Two come to mind that even for Free Food I am sure I would not go to ! (Sorry if you work there just based on my/our experiences)

WHITE SPOT- Wow why do people go here... Had several bad experiences in a row... I go out for lunch with my Mom- where do they sit us after ignoring us at the front counter for awhile- Right near the screaming kids section under bright halogen lights...I asked to move and they did move us... It was a quiet time so its not like that was the only seat the restaurant was dead...and because I never learn my lessons I went back again a few weeks later and essentially the same thing happened... Third Strike- I was passing through Colwood with the GirlFriend and we stopped there...Everybooth was empty and the they next to a Guy and his kid at a table.... - Sat, 28 Oct 2006 1:57am

Two of the worst restaurants I have either worked in or eaten at are Plutos and Kelseys. I wouldn't advise consuming anything from Plutos. Just go to floyds instead. But make sure you don't sit in Frasiers section. He's an idiot. As far as Kelseys, I have seen meat with quite a bit of a green tinge make it to the grill. These are a bunch of kids who don't give a shit about food or the fact that someone will actually be paying for this shit so why the fuck would they care. Honorable mentions go to Palmers in Oak Bay, and noodle box. They gotta learn how to cook seafood. - Sun, 29 Oct 2006 11:23am

Cafe Mexico. Not because of the food, but because the service was shit. I waited an hour to get my food, though the waitress was all like "any minute now". Then after an hour I asked her why it was taking so long and she said they had forgotten my order. So, I waited around for another 30 minutes and then just left the place. Never going back there again that's for sure. I didnt' want a burrito anways. Ay caramba. - Sun, 29 Oct 2006 6:33pm

Oh yeah, and this horrible world-dominating restaurant you are all familiar with- Mcdonald's. Their dare I call it "food" is absolutely disgusting. If I ask anyone why they chose to go to Mcdonalds, they always say "I went there when I was a kid!'. I think it's hideous how they have the whole "playplace" thing and all, and "Happy Meals" to lure the younger crowd into becoming lifelong customers. Sick. - Sun, 29 Oct 2006 6:38pm

Hmmm I love the Cafe Mexico too, the food rocks and I've never had a problem with the service and I've been going for years.

The Brass Duck...I went there once and ordered a eggs benny, I swear to god the waiter forgot to put in my order cause when I reminded him he had that face like "oh Shit"
not 4 minutes later he brought out this dish that somewhat resembled eggs benny....if your blind.
He put 2 slices (untoasted) of whole wheat bread on it with two eggs (fried) and a thimble full of hollandaise on each egg, and to give it that extra pizazz he put bacon bits on top!
I am not the type of guy who complains at restaurants very often because I consider myself lucky to have the good fortune and benefit of eating in the first place.
However, when I am ripped off or blantantly served garbage food I will complain.

Speaking of being ripped off...SPICE JAMMER, rip off central. 15.95 for a small dish of sauce and a 6oz chicken.
Rice is extra, bread is extra. The chicken was so overcooked the sauce did it no justice.
That was my first and last time at that place. - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 8:17am Edited: Mon, 30 Oct 2006 8:19am

Took a look inside their kitchen once, and it reminded me of the days when I worked at Coffee Mac's (R.I.P.)... absolutely horrifying...

Montana's...

Went there a while back with my ex... she ordered halibut, and was served salmon... when we complained, they insisted is really was halibut and I ended up telling the manager in front of all his customers that he was either a liar or a retarded monkey...

As for the best in town.... I'm surprised no one has mentioned John's place yet.... you want eggs benny?... check them out, absolutely awesome... and their Thai nights make me drool just to think about them...

