The second annual Noise! Festival is on for Saturday, May 31, 2003 here in Victoria, B.C., Canada so I am putting out the call for all like minded individuals who would like to take part. The festival is an all day, all ages event with both locals and out of towners making a ruckus for those willing to listen.

The roster is wide open for projects who would like to perform and though I cannot offer cash really I can supply a place to crash for out of towners and a decent PA system to play through. This year I am adding to the fray some video showings so I am also looking for submissions of visual material to show during this portion of the festival (we will be showing Zev Ashers' documentary on the Nihilist Spasm Band amongst other things). If you have anything related to offer (i.e. noise related films, live footage, cable access, etc.) please contact me via [email protected] for details on where to send your stuff. Likewise, noise making individuals and artists wanting to take part should drop me a line with the details or give me a ring up at (250) 360-0372.

So far we have participants confirmed from Victoria, Nanaimo, Vancouver and Seattle with more to come (interest has been shown from as far away as Toronto).

Keep you eyes on http://industrial.org/prmartyr.html for more details as they are hammered out. - Sat, 15 Feb 2003 8:32pm

Just to clarify since folks don't seem to get the references (industrial.org, Nihilist Spasm band, etc.), this is a "noise" themed festival. As in the genre of "noise", bands like Hermit, Aube, Richard Ramirez, Cock E.S.P., Borbetomagus, Noggin, etc. Other noisy or outside stuff like power electronics, death industrial, more extreme glitch material, (dark) ambient, electro-acoustic, environmental/found sound, microsound, etc. is also suitable.

Me I have an interview of the Nihilist Spasm Band from years ago on CFUV. It's only audio, but I'll get back to you on that. The interview also contains tracks that they do, mabye some that are hard to get. Mabye you could sample some of the interview? - Sun, 23 Feb 2003 7:32pm

Holy fuck! I haven't heard mention of Hermit in years! The first band i was ever in played a new years eve house party with them, it was one of the funnest shows I ever played (and probably the worst performance wise... But we played after a noise band so I dont think anyone cared)

The great randini still jams at the cambie here every once in awhile - Sun, 23 Feb 2003 10:19pm
