At Tom Lee Music. In Langford. In the new bigass complex there. Across from Future Shop and Home Depot and all that. Huge balls store, you can't miss it. Anyone one know when it opens? (not the GRANDE OPENING, just regular type) - Sat, 9 Jun 2007 10:33am

Yep, it was open till 5 ! Right on !

There's was a few ESP Eclipses, but no ESP horizons(nt) or M II's.

They did however have a MH-400. MH-400nt and a Deluxe H-1001 with the new head stock. All about $800 and something, a little more for the H-1001.

If I was looking for another MH, I'd go for the MH-400nt with the EMG's with 81/85. I'm hoping to get a old M-1000 with the reverse headstock.

The store is still no L&M for size and amount of product, I’d go as far as to say kind of disappointing really.

We’ll have to see how they are on pricing? - Mon, 11 Jun 2007 10:50am

I am with XY-Satan, although it was a nice change, some different brands and some more helpful, concerned staff this in no way is a "Mega store" really. I guess they don't have everything yet, i dunno. Their pro audio is basically non-existent, just some mics but I guess you can order in a price matched item.I don't even think the drum section had sticks, unless they were hidden or something. If they didn't make such a frickin huge grand piano and acoustic section there would be a lot more room for more common things, like take a look at that grand piano section and ask yourself how many they will sell... - Tue, 12 Jun 2007 11:02am

Checked it out yesterday...not bad, but could be bigger and offer a wider variety of brands. I'm a Fender guy and I was satisfied with their selection. I prefer to buy almost all my gear used, so I don't see myself heading out there too often. I'll be interested to see if they start to offer some used gear once they become more established. - Tue, 12 Jun 2007 11:10am

Fuk yeah , what's with that?! The piano section goes on for MILES!

All the Audio/sound board and drum shit should be put or take up half that back area instead of the piano's.
Freakin line the walls and center area with small amps and guitars on all the wall s so people can sit down and try them . ( Kind of like L&M...hehehe!)
They had one tiny amp some kid was useing when I was there, very pitiful and not very well planned out.

L&M have them beat by miles, except for the hours on the weekends.. hint hint. hehehe!

Oh, one last thing.

One of the guy’s working there asked if he could help me and preceded to try to answer question about the ESP/LTD guitar brand and I almost made his head explode, He confessed he was there just to help out for the grand opening and knew nothing about guitars and shit . Hehehe!

Oh well, they just opened! - Tue, 12 Jun 2007 6:27pm Edited: Tue, 12 Jun 2007 6:36pm

Few of us went out to the Grand Opening.. not a bad selection, quite a few amps, ESP'S and LTD's so guess they got a shipment in..

Lots of free merch, I got a Fender baseball cap, and some PRS stuff, Darryl scored a PRS cap, long sleeve shirt and Chris got an Ernie Ball shirt, we all got PRS lanyards and keychains and packs of 25 picks.

Store was alot smaller than I expected, vs L/M or Vancouver's Tom Lee..

Luckily for me there wasnt anything I really wanted but it was nice to finally try a few ESP models Id seen in the catalogue's. - Sat, 16 Jun 2007 8:55pm

there's nothing wrong with a wide range of pianos. it's a music shop, not a guitar shop. I do agree that it feels kind of small, all the departments are small and jammed together, and there is an unbalanced ratio of the type of gear they have. the pianos take up as much space as the rest of the shop combined. I still like L&M more in terms of the range of products and general layout/atmosphere, but who knows, maybe this place can beat them in costs or something? I didn't do any direct comparing. also, does anyone know how rental rates compare?

I was there because I performed a couple piano songs in the performance hall and they set up one of the worst grand pianos, despite the whole selection. I wonder if they rent that hall out for... other.... kinds of shows? - Sun, 17 Jun 2007 8:18pm

Don't forget that this store is likely wanting to appeal to the high-income Bear Mountain'ers ... hence the large piano section. But if they find that their target group changes over time, I could see them changing the store to appeal to who shows them the money ; ) - Sun, 17 Jun 2007 10:35pm

That's not what I'm saying at all, come on, twist my words there slightly?