How bad was the food poisoning I got from The Ol' Spaghetti Factory? So bad I was shitting and hurling at the same time. Never again.
Everytime I go to Cafe Mexico, I get the feeling that $10 for beans, rice, flour tortilla and a few specks of meat isn't a good deal.
Cup O' Joe's was good, before they moved and became Floyd's Diner. Floyd's took the goodness with them and all the shitty elements of restaurants were left at the James Bay location.
Denny's has the worst "nachos" ever. Chips with sour cream piled on top and grease saturating the chips. Odd because there is no meat or cheese to be found on them.
ABC has the worst staff to represent an eating establishment ever. Mind you, if I was sad enough to work there, I'd never lift a finger either.
Siam was similar to Cafe Mexico in that the $13 five tiny pieces of meat just didn't do the trick. Add to that $3 extra if you want rice (mind you still not enough to fill one up) and the ignorant service (bring out two meals for half the party first, then the other two meals 15 minutes later), and you have a place worthy of being fire-bombed.
The Noodle Box was put up by everyone I know who likes food. Of course, when a place is hyped so much it is bound to disappoint. I ordered the Southest something or other ginger egg noodle with prawns. Sounds like heaven for the discerning masticator on paper. I got this and it fucking tasted like dirt. The kind of dirt from when you wipe out and land face first in a pile of well-travelled bike track dirt. The prawns were big though!
As for White Spot, they continue to get my business strictly for the Double Double burger and good fries.
Also, I don't recall there ever being halibut on Montana's menu. I do recall salmon and some sort of budget white fish, however. Best bet is to stick to beef and chicken at an outback cookhouse.
Man, there are a lot of lame restaurants in Vic. I'll be adding more as they are recalled. - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 6:31pm Edited: Mon, 30 Oct 2006 6:37pm

Any of u whippersnappers old enought to remember
FOODY GOODY? - ha more like "CATTY BADDY". I saw a

20l pail onto the salad bar platter. man the sloppy noise it made and how it looked - i will never forget - a real
low point in ones epicurean travails. Or the plate wells
at the end of the buffets - full of hidden treasures down
at the bottom - people, those areas are to be spotlessly
clean! Victoria has one of the highest resident to restraunt seat ratios in the world. I would say that easily
75% of the restraunts in Vic are fast food or one step above, but there are also some truly great ones too. A few
of my favourites are, Paprika Bistro, Chez Michael, Brasseie L'ecole, Il Terazzo, Herald st Cafe, cafe Bio,
Zambri's. Look to he smaller ones for high quality. - Mon, 30 Oct 2006 8:19pm

I have had some bad meals in my time but what really ticks me off is poor service. If you are a waiter, or waitress, I care not how beautiful you are, you do not need to be a dink. You are not better than anyone else and you are there to SERVE, not SHOW OFF.

Bad Attitudes:
Earls - great food, stuck up servers
Maude's - some of Victoria's most stuck up witches on the planet serve here. Plan on eating one hour after you arrive. If you're not drinking beer, plan on being ignored.
Boston Pizza - plan on being ignored
Canoe Club - lots of waiting
Six Mile - snotty in a whorish way
Sticky Wicket - they'll serve you providing you're drinking.

Bad Food:
Kelsey's, ABC, Wings, Old Spaghetti Factory, Boston Pizza, Canoe Club, Milestones, man I could go on forever.

PS Foodie Goodie rumoured to be closed down due to (Surprise!) Re-using food. Its a buffet, you can't finish your last plate, you leave, plate goes back to the kitchen and food is scraped off into new serving bowls which are eventually placed back onto the buffet. - Tue, 31 Oct 2006 2:16pm

REBAR - Been here a few times. First experience was pretty good... second time was there for lunch with family. The server poured us water as they do at every table.

On their front counter they had rows of jugs filled with water. They normally always filled up the glasses. However, one table of people left and had half full glasses that they drank out of. The server came to that table, took their glasses and emptied them into his water jug, where he later used to fill up other people's glasses.

I will not go here again after witnessing such service.

Worst sushi I've had in town: Toku Sushi.
The rice is hard and has a strange sweetness to it that is definitely not rice wine vinegar. Plus their fish is expired.
Uncle Willy's, besides the bland, sick food has potential for people to fuck around with the food and then put it back...like that time with the Jell-O and ashtray. The "cream" on top was so petrified that it was removable in one piece. Not sure what happened, but I always look closely at buffet food before eating it ever since then.

I just read a horrible review of Taj Mahal. Apparantly an east indian restaurant critic went to review said rest. Upon arrival they were treated like absolute shit and forced to wait for a table while there were about 9 tables open. When they were finally seated, they ordered some items cooked in the tandoor. They waited an hour while watching white customers being served food almost upon arrival. When the critic asked what was taking so long, the water flat out told him that they had just shut down the tandoor for they evening. Outraged, the critic asked the waiter if he was pakistani. The waiter replied yes and just walked away. The critic was left speechless to say the least and promptly left with his companion.

ugh, this is one of the grossest threads EVER!
Personally, I'd like to be able to call a hotline where you can get authorities to make immediate 911 drop-ins for all those places that handle money, then food, without gloves or washing. And washing's not good enough when you just rinse, then dab your hands on a dirty rag.

