Paul Spriggs was nice enough to lend me a copy, wow I was very impressed. They do a live set in the studios, the host of the program was impressed, but he screwed up the name of two of the tracks. They played: LoveLust, Nocturnal Serenade (slower version), Skies of Revelation, Crypts of Darkness. It's funny cause the sound was saturating the mics at CHEK-6 so the sound wasn't all that great (back in the days of analog, that's the best a local TV station could pull). Thumbs up!!! - Thu, 8 Feb 2007 1:22am Edited: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 1:25am

This I would LOVE to see.
Any chance on putting it up on youtube or the like? - Thu, 8 Feb 2007 10:49am

That's actually what I wanted to do, thing is what's a good application which takes and splits up uncompressed video/audio for use on YouTube?!? Hopefully the band (well who's still around) doesn't get mad I want to do that, even if it's a piece of local history (that I'm all for supporting!!!). I'm hopefully getting the tape transferred to DVD on Friday. - Thu, 8 Feb 2007 6:42pm Edited: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 6:43pm

I can potentially walk you through a few steps of the conversion. Contact me directly in email. As long as the DVD has its audio and video properly sync'd (something that is rarer than you think), it should be easy to continue.
.
Let me know when you get the DVD. I am putting in flooring all weekend, but in the evenings I can probably get it together.
.
Btw: 'Analog' has nothing to do with why the sound is shitty. Its much more likely the result of some piece of shit VHS taping from crappy TV source that is to blame. If this is a broadcast tape (unlikely since that would have been Beta Pro originally), then Shame on Chek6 for fucking it up.
.
You can ask MOC, but the band probably wont care so much about low quality footage being out there. They might be flattered to be sound in Youtube somewhere.
Why don't you share with them whatever you come up with and let them put upload the clip if they so wish?
.
.
With Youtube, start with the best piece you can make, then it gets compressed/converted WAY down and looks like shit anyway. However, everyone still loves Youtube... If the band ever had a quality video project, they will need to find the better version to do that.

Good point, I know how to extract audio/video from a DVD, I just need to find an editor which you can play with that chops pieces of video, sorta like loading up a WAV in WaveLab then splitting the audio up into pieces. Now I don't really know how to contact anyone from MoC. I somehow doubt Chek-6 still has the original broadcast tape, I heard somewhere they originally loved to use a tape ad infinitum for recording shows. Something to do with a budget (they used to do the same thing at Rogers Cable in Colwood). What video editor do you recommend people use? Too bad I couldn't find any Red Tide on video :(.

Vegas Video will do what you're talking about. Bittorent is all over that.

Why does it need editing at this point, does it have comercials and shit like that? Or is it a rough cut piece to begin with? - Fri, 9 Feb 2007 1:22am Edited: Fri, 9 Feb 2007 1:23am

Yes, it's such a rarity, thing is, I have to figure out how to copy video to YouTube first. It looks like I'll be learning something new with video editing tho'.

Why do I need to seperate the video?!? Seperate the songs for instance, usually people on YouTube upload video clips under 10 minutes, so for each song, I do a seperate clip. - Sat, 10 Feb 2007 12:26am Edited: Sat, 10 Feb 2007 12:30am

Yeah hopefully the audio and video will sync up - I am super stoked to eventually see this on youtube. Was it a soundboard recording? I sure don't expect any Bob Rock production. At a cable program? What was the name of the show?

/M.O.C., along with the Neos, were as far as I'm concerned Victorias first coolest bands. Yeah - there was Nomeansno and the Dayglos, along with scads and scads of other groovy Victoria bands, but the first two bands I mentioned (as well as Red Tide, and then later, Debt of Nature, and then a bit after that, Jonas - which eventually rounded out the 90's for me) seemed to play with shitloads more ferocity and edge, which, to this hombre, is at the heart of all this underground kinda stuff.

