It took me 3 years to get that venue back into the mindset of booking shows, turn arround for a year and what do they do?

You kids bitch about not getting shows, then when you do get them all you do is fuck the venue up or not show up to the show you bitched for in the first place. - Mon, 30 Apr 2007 5:25pm

Easy now. From what I understand it wasn't the fault of the kids who want shows, it was the hangers on who don't care about the music and are only looking to party and get drunk.
Unfortunately for the youngsters who are into music it is hard to have a gig without other kids coming and wrecking it for them. - Mon, 30 Apr 2007 9:38pm

If you're going to book the show, it's your resposibility to do the work. Did anyone ask Mr. Hell or ROSS to help? It's not up to anyone but the promoter to decide that they need extra help in putting shows on.

I don't want to get all shitty on you guys because you have done a lot to get shows going for the younger bands in the scene. A little more effort needs to be put forth to secure the venue, that's all.

I also want you to know that I've had fun at every one of your shows that I've played. There is a lot of potential for a fresh new punk rock scene here in Victoria. Lots of good new bands. It's too bad that we all have to learn this same lesson over and over again. Learn it and get on with the shows. - Wed, 2 May 2007 1:04pm

Don't be proud of ruining a section of a scene you seem to want to support and then get pissed off at people questioning why these shows are not being handled better.

Being drunk, obnoxious and destructive at all ages shows is not a badge of honor.
It shows a lack of respect to the people who work hard to make such events happen and a lack of vision to the furure of such events continuing to happen in such a small city. - Wed, 2 May 2007 6:02pm

Jeff.
Please don't be ridiculous enough to claim that the Orange Hall was shut down due to people not taking their shoes off. No venue is going to shut out a payuing demographic for such an infraction.

See, I remember al the fighting that went on here at live vic over this show w/ MBL/Wayne POwerman etc that got the Hall shut down.

Here is just a sample of various problems that occured that night:

Stand up. Put their shit in check at the moment it's happening.

Don't try and downplay something that obviously was bad enough to cause you and many others some real problems that night. Denying shit enables it to happen again.

at the time i bearly knew anyone in the punk scene only my band mates(andrew and Q) and i think we might have smoked a joint. and im not going to fucking control people, i ask them to go drink somewhere else other then the venue and if they dont go i keep on bitching, what am i supposed to do as a 16 year old kid get violent or something its not my show so i cant kick them out. yeah the orange hall show was fucked but it was because we wore our shoes inside it got shut down.

you werent there and i dont see you at any all ager shows but the ones you play, so why do you even care, you dont support them but you feel the need to give your oppinion and a bitch a whole bunch. - Thu, 3 May 2007 1:17pm

I would say that playing for free supports the all ages scene wouldn't you?
I do that.

I sometimes give money to promoters even though I don't go to the shows.
I would say that's a form of support.

I don't go to many shows because I've been to THOUSANDS in the 23 years I've been a part of the Victoria scene (in town as well as out) and my likes as far as music goes are very limited. Most bands who come through don't really interest me musically that much so I don't end up at the venue that often but sometimes my money does even if I'm not there.

I support the all-ages scene. I love Hardcore. I have always done waht I can to make sure that venues don't get shut down. Always.
I want EVERYONE to have places to play and kids to have places to go--That interests me.

Smkoe bombs in a n out of bounds area.
Fights.
Open liquor and other eveidence that underage kids were using drugs as well as smoking.

The hall did not decide to stop having shows because you wore your shoes inside.
There is no insurance liability in that.

Use your head.

I don't have to actually have been there to know what's going on. The testimony of you and other people who were there is enough.

I give my opinion because I care.

Just because some of us older folk don't go to all ages shows, doesn't mean we're not allowed to give the young idiots who wreck all ages venues shit. We all went to our fair share of all ages shows when we were not of bar age, we know the score. There is always an element that comes out just to cause problems.
It is lame to see venues being ruined by irresponsible behavior. That ruins it for people who go to shows and bands who play shows. Many people are affected...more than the 10 friends that show up to see your band play.
Don't act like such a martyr. It's transparent. - Thu, 3 May 2007 4:09pm