Lately I've had higher standards about the manner in which my food is served. If they're grouchy pricks and I can't charm them out of it, I kinda feel like my food is cursed or something and try not to go there again, even if its just an over-the-counter deal.

i worked at the Garlic rose for about a week... then decided to quit to keep someones death off of my conscience. First of all, the night cooks were bringing out their raw meats - duck, lamb, hamburgers, chicken, etc... - and setting them up in the SAME PAN for the night... at room temperature. Then there was the floor manager - yelling at the servers and demeaning them in front of the customers, which is totally unacceptable. Either the food was going to kill someone, or i was going to kill the floor manager. Happily, i might add.
Incidentally, I worked at Coffe Macs when I was nineteen-ish, and all the customers complained that the food was shit, but they came every night. It wasn't bad, and the kitchen was clean.

I'd avoid the subway at fort and belmont at all costs. It's bad enough that they try and give you the end pieces of the veggies that you're supposed to throw away and they shit a brick if you ask to have more than one napkin (especially if that guy that looks like Fez is working) but twice I found hair in my food (both while Fez was making subs) and two other people who worked in the near by area told me they got the same health code violations. as far as bars go, it's a little known fact that to properly clean an ice machine takes around two days...that is two days out of service. It must be defrosted, pulled apart and the drip evaporator try at the bottom must have all that yummy black mold scraped off of it, then be put back together and finally refrosted. unless a full time bar has two of these things, you can bet your ass it is almost never done. most of the time the rule is to not take ice from the bottom. I've seen bartenders throw the citrus garnish on top of the clump of black shit in someones drink so they didn't notice... and they didnt. - Mon, 6 Nov 2006 2:08pm

I got One Tip.

Dont eat at Uncle Willy's.. I used to work there for a year as a cook. And i am gonna tell u a little story about the owner. His Name Is Karn. And he has this big as growth on his foot. Dead Flesh....dead skin and its like a big calis. But anywho. He sits at his Desk which is like 10 feet from the actual kitchen and he will pick and pick at it and You see him picking the flakes off and sometimes it bled. But the best part was he would limp over to his station..which was Curries of course. and The main food like Veggies and Meat. and He wouldnt wash his hands. He would just handle the food. I never once saw him wash his hands, not once did he use sanitizer. I have been cooking for 6 years and i have never seen something that disqusting other than that dumbass kid who shat in the washroom and smeared it all over the walls and left huge piles of it all over the floor.

and thats my story :P - Thu, 9 Nov 2006 10:00pm Edited: Thu, 9 Nov 2006 10:01pm

This thread can't die, I'm learning so much.

I'd add to the list-

TAPAS BAR. Yes, the charming place in Trounce Alley. Cool atmosphere I suppose, but the food was shit. Peppercorns floating in ass sauce is not my idea of an enjoyable meal. And my date's meal was worse, some greasy chicken bits in runny unflavour broth. Fukk you, tap-ass.

Next-

SMITTY'S. Obvious choice, really. WHY DO PEOPLE FREQUENT THIS PLACE? When they try to include one of everything on their 8 page menu; you know it's gonna be hard to offer anything quality. I'd have thought breakfast would be hard to fukk up, but no, apparently the rejects working in the kitchen there can't cook a goddamn egg. I guess I didn't specify I'd like that breakfast both HOT and COOKED. Assholes.

Special nod to THE GORGE POINTE PUB. They tried to serve me undercooked chicken wings. When it was pointed out to the waitress, she tried to convince me that they were in fact cooked. First of all, don't argue with a customer. Secondly, I am at a point in my life where I know what raw chicken looks like. Pink/red innards = UNDERCOOKED!

