Is it just me or were the bouncers (specifically the one with the cowboy hat) at Lucky tonight (night of the Dwarves) a little harsh with their headlocks. I saw two people get thrown in headlocks and dragged, purple-faced out the door by the bouncer with the cowboy hat. I asked another bouncer at the end of the night if the guys who had been thrown in headlocks were all right and he said with a sly look on his face he had no idea what I was talking about.

One could argue, "Well, you have no idea what those guys did to deserve it." Yeah, I don't know, I've been to a lot of shows in my time and what I saw just looked pretty fuckin harsh. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 4:00am

Never met a bouncer in this town who wasn't a fucking goof asshole. Only the really brave, Victoria bouncers beat up people who are drunk. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 4:40am

never had or seen a problem at lucky... one of the few venues around town that I can actually speak that of. Unlike the other meat markets around town and/or *cough* red lion *cough*. I've also never had a problem with any of the security at lucky, so without passing to much assumption, i would have to say that who ever got "pulled out in a headlock, purple faced" probly did something to bother another patron at the bar. At least he didn't end up in the hospital, unlike other places with such "security". Anyhow, without starting too much trouble with this post, or anyone thiking im kissing lucky's ass(btw, i know absolutely none of the management there... tho i've played lots there in the past.)
I dont agree with the 'roid raging hells angels wannabe bouncers, but i also dont agree with drunks causing a rukus without consequence. I want to have a good time just as much as the next person and also dont want that good time ruined because some fuckface had 1 too many and decides to be an idiot... that doesn't fly. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 11:29am

All I know was what was infront of me and it looked quite nasty. Both times I was facing in the direction of what was going on and saw no cuffufle besides the cowboy hat bouncer going from behind and locking 2 different people by the head.

I've never actually seen "security" at Lucky before. I haven't gone there much since Ben left, but Ben's approach seemed to work well. He'd approach people in a calm manner and ask them to leave. Kinda like working with people. Unlike this cowboy guy who looked like he was out to tell the world how big of a man he is. He's bound to really hurt someone, despite them being drunk or not.

I don't like supporting places (like Lucky of all places??) that hire bullies. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 12:03pm Edited: Sat, 3 Mar 2007 12:04pm

Wow, what happened to warrant that bouncer to put people in a headlock?!? And I always thought that people who go to Lucky bar are a lot nicer then, say, people that go to Ev0lution. It sounds like the bouncer in a cowboy hat needs to be trained properly. I wonder if I know that bouncer?!? Things seem to have changed for the worse since I last went to that bar. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 1:07pm Edited: Sat, 3 Mar 2007 1:09pm

My health prevented me from attending last night. I've never seen trouble @ Lucky before. It's a tough call. I had an old roomate that I trained Karate with who worked at Hunter's back in the nineties. He used to come home every night totally pumped about kicking the crap out of drunk rugby players who didn't know when to lay down. So , if last night people were getting choked out the door, at least they weren't bleeding with broken cheek bones/noses.
Evollution seems to have decent door staff. Not that I really go that often.

Edit:; I've seen Ben do that before. I'd watch over him without him knowing, but everytime the people he would talk to would just leave. He is a cool guy, I miss him. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 1:11pm Edited: Sat, 3 Mar 2007 1:22pm

Saw a few people getting headlocked out the door.. one guy I saw them ask him to leave and he tried to blow off the bouncer and deke back into the crowd.. get what ya get.. bouncer asks you to leave, deking him into the crowd wont prevent the ejection!

Dwarves+Keg Killers+Booze+Punks.. surprised some people got out of hand drunk? I saw Mattlock fall on his ass about 12 times (godam he got heavy gutted over the years!) one time the bouncer ran over and realized he wasnt causin problems even though he was falling down drunk and left him alone.. - Sat, 3 Mar 2007 1:45pm

Fucken' Ben, what a guy!

Mace, your kind words warm my heart all the way over here in Red Deer.
I feel like I need to clear a few things up for you.
First, give credit where credit is due. I bought all the Pabst in the city. I'd hate to think you were harbouring some kind of crazy grudge against anyone else.
Second and this is much more important. I knew Jason for almost 20 years. We were very good friends and I was extremely saddened to hear about his passing. It was my decision to ask him to not come to Lucky anymore, I had that conversation with him and we came to an understanding and continued to be friends. So file that information into your head full of who has done who wrong in this world. If you are going to keep records they might as well be accurate.
I am coming to Victoria for a visit very soon so we could very easily talk about this in person if you wished. Also, I have an excellent medical plan out here so let me know if you would like me to bring out some of your medications which it seems like you can no longer afford.

PS. Hello to anyone else that cares. I hope to be out there sometime in April. - Mon, 5 Mar 2007 11:27am

Hope you're joking mace? But I know you have some vendetta that you harvest considering that you brought this up only after Bens name was posted.
First I've never seen any over the top bouncing going on at Lucky bar.
Could it happen? Forsure.
The reasons why? No idea.
But I've never seen them use excessive force, more like the force for the situation. Hey, shit happens and even bouncers can have a bad day. But we're talking about people drinking alcohol, so anything can happen.
I've stood outside with friends who were bouncers and had to help because the drunk/jerks friends who were drunk started to get involved. You try being a bouncer at a club with large crowds of drunks and see if you don't blow your top once in awhile. Freakin people are pulling things or destroying thing you‘d never hear or know about. So just remember that,

And

Hey Ben, this is Lance ( of Lance and Brenda, Long curly haired couple who were regulars) Good to see you’re doing great man! When you come to town let me know, we’d like to buy you a drink!

Cheers

Howdy Ben!

I've been to Red Deer and back, twice, in the last week I've been so busy lately on the road, that I actually forgot about Live Victoria (for a second or two..) Anyhow, I'm in Alberta so often that those whose credentials apply, would ultimately have me arrested if I go there, (that's probably why you kept me out of hanging out with 'The Spitfires' after they asked me to hang out. i can only think you mighta' been looking out 4 me..) but so far no problems and everything has been going smoothly.. No jail... Trial next week (date undisclosed for privacy's sake.. )It's nice to know that you're still around and actually the little puke coment I would know for you to take lightly, like that piss beer 'Pabst's' but I was only pissed off about that because, I wasn't really employed at the time, and then by that time, the 'Pabst's' was all gone, and there were a few of us kinda' choked.. Oh well, those were the days too.. And I have to agree that the Health Care System would be better in AB. because, they are bunch of greedy, Conservative, peons whose tax bracket is for the rich and riduculous.

I hope Ed Stalmach is voted out or run over, by some N.D.P. voter, and then the Province 86's the G.S.T. and implants a Provincial Sales tax like the rest. But you can only leave that up to the Fed's. to give credit where credit is actually due.

Seriously, I can't believed you moved to that part of the Country, I would've thought that you'd suit T.O. or Montreal.

Good 2 hear you're still around.

I went to the Cobalt for Jay's wake, I can't say enough about the guy myself..

L8r dude.
