Hi Guys,

So I picked up a copy of Arcade Fire's new one "Neon Bible" the other day. I have to say that I was very suprised by how great it was. Most bands' sophmore albums are over-rated pieces of junk - not this one. Tracks like "(Anarchist Television Blues)" and "Keep The Car Running" expand the band's genre into a more folk-esque style. I'd have to say that my favourite song on the new album is "No Cars Go". They released a version of this song on their debut EP many years back. On the EP it sounded rough and forgetable. On Neon Bible however, it captures the musical-urgency that this band can do so well (Think "Rebellion (Lies)" off of "Funeral"). Not to mention that the track also features a full Hungarian Orchestra - COOL!

NEON BIBLE vs. FUNERAL

We can all remember how well "Funeral" was recieved by indie-rock fans worldwide. Compared to "Funeral", I would have to say that "Neon Bible" is a much more solid album. Every single song on "Neon Bible" is worth listening to over and over again, where as there were some tracks on "Funeral" that jusst didn't get my attention. In conclusion, I would say that "Funeral" had better singles, but "Neon Bible is a better overall album.

Out of 10, this one gets a 9. So run down to A&B or HMV to get this album. (P.S. Don't waste your money on the deluxe edition - you don't get too much more)

Peace! - Fri, 30 Mar 2007 8:53pm

I'm more down with the band's freshman album...or maybe their undergrad album.

I haven't heard the album all the way through yet, just some songs here and there.

I thought the album before this was just OKAY, same with the EP.
So I figured that the AF was just decent... - Mon, 2 Apr 2007 5:25pm

Here here. "Second" is good. Either that or I start refering to my "sophmore" helping of rice-a-roni, or sophmore shit of the day, etc. Fierce unglamorous de-popularization of a grossly overused word. - Tue, 10 Apr 2007 10:14pm

Shameless marketing for whom? Some people actually really dig this album that much.

Me personally? I'll have to see them live again to have it win me over. - Fri, 13 Apr 2007 4:37pm

there's a weird phenomenon in music where some people can't think for themselves and have to rely on reading reviews to form their opinions. actually, it's not just in music, it's the same with world issues. a lot of people are just spewing out something they read or saw on tv, because they -think- they agree with it, because the person sounded intelligent or hip or whatever. this was posted by someone with a postcount of one. I wouldn't be suprised if larger labels are hiring people to go around to music community sites like this to sway people into this certain opinion. It's like paying people to clap a ton at movie or play premiers or whatever. maybe I'm wrong and it's just a fan, because this was just an idea, but look how he worded it. it sounds like a freaking advertisement. - Sun, 15 Apr 2007 10:41pm