That's all for now. - Thu, 9 Nov 2006 10:10pm

And You dont serve shit like this or ur gonna have someone sue your ass. Its illegal to serve Ground Beef or hamburger beef Raw or not cooked. So he said was cooked....i Said "NO" and he went and got me a new one and gave me a free meal. I also used to work for Dine-In, and the worst I saw was at Pagliacci's - raw chicken, uncovered, knee height in the dirty hallway at room temperature. Eww. It's things like this that help me avaoid meat in general.
I also don't understand why Floyd's is so popular. I have given them so many chances. I had eggs and a bagel and the bagel was covered in grease. As were the scrambled eggs. Like they had poured oil over them. They even managed to screw up a Greek Salad. It was an entire green pepper, half a red onion and some tomato and shitty field cucumber. Then the Veggie Sandwich with three pieces of thick dry bread, even though it doesn't mention it in the menu. It's jusy not good food people!

Ruddfuckers, the place of my first job. Was there six months before the close down? Something like that.

First, there was a serious mouse problem. There were traps all over the kitchen, backroom and store room. Wasn't really helping. Corporate headquarters sent in the district managers because we were going to "close for fumigation" because of the mouse problem. Serial numbers of coke machines were being taken, they set up a second office for themselves in a small store room. Safe went missing and we were told it was in their office. They stopped ordering food because we were closing down for a week. All of us knew something fishy was going on. Last night before closing the doors for "fumigation", they still hadn't told the staff. Staff quit working 1/2 hour before close until management would come clean. They did so. With a promise of helping us find new jobs, we all worked and helped pak up the store. Closed it's doors, hid it's assets.....

That's what happened to Fuddruckers.

Now it's a kick ass BCL. - Tue, 28 Nov 2006 8:50pm Edited: Tue, 28 Nov 2006 8:51pm

Yeah, Maria's and Sabhai are both really good, albeit quite different in price, scope and all that. But both really good. Sidney has more restaurants than it has a right to and quite a few are good -- Captain's Table (or whatever they call it now) has always been good, and Carlo's Cafe (the new little mexican place) is actually VERY good, well priced and good portions. The owner is a funny little guy who runs around handing our menus all the time, but don't let that put you off :) The chef is actually mexican, so that's a plus!

There are some decent cafe type places too - Red Brick has always been good and they are really nice in there.. Cafe Med is good, and Stonestreet Cafe - and of course Big Moo's for ice cream and 50's related decor. The Blue Peter is good too, but only their pub side - the restaurant side is horribly overpriced and snobby, but the servers in the pub are great.

Odyssia is not bad, but the owner screamed like a maniac at my wife because she works in the same little complex and didn't realize that it was "his" recycling bin. He actually made her cry. So we don't go there anymore. - Fri, 22 Dec 2006 9:22am

i would like to say a few really good restaurants...cause lots of restaurants are bad so i'm going to say the ones i think are good:

best chinese food: j&j wonton noodle house (really really really good. i had better chinese food ONCE in my life when i was in montreal...other than that this is totally the best!)

best thai food: siam (i don't know what dude was talking about earlier, siam is a classic...totally good food, good service, decent prices...better than anywhere else i've been in town)

best italian food: il teratzo

best french food: brasserie l'ecole

best fast food: noodle box (i agree that sometimes it's not so good when lot's of people are chillin, but as far as fast food goes it really doesn't get much better than this.)

best sushi: place next to siam on fort...i forget what it's called right now

best breakfast: the blue fox cafe (GREAT huevos rancheros)

notable mentions: mole is ok...but it's gone downhill for sure...same with johns place

i also just want to say that floyds is a dissapointment to me...i don't get it...the food just isn't good and the menu sucks...and it has no real good atmosphere...i dunno...the people are nice but i just don't really see what's so great about it. - Sat, 23 Dec 2006 12:47am

Floyd's is lax, as in staff. I don't like to feel some urban hippy waiter is looking at me like he's known me his entire life. And where all the left-wingers go on Sunday, to look like they 'belong' somewhere, other than Church- maybe like they're "Artist" types or something...
wOooOoo you're so cool, you eat at Floyd's on Sunday- oh, (Omg-wow, who wrote that on the wall, they are so witful in spite of everything in life, I feel like I'm at a mid-mountain ski lift restaurant?!).. because for the line-up wait- I think I'll be prefering to stand in line at "Timmy's" instead. Look at some mormon dressed minimum wage earners, who don't make tips, and yet seemingly have much more personality than the lax staff at Floyd's... - Sat, 23 Dec 2006 5:20pm

Worst:
Wings: (dunno how I used to eat there.. ordered some delivery few weeks ago, and more than half of it went in the garbage (and I very RARELY throw out take out food)

Raymonds: (another place whos meal hit the trash)

Uncle Willies: (havent eaten there in years, yet I continue to hear horror stories)

Fountain: (more bad chinese food! I used to like this place, and Jade Fountain(same owners I think?), but last few times the foods just been plain horrible.)