The program is "The Beat Goes On", Chek-6 used to have a local band program, this is before Much Gype (err... Much Music) was on cable. I still don't get why Chek-6 doesn't do a similar program these days. - Sat, 10 Feb 2007 12:18pm

"The Beat Goes On" was a short lived program on Chek 6 that showcased local bands by letting them play a few of their songs live in the studio. Along with M.O.C. bands like the Revolvers and The Bedspins (pre-Bum and at this time featuring the late Ken Jensen of Red Tide on drums) were given the opportunity to document their music. The sound quality of said recordings are generally mediocre at best but it was a good representation of what was going on at the city musically at the time. Shame that Chek didn't have the vision to archive this stuff for future viewing. - Sat, 10 Feb 2007 12:43pm

How long is the piece griph? (all together I mean) There are options that don't require cutting it down like Youtube requires. Its pretty easy to split it up a bit as well, but its often better when you don't have to.
.
Why doesn't Chek6 do such a program now? There is less than NO money in it. - Sat, 10 Feb 2007 5:38pm

I just played with Vegas, FUCKIN' AMAZING!!! What I had to do (for those that care), first convert the DVD to MPEG using DVD-To-MPEG v2.0. Once that's been converted you load up the RAW MPEG thru Vegas, now it gets cool. You highlight what part of the video you wish to grab, then Render to New Track (Ctrl-R). It's funny, I did the first track, then completely fergot what I did to save the highlighted video, so I ended up getting frustrated for 10 minutes until I figured it out by fluke. I like the Vegas environment, but it's too bad I don't have more video to work with. Still, at my age I LOVE learning new applications. Once I preview the tracks when I'm awake, I can upload these to MySpace for all to view and comment (it would be interesting to see how the process works) and I'll post the links in the web section. *crossing fingers* - Sat, 17 Feb 2007 3:50am Edited: Sat, 17 Feb 2007 4:20am

Vegas is pretty cool, no doubt about it. That interface is the same reason why I use SoundForge, they are very similar...

Dont forget to try CD Architect and DVD Architect. The best burning/authoring programs ever. I'm very glad that Sony hasn't fucked them up yet since they purchased the company.

Oh hey. Problem... seems there's a tape hiss (I wonder where that's coming from?), I've probably overlooked something. Here are the times:

Lovelust - 3:25
Nocturnal Serenade - 4:39
Skies of Revelation - 4:30
Crypts of Darkness - 2:15

I wish I knew how to filter the hiss out, cause it's easy to get rid of in Steinberg Clean. The video was a rush job anyways.

Yeah I know, it works then it doesn't. Try it again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1aJMhpL0jU - Mission of Christ - Lovelust - Sat, 17 Feb 2007 12:38pm Edited: Sat, 17 Feb 2007 3:10pm

Well if you know how to get ahold of them, then they could get ahold of me about it. I figured that people would be interested in seeing the footage. I can always delete the footage if I've accidently stepped on there toes. I'm hoping it'll work this time, I had a few people beta testing the link, seems to work now. The links are:

How come it shows up in Faux-letterbox? Its aspect ratio is all strange. Probably need to tell Vegas that it is a 4:3 program. - Wed, 21 Feb 2007 10:19am Edited: Wed, 21 Feb 2007 10:19am

I dunno, I doubt Sony Vegas did that, it could of been from running a non-registered version of DVD2Mpeg. I actually like the letterbox, cept one of the videos makes it look really shitty. The people don't look short and fat to you? Letterbox isn't an effect, it's either a necessary or unnecessary thing depending on the original content, and depending on the destination medium. For this product, both are firmly 4:3.

Thanks for putting that stuff up Griphin.

Like Daryl, MOC is/was/will-always-be one of my faovrite local bands ever.

It's also cool to see my amp head and cab behind the glorious Kev Smith in those clips.

Actually, if you look at the source files, it actually looks a lot better then it did on YouTube. Then again, if you really wanted I could duplicate the DVD and mail it to ya or make an excuse to head out to Sooke with it. Oh yeah, I keep forgetting Kev was in that band, then again I never did get along with Kev. The one thing I didn't put on YouTube, there's a DOA video after the MoC footage (the video that was filmed at Chek-6). - Wed, 21 Feb 2007 11:46pm Edited: Wed, 21 Feb 2007 11:51pm

Nice job Phil! Good to see the footage after all these years. Definitely one of the best bands if not the best band to ever come out of the garden city. Funny to see Mike stalking around the studio stage with no live audience to feed off. - Wed, 21 Feb 2007 11:52pm

Nice work man, good to see the old days.
I still have that old BC Rich of McBeans he is using in those vids, I think Randy used it in Atrosity too.
