'm lucky enough not to ever have been victimized that way (that I know of), so racism usually isn't something that I ever suspect, but once in a while I actually worry whether others think I have biases! I think that kind of convoluted paranoia is far more common among us than racism itself.

And yesterday a friend said organizations like the NAACP & Sharpeton & Jackson were in fact making a big race issue out of it and I got all pissed off cuz I don't consider those guys all too bright at times. But from a quick google skim of the news, it doesn't look like that was an accurate assessment of whats going on at all. - Mon, 10 Sep 2007 12:25pm Edited: Mon, 10 Sep 2007 12:29pm

Yeah, you're right, and that is what I hear. I know my perspective is is a strange one, but what can I say, I've been lucky. (Or maybe I've had blinders on my whole life as a way of protecting myself?)
That also brings to mind me saying yesterday that I may not be too pissed off to hear people refer to him with racial slurs right now, because thats what people do when they're angry. They lose control & their potty mouth takes over. I wouldn't assume they're racist because of it, unless they continue to do it when they're in a rational state of mind.
My friend did not agree. He said there's never any time when its ok. Of course, I wasn't going to argue. I just don't blame people who mess up when they're fired up. Its like when I've used 4 letter words in the wrong company. - Mon, 10 Sep 2007 12:49pm Edited: Mon, 10 Sep 2007 12:52pm