Good places:
Grocery Plus (odd little chinese take out place inside a corner store, but pretty good food, been going there for over 6 years now)

Sook Jai Thai (damned good thai food, love the Phad thai)

Little Thai Place (actually most of the thai places I've tried have been pretty good.. although twice when going to little thai they left me waiting for a pretty long time for my food.. once my food was even ready, but no one bothered to tell me, even though I was sitting there looking at the people, finally had to go up and ask about it, looked like it had been sitting there 20 min waiting for me) - Sun, 21 Jan 2007 6:47am

I've been away from Victoria for 4 months now, and these are the restaurants I've been jonesing for the most:

1. Hernande'z. I will feast on scores of bean tacos.
2. Shine cafe. Best breakfast in town, if you're one of the 3 people they have room for.
3. Sabri. Give me all your dal. Also all your naan. Also charge me $10 for the three plates of food I have eaten.
4. Ferris'. All around good eatin'.
5. Mama Linda's. Best delivered pizza in town.

All the places I hate have already been mentioned, though it's good to hear Cup of Joe's might be getting good again. Some of the food nightmares we've had here in our 20 odd months living here...
Cafe Mexico- Food was good, but damn, what makes a waitress think it's acceptable to just let people sit with no drinks. literally couldnt find her.
pizza factory- had been working out of town all week. got home and decided to call for pizza and watch the canucks game. was told 45 minutes. after 75 minutes, I call, and the girl says I told you it would be longer(!) and tries to get me off the phone. I ask for the manager. She tries to convince me not to talk to him, but I insist. The manager sounds apologetic, and says theyre shorthanded. He tells me he is taking my pizza out of the oven as we speak, and it will be there in just a few minutes (we live about a 5 minute drive from their location). Another half hour goes by. I am pissed. I call them up and tell them to just cancel the order. The manager freaks out and goes "I am just boxing your pizzas up right now! Dont you want them?" I said "you totally lied to me, you said they were heading out the door half an hour ago, which was already a half hour late." "he goes "DONT EVER CALL HERE AGAIN!!! YOURE BANNED!!!!"
Why is it so bloody hard to get good pizza that you dont need a bloody loan to pay for in this town lol
As a former Denny's cook, I would advise people not to eat ANYTHING there, except some of the basic breakfast items. It is as far removed from actual cooking as you can possibly get.

Just off the top of my caffeine addled thoughts...
Alzu's didnt impress me... villages pizza had a nasty next day reaction involving grabbing your ankles and getting all religious...
other than that, havent had too many bad experiences

Most of the fellow workers were fine and Dino never was bad to me personally but Maria the Kitchen Manager was a horrible evil woman and John was great until she came along and ruined his life then he became a head case too so I quit. Ya Dino has stopped caring about the restaurants now I think. All he did when I worked there was chain smoke and get drunk on shiraz in his office. A few of the cooks digusted me with stories of actually dropping pizza crusts on the never clean floor and using them anyways (usually after spitting on them and smoothing it over like sauce), the mouse problem is way out of hand, I used to find dead flies in the bar liquor and was told to just strain them out so customers wouldn't see them when we were mixing drinks. "Noodle Soup" type of dish and that looked awesome. "Vegetable Soup" I think it what I heard...

Would you like Rice with that, should not result in a small dish of sticky rice being added to the bill $1.00 for white , $2.oo for brown... For the cost and small size of the main courses I would totally expect rice to be included.

This restaurant is not as good as "The Noodle Box" for me, but could be way better if I knew what to order of the menu - Sun, 4 Mar 2007 8:11pm

Shaggy reminded me of my experience at Szechuan on Caledonia across from the cop shop. The guy who seated us was a fucking rude cocksucker. He refused to let us sit where we wanted even though the restaurant was empty. No tip, asshole. He had a big weeping wound on his wrist weakly covered with gauze. He prepared the food and brought it out to us. Difficult to stomach. The egg foo young was actually really good. Nice unidentified sauce on it...possibly rotten pus from his wound? The rest of the food was wet and slippery and very salty. Not really to my liking. I won't go back. - Wed, 7 Mar 2007 5:23pm Edited: Wed, 7 Mar 2007 5:25pm

