I have my copy reserved at Lyle's Place (I hope). That's neat hearing songs then comparing them to tracks I already have, the only difference is that AYECH added a bit more low end to these stuff, nice work!!! - Thu, 31 May 2007 12:51pm Edited: Thu, 31 May 2007 6:29pm

this is the first I've heard of this book but it sounds really interesting. I'm especially interested in the 1990-1998ish Victoria scene so it'd be cool if someday someone compiles information on that. but anyway, I'm buying a copy of this book when it's ready. - Wed, 6 Jun 2007 3:27am

all age shows.... well it is a shame but all age shows had thier hay day back then. Why? I think when underground music first surfaced the radio stations where not playing this music, .... in that time there was alot of DIY. that still exhists today but you few "all age" show promoters will know, the attendance is poor. There is photos in the AYECH book that will blow your mind. All age shows at the OAP and Fernwood, and Da Vinci and FOE and ANAF. All age shows that where packed... hundreds of people. This lasted a few years. then it went back to the deep underground and we where standing in sardine packed basements like the Rats Nest to see bands like DRI and Nomeansno....
times have changed and i have a feeling it will be in Logans or Sugar depending on if we can get Black Flag to play... in 1983 Black Flag only charged $300 to play a show but now? anyway if your underage come anyway and i will sell you the book/CD out of the trunk of my car.

Keep your eye on the website for more info to come... the release party is still in the works. So far it seems only the Automatic Shock is practicing so they are confirmed but i have a feeling the Do-Wops are confirmed and maybe we'll see who else comes out of the old folks homes.

When my band played with DOA and hired them to come to Victoria in the winter of 1984, they only charged something like $200. The gig just barely broke even. (Actually, after it was over we lost money due to broken tables, smashed bathrooms, bands that had 30 people on the guest list, etc.) - Wed, 13 Jun 2007 12:26pm

hey y'all. so there's some debate about the show being allages or a bar show. there's no question that d.i.y. punk was and i about all ages, and the scene we're documenting was definitely a teen crowd. however, all age shows are notorious for poor turn-out these days. and besides the celebration of the book release and some great groups reuniting for the event, we DO want to bring in $ to pay off the huge financial debt the project has made.

so, what do people have to say? any solutions that would allow all ages and a beer-garden to both happen? we have about two weeks to decide the venue.

check the site for updates. cheers (without beers), jason. - Wed, 20 Jun 2007 10:24pm

Ricky/Jason...tough spot, I hear and see both sides. Of course an all ages would in my opinion be the thing to do, but the reality is liquor, well SELLS.
I think the only set room that can do this is the VIc event center, but the cost of doing a show there seems kind of high to me.
I have some good connections through work and may be able to pull some strins on some maybe not used places.
It would also be really nice to put on a big ol style all ages show, memories for us old farts and show these yungins how it used to be and in my mind still could be.
I'm up for donating any time you need making this happen. - Wed, 20 Jun 2007 10:45pm

I saw the "work print" of this book the other night.
I was BLOWN AWAY.
I couldn't even finish looking at it I was so excited seeing the little bit I did.

To paraphrase Scott Henderson as he spoke about the quality of Black Flag's "My War: (And make sure you say this in a Scot henderson type voice)

"It's so good i can't even listen to it!"

Great work you guys! - Wed, 20 Jun 2007 11:35pm

And about frickin' time!!! Hopefully I've got cash to pick up my copy from Lyle's. Cool! The website should be http://www.allyourearscanhear.com . Strange, I thought Ricky didn't do the project anymore (last I talked to him that's what he told me)?!? And I'd help, but well, Jason Flower doesn't trust me. - Fri, 6 Jul 2007 10:01am Edited: Fri, 6 Jul 2007 12:35pm

I'm sure the contact address will be added (now that there is product) and I'm sure mail-order will follow.

I just wanted to post about how fun and nostalgic, and ...proud i felt at the book packaging tonight.

Not really proud fro myself (I was only a very small part of this particular period in Victoria's music history) but proud of the work my friends have put into this book and proud of the lives lived by all the friends we talked about and the bands they were in.

I felt a great deal of affection for everyone there.

Thanks Ricky, Kev and Jason.
Marcus, you probably never come here but if you do, it was really special talking (and heat sealing) to you. - Sat, 7 Jul 2007 9:46am

ok so here is the gig poster! pls tell your friends about the event. it looks like it'll be filmed; and we naturally encourage everyone to photograph as well. i just want to add, that we did this for all of you in Victoria; so without all of you we would not have had a reason to create this. this is as much yours as it is ours. - Sun, 8 Jul 2007 6:59pm

tickets should be on sale by Monday at the latest, and we suspect the show will sell out very quickly so advance tickets are a good idea, especially for out of town folks. the book will be on sale at the show and then available in shops after the 28th. - Sat, 14 Jul 2007 6:08am

Hey!.........Congrats!
Wish I could be there. I'm writing from the high desert near Joshua Tree National Park, where I now live.
I was "Mass Appeal", who recorded, "Social Service". It was recorded in Rob and John Wright's basement. To save money NoMeansNo and I split the cost of producing a 7 inch 33 1/3 "single, each sharing a side. At that point NoMeansNo had never played live. Around the same time we recorded a NoMeansNo song in which I sang and played drums, "White Man's Burden". As far as I know the master was destroyed, some how.

Many who will, or have, heard "SS Social Service" will be happy to know I became a visual artist. Looking forward to the CD's/Book.
