I have to say that that was a crappy show, mickey christ was good, but assertion and the other one sucked. Kinda reminded me off that first all ages show at soundgarden, except worse - Sun, 9 Feb 2003 9:03pm

Micky Christ kicked ass (although I was hoping for a Ramones cover or two but they still kicked ass). The same cannot be said for The First Day. I found them to be quite boring and uninspired. I only caught a few songs from Assertion and thought that they were alright... much better than The First Day. Perhaps Micky Christ should have ended that show, so as to finish things with a band that actually rocks. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 12:50am

Strange, I found First Day to be one of the tightest, most technical hardcore bands that I have seen or heard in recent memory. I saw them at the bar show, but that shouldn't have made any difference. Micky and Assertion were great too, but First Day stole the show in my opinion. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 1:00am

I've seen, and played a few shows with the First Day, and there are very few musicians that I know out there that can do what those guys do. Everyones got different tastes I guess, but those guys are awesome musicians and if you cant see that your blind or deaf or something. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 1:46am
Anonymous agreed, ty. these kids were at the all-ager, i take it...so ya it's ageism, but they're young and dumb. assertion rocked my fuckin world, too. all the touring they've been doing has certainly paid off. all the bands were definately in top-form sat. night. bry has an absessed tooth and a sinus infection, so he wasn't feeling so hot today, and he still blew my mind. cheers to queers. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 1:47am
Anonymous funny, the first day and assertion are two bands from van that always draw a crowd there. i guess here it's not about the talent, it's about the hype and the punk points. "oh, they can play well and don't have mohawks? they aren't punk enough for me" the first day weren't even on the poster!! - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 2:41am

First Day wasn't on the poster, but wasn't that a last minute thing?!? - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 3:29am
Anonymous nope, they'd been on the bill since last month....oh well. just a shame cuz they are a super-good band, well-established in van, and they rarely play over here. who knows when they'll be back. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 3:47am

That's right. No mohawks means bad band. Fuck talent. Seriously though I just didn't find the First Day to be very interesting. Assertion seemed like much better musicians (from what I saw). - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 9:49am
Devotchka Micky Crist totally kicked ass. I really enjoy their shows. I agree with Fraser that while First Day were good musicians but I didn't think they were outstanding. Assertion were great! They made my day when the coverd "Love will tear us apart". I would defenently see them again. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 10:39am
Anonymous FDay only confirmed the wknd before, and then only the Sat night - they were worried about the Sun show cuz of needing to get back in time for work. If these bands (FD & A) haven't impressed you, I'd say see them again to make sure. they insist on playing so fast & technical that if they slop out even a touch, the song can fall like a house of cards. Gotta hand it to them for pushing themselves every show, never just playing it safe. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 3:01pm

Does First Day/Assertion have a demo out?!? - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 7:46pm
Anonymous http://www.thefirstday.ca and http://www.assertion.ca (both have mp3's worth listening to on their sites - the FD ones are killer!)
FD have a 2 yr old cd and A have a new full length called Powerless. I think both have been recording lately too.

Chad from Assertion was in Karen Foster before and ALL the KF tracks are on the new music canada website for download. I don't know what sudden death was thinking with that one... anyway, Subsidy for Love's a great song. - Mon, 10 Feb 2003 8:45pm