Wow Jeff's mom here, little Dina, and I gotta say, is this ever sad to read, once again another venue that all agers will not be able to go to.i have been to many of my son's all agers shows and have always been there supporting the kids and jeff and tyler and cordel come on you guys please dont pull the HOLIER than THOU crap about not drinking and smoking shit at your shows because i have been there dudes K!- and yes cordel remember the bloody nose crap - and you guys wonder why things get shut down ? because there are no ADULTS at the shows to make sure all is well and no chaos. As almost the only parent there I watch the parents drop their kids off and then pick them up, having NO clue what the kids are actually doing. Of course there's drinking and smoking at an all ager - COME ON - it's just like when we went to gigs at the Fernwood back in 88 and 89 with my buds Napalm Dave, Kirk and Quin!i have been sober and waited until after my son's shows to drink and party after I took the gear home - except i did smoke my green after MBL or CJ played - usually with MBL or CJ or a few of my sons' friends...its too bad that whoever puts on these shows doesnt organize a bit better and get a few more adults involved, i am sure that there's people that would help out if they were asked eh? - there's always a need for someone to keep the unleashed chaos under control - but what do i know, i am only 35 who's been enjoying and supporting the local music scene for 20 years...anyways, please dont keep bringing up the orange hall shit ok? i was there and it was a sad situation...anyways good luck guys, peace out.slayer rules. - Thu, 3 May 2007 9:05pm Edited: Thu, 3 May 2007 9:18pm

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, just cause im in a punk band doesnt mean im a punk. and if you really cared you would go to shows instead of just bitching at us on fucking live victoria.

if you havent noticed we care about losing venues its not cool, no one ever said that

and you werent at that show, non of you were, your never at any shows but the ones you play so how do you know what happened or how it happened do you know people that went to the show?

telling us "younger kids" this shit that you call caring doesnt do anything for us, youve just become everything that you most likely hated, your just like teachers and parents bitching at kids about shit you know nothing about.

so fuck off and keep your hollier then thou shit to yourselfs cause no ones listening or caring about what you have to say - Fri, 4 May 2007 12:07am

Man...I rent the Orange hall often, You didn't lose it because of no shoes!
You lost because you took the classic teenager approach, I don't care about anyone but myself, their is no consequence to my actions.
Thats cool, I was a teenager too, and so was Rawb....trust me, you hopefully will mature one day, hopefully you will realize the only people you are hurting are yourself and others with common interests.
Getting all ages venues shut down is just plain stupid.
I figure in this day and age if you really wanna be a rebel or "punk" be responsible, conscious, aware of yourself and others and make us old folks wonder about the stereotype.

hows that line from lower class brats go about never trust any one over 30, then wait I am 35?? some thing like that.

I see the whole, we don't owe you nothing, versus, this would not all be here if we didn't got through this 15 yrs ago thing over and over...

Maybe if some adults would set up some propperly run AA shows that would help, and get one or two younger bands to play with some older bands? learn by example...

MBL is actulally getting to be a really decent band, yet the only shows they get to play are ones that the kids in thier scene set up... Maybe have MBL open a all ages show for Friday Night Murder, or some thing?? and have it set up by people old enough to drink.

You can blame people for fucking up these shows, and fault lies in many places not just with one or two... From my understanding from every one I talked to the garry oak room was
a)shut down cause of problems at 2 shows, one of which had these bands, the other I know little about
b) shut down cause of problems caused by those drunks that never actually come to support the scene or actually pay to get in to the shows, the ones who sneek in and drink infront of my shows too...

On the other hand it is hard to say they should not set up shows cause their shows cause problems, and then refuse to book any of their bands.

I have occasionally booked Wayne Powerman and MBL, and Chuck has booked WP, and Brian Clement I beleive had a few of these bands play the hardcore fest him and austin set up... But I don't book em that often either... so Yeah what surpirse is there when they decide to book their own shows cause no one ever even trys to book them. - Fri, 4 May 2007 12:01pm Edited: Fri, 4 May 2007 12:01pm

Really, it's going to go like this as it has many times before.
These venues will be non-bookable for an extended amount of time, then someone new will take them over and they'll give it another chance and a new batch of kids will do shows for a while until a couple of morons ruin it. Then the guys who are pleading innocence and "you didn't help us, so fuck you...we can ruin all the venues we want" will be giving shit to those little idiots.
It's the cycle of life and we should all just get used to it. - Sun, 6 May 2007 3:54pm