Damn! That Szechwan place across from the cop shop used to be awesome, it sounds like a dive now. Ewww …open gaping wounds on your server/cook and sloppy puss enhanced dishes , yum yum ! Think I may have burped up some bile just typing that . I may get nightmares just driving by the place now. The way I judge a good Chinese food place is by how many Asians are actually eating there. I've noticed that with Fountain on Hillside, the place is half full and the food sucks now. There used to be like 30 dishes . Spice, sweet, seafood TONS, and this awesome Guy who greeted you at the door (the owner I think ?) who was always real friendly. Now they have white girls serving you, now come on …. White girls serving in a good Chinese food restaurant? I don’t think so. Try Foo hongs, been going there since I was a kid. Allergic 13-year-old dies after eating burrito
A drug that might have saved Carley Kohnen's life was in her locker at school
Cindy Harnett, CanWest News Service
Published: Tuesday, April 03, 2007
ESQUIMALT - A 13-year-old girl has died after she had a severe allergic reaction to a burrito. The drug that might have saved her life was in her school locker.

Carley Kohnen, with allergies to a number of foods including dairy and peanuts, ordered a burrito and a doughnut from the Hillside mall food court on Thursday. According to her parents, she was told her food was free of the proteins to which she was deadly allergic.

The only child of Chris Kohnen, 56, and Brenda, 47, then went to Summit Park with her friends and soon went into anaphylactic shock and fell unconscious.

Chris Kohnen holds a picture of his daughter, Carley Kohnen, 13.
Darren Stone, CanWest News Service

She ate it and about 30 minutes after playing, that was it," said Chris Kohnen Monday. "I always had this fear. Up until a few years ago, she was with us 24/7."

By 4:05 p.m. she was in distress and her friends called 911. Bystanders rushed to her aid and paramedics worked feverishly for about an hour to revive the girl, according to the coroner's office. She was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m.

"It's sudden and unexpected, but not unnatural death," said coroner Rose Stanton.

The bubbly teen was a Grade 8 student at Lansdowne Middle School. She played everything from soccer to field hockey and maintained good grades, her parents said. She knew she should always carry her EpiPen -- a needle holding the life-saving drug epinephrine -- but she didn't have it with her that day.

Chris Kohnen said you can't put your children in a bubble, and can only educate them as much as possible and hope for the best. "But death to them isn't real. They're indestructible and think it will never happen to them."

Her parents told her to never try a new food without gaining permission from them first. Throughout Carley's young life her parents had hauled chefs and bakers out from their kitchens to assure them her food was free of dairy, peanut or egg. They read every package that went into making her food.

But in the end, even their best efforts couldn't protect her. Carley was a teenager, said her parents, and she longed to eat the same foods others kids enjoyed.

About two per cent of the population is at risk for anaphylactic reactions and about 50 people die in Canada from such episodes each year.

Dr. Peter Lee, an immunologist and allergist, said that number may sound small compared to the number who die from heart attacks or cancer each year, but those 50 deaths are "totally preventable" and more tragic for that reason, he said.

"It just shouldn't happen at all," Lee said.

Having suffered from allergies and asthma since eight months old, Carley took preventative medication each day for asthma and was heavily monitored. But Carley had recently suffered fewer allergic episodes and perhaps became a bit complacent, her father said.

Her asthma could have contributed to the severity of her allergic reaction Thursday, according to health professionals.

Margaret Eastman, a clinical nurse for asthma and allergies working at Victoria General Hospital, stressed Monday that anyone with severe food allergies should always read food labels, carry an EpiPen with them, and instruct family, friends, and close contacts how to supervise or give an emergency injection.

People with such allergies should also wear medical bracelets or necklaces, she said.

The girl's grandmother, Winifred, who lived with the family, said Carley had a lot of friends and a bubbly personality. "She was always happy, she was a real spitfire."

Brenda Kohnen is retired from Scotiabank. Chris Kohnen was supposed to be enjoying his first official day of retirement Monday -- having worked as branch manager for HSBC finance in Gateway Village. Instead he was driving back and forth to the funeral home and writing his daughter's obituary.

Above all else, the girl's grieving mother wanted to tell parents: "Hug your child today, and tell them you love them."