What I *AM* saying, is that that's what the demographic would be more likely interested in seeing lots of. It would more more common to see a grand piano ... or piano of any sort ... in the household of a family who would purchase a home in the area of Bear Mountain. Millstream Village caters to that demographic. Look at the stores in Millstream Village? Let's list a few here ... hmmm Tommy Hilfiger, Pier 1, Market on Millstream (high-end grocery store), Martha Stewart Furniture Store ... shall I go on? It's a known fact that they are trying to cater to a certain market there. - Sun, 17 Jun 2007 11:35pm

Well I think they'll be checking for credit cards, pay stubs or bank statements before opening up the velvet ropes for the likes of most of us on here. I pressed my nose up against the glass when I was out there for the grand opening. It looks pretty in there, but you LOOKY, but nooOOoo TOUCHY!!
Jeez, surprised I didn't see anyone out there? I did get there kind of late , but I did get to here the tail end of band playing in the parking lot, no idea who it was? But they were good.

Oh and where and how the FACK did you weasels get all the shwag ? DAMN YOU!! Hehehe! - Mon, 18 Jun 2007 5:15pm

We left right as that band started.. Not sure why you couldnt touch anything? I played about 10 guitars there! Through a decent sounding and inexpensive Randall head and one of the marshall combo's. Financing isnt that hard, Tom Lee in Van ok'd me over a year ago.. too bad for them Im on a self imposed gear buying lockdown :)

as for the free shwag, we just walked in and it was thrust into our arms at the Zone booth, which packed up shortly thereafter.. no ESP goodies though :( - Mon, 18 Jun 2007 6:58pm Edited: Mon, 18 Jun 2007 7:00pm

Hey,

I just realized, maybe they are getting rid of their "Tom Lee Pianos" stock from downtown and might use that giant piano room for something else? It's possible I guess, you usually want a separate drum room at a music store. The Tom Lee in Van actually lets you play their acoustic kits, then again I bet L&M would too but they have no room to set any up. I played an ESP Eclipse at the opening and will cry inside every time I play another guitar now....she will be mine... - Tue, 19 Jun 2007 12:52pm Edited: Tue, 19 Jun 2007 12:53pm

No, Mike I was only joking about the big glass doors looking into the piano area! I think there was a velvet rope there wasn't there??? Hehehe!

It was like looking into a jewellers display .. all locked up .

I’m used too a grubby guitar section, were all the stuff has been touched by every greasy freaking hippie/punk/metal head and drywaller in the city.

If they had a ESP Horizon/M or a lot more signatures I‘d be a happy camper! . - Tue, 19 Jun 2007 8:07pm

Yeah I too was disappointed. I'm thinking it will change over time. One big room with all the stuff crammed in is not very nice. There really wasn't a lot of ESP, Jackson, or Ibanez stuff but they had a few nice examples and the models they had did differ from what Long is carrying right now. There were some good sale prices. It's nice to have another store to check out gear and it is closer for me but I drive by Long & Mcquade everyday to work. I didn't bother checking out the Piano section so I didn't realize it was so big.

As for people on Bear Mountain buying pianos that might be partially true. I think many of them are more the type to have expensive guitars hanging on their walls that they never play though. - Fri, 22 Jun 2007 12:07pm

I think Tom Lee has opened a nice store out in Langford and I wish them sucess. The Piano room is what impressed me the most. That is Tom Lees specialty and the only reason they waited so long to move into the Victoria area. If Dave hadn't sold his store to them so they would gain the right to sell yamaha grands they wouldn't have moved. Believe it or not but Piano sales are a big deal and alot of people buy them as status symbols and nice pieces of furniture.

By the way we just got in 5150-III in stock at LM Music, so come check it out. Not officially available until the 28th but we have one set up to demo - Sat, 23 Jun 2007 7:26pm

It's a nice store; man, that piano room is big. I'll check in on occasion but will still probably head to L&M first- they've always been GREAT to me. Every retailer will have their fans and detractors but I've found in the many years of buying gear that L&M has never been anything less than professional and courteous. I hope Tom Lee's will be the same. - Sun, 24 Jun 2007 1:21pm
