I would of posted about where you can find a website to learn guitar, but if I wanted that I'd take lessons at Long and McQuade (though the $20 per hour charge I cannot afford, blame disability, where's that Guitar For Dummies book :). So yeah, tricks would be awesome, not like I'd ever be in a band, cause well, what's the point?!? - Fri, 1 Sep 2006 11:18am Edited: Fri, 1 Sep 2006 11:19am

Well you need to be in a band first... I doubt I could be in a band, so I give up, it's a nice idea though. And what's wrong with recording at home and pulling a Dave Grohl by doing everything by yourself?!? - Fri, 1 Sep 2006 3:30pm Edited: Fri, 1 Sep 2006 8:59pm

Griphin, I hate to be blunt about it, but you need to do these three things:
(It's also like a Palindrome, you can do it in either direction)

1. Pick up any guitar and play *anything* for an hour every-fucking-day. (no exceptions)
1a: Play along with any record you want. Use the same record every day until you can even come close to copying the riff. Don't ever stop, just do it.

2. Contact some young punks via Livevic and introduce that song to them.

3. Have fun.

Lather Rinse and Repeat. (Always Repeat)

99.9% of bands are ultimately not uber-serious affairs, but rather an excuse to have fun (Oh ya, and CHICKS like KnifeGhost already pointed out)

Its not as difficult as you think, and it would do wonders for your self-esteem. I don't believe your disability has shit to do with your reluctance to playing an instrument. - Fri, 29 Sep 2006 7:51pm Edited: Fri, 29 Sep 2006 8:38pm

I doubt it, see I was enthusiastic before the assault in wanting to start a band, but nobody wanted to be in a band with me. (I was interesting in doing that Pistols tribute) Now I admit, after I got out of hospital I couldn't play the guitar, but since then I've been able to play just as shitty as I did before. I realized that even if I could play, it's not worth playing in front of anyone. Yes I got fedup with the scene thanks, and I'll just play at home from now on. I mean I could bitch about it, but I need to actually play the guitar first, then I have a reason to bitch all the time about something that would never happen.

I know it's worth jamming with people (good therapy?!?) but who the hell actually wants to jam with me?!? It's pointless to get me to jam now, cause well I have better things to do, like sleep. I can't even hang around with bands that jam anymore. - Sat, 30 Sep 2006 10:23am Edited: Sat, 30 Sep 2006 4:00pm

My recommendation still stands. You are obviously depressed and also deluding yourself with a bunch of other self-defeating bullshit. You need some perspective and how. You should also tell your doctor that (almost) total strangers are expressing concern.

Read my disclaimer at the end, but listen closely for now:

Nothing says you need to play in front of people, except perhaps the other band members. There is no 'Point' to playing live if you catch my drift, and no reason why you have to make one up. Not everyone gets to play live, and some people like you are not capable (or willing) anyway. Also, nothing stops you from making music all by yourself, EXCEPT your current dis-inclination to make any music at all. Do you not see the problem here? Your reason for not 'doing it' is not the same as the one you normally give, its something else alltogether.

You basically summed it up when you said:
"I need to actually play the guitar first, then I have a reason to bitch..."

The thing is, if you were a least playing *something* as my original suggestion included, you would have very little reason to 'bitch' about anything. It never is about playing live, but rather about playing at all.

Griphin, get a hold of yourself right now and take as much charge as you are able. You obviously like music, so make a bit of your own, all by yourself if need be, but just do it.

It's the last thing I'm gonna say about it, but you have to have some self-respect and allow yourself to do the things you enjoy, or *would* enjoy if only you would allow yourself. The more wrapped up you get with playing could start to overtake the hang ups you have with injury and excuses to getting on with life.

I gave up on the idea of being in a band, I dunno how to say it more politely then that. I was too enthusiastic at first, seriously, I gave up when the numerous ads I posted about starting a band were ignored, the musicians I chatted with at gigs were nice enough to me, but I could see they really thought I was full of shit. Learning is really easy to do once focused (I can tune the guitar by ear, for instance). Perhaps this enthusiasm should of been shown to me like 3 years ago, time to move on I guess. In other words, it's doubtful anything will happen, and I'm not pushing for people to do anything really.

So it's best to drop this argument, cause as of right now I'm ignoring this thread. You know, it just occured to me, I guess people are desperate to find people to jam with cause noone's been this serious to make me want to learn the instrument before. *chuckle* Then again, you'll never see me play anyways, seems like a mute point. - Sat, 30 Sep 2006 10:56pm Edited: Sun, 1 Oct 2006 2:04pm

Hey Griph...I think you missed his point, and it was a good one, and from a place of honesty.
Nothing really to do with being in a band or not.....You would SERIOUSLY benefit from playing the guitar for you and only you! Who cares about being in a band, think about how your self esteem will increase as you learn new things...shit I don't care about your brain injury, I garuntee I could teach you 5 songs in an hour! and would!

Some peole like myself play live because that is what fate chose for us....I know some amazing musicians that have never once played live, doesn't make me better then them!

Don't take this wrong but move on, you can't change what life gives you......I been a junkie, had my ex wife sell over 100G in my guitars, and spent 4 years in court fighting for my rights as a father, and lots of other "bad" things but like I say life goes on....Find peace brother or roll over, not being harsh, just my opinion.

I am serious Griph, I see you walking near my in town place so you must live near, come over I'll teach you some stuff, and you can go home and play for yourself, and feel better about yourself, bring me some winegums and we'd be even.

I totally agree with you, I just felt that being in a band would give me a reason to actually learn. But I guess everyone's missing my original point, I just wanted to find a website to learn riffs from, that's it. You had $100K in musical equipment sold without your knowledge?!? Man, that's gotta hurt. Perhaps I should sit down with my out of tune guitar more often (well it gets in tune then somehow gets outta tune, that'll teach me to bang it around, good thing I paid $200 for it). It's strange how an original question asking for riffs turned into this. And that'll teach me to post all depressed and stuff. There's only one thing I need to figure out, how does one play a power chord (yes, I know it's simple, but I can never figure out what to do, that's why I'm playing around with single riffs). Also, I find it easy to hear a piece of music then figure out how to sorta play it. Winegums?!? Huh huh huh... - Sun, 1 Oct 2006 10:57pm Edited: Mon, 2 Oct 2006 11:48am
