as a person who is not 19 there are lack of shows in vic! i need to know all the venues where all ages shows can be put on..the only ones that come to mind are like..little fernwood, victoria events center, sunset room, and like thats it. and why do people think not allowing kids to come to shows will make them better??..fuck it cut the chords..

p.s i just want to make this like the biggest argument ever i think thatd be sick - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:58am

It does suck that a lot of venues don't allow kids underage, it especially bothers me when your band is playing that venue but you can't stay to even check out the other bands. A lot of places do it because they make a lot of money selling alcohol, which they usually can't do at all age venues. Some places have worked around it making people provide ID at the bar which I think isn't a bad idea, I just more places would follow that example. - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 10:15pm

We did a gig at Logan's with The Perfect Trend and only the singer was of age. They had the other two sit at a table on stage the whole time. Surely there must be some way to monitor the band members instead of keeping them in the corner for, like, an hour.

I just feel sorry for them they can't even get in front of the stage. - Mon, 28 Aug 2006 10:29pm

this is a big part of why I started putting on shows in the first place... One day if we work hard all vic shows will be all ages (at leats punk and metal) and we will have 2 good shows a week... thats the goal. One day I plan to open an anarchist center and info shop/drop inn, and it will have space for bands to play free, and for bands to practice, and 100% all ages. Just have a long ways to go first. - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 1:07am

yo noise not bombs in my head ive had this idea/dream of doing some sort of..benefit for your organization, like get a bunch of local bands(van or vic) who think the idea of alll ages shows rules and just have a BIG ASS show and all money made would go to noise not bombs who in return would hopefully put on more awsome shows/your anarchist center..rock on..that sandwhich was soo good - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 1:47pm

I been planning to do a NNB fundraiser fer a while now too, but I been donating the money made off my shows to FNB, or not been making money and giving any money straight to the bands.
I was thinking if I could get the money I would like to buy 4 mics and stands, a PA system, and create a $1000 float for renting venues and band garantees so I could bring more out of town bands more often.
I just got me a shit job at subway for the next month, or maybe two... the money I earn will largly be gouing into NNB, at least most of it. - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 7:09pm

This also pisses me off as well. Like I get fucking mad when I read something and say "oh hey so-and-so's playing! I'm definitely going." and then I read "NO MINORS". It's like your heart leaps up then falls of a cliff and splatters everywhere. Also, it's much worse the night that band's playing. You know, just thinking that if only you were a year older you could go.... sucks!! I'm starting a countdown.... 372 days until I'm not a minor... Man that seems like an eternity but I know it's much worse for those who are about 14 and stuff.... anyways now I'm mad... - Tue, 29 Aug 2006 7:27pm

As someone pointed out its not the clubs making the decision, BC liquor laws don't allow clubs to have an AA/Bar with ID setup. The only time that can happen is when a non profit organization (such as The Ska Society who do Skafest, Jazz Society who do JazzFest, ICA doing FolkFest). Many other states/proviences in North America can do this with wristbands etc but our provincial government hasn't addressed this issue yet.

If I could, I would make all shows AA/19+, but until some of the laws are amended its really not possible, plus we just don't have a proper space to do this in the city. The existing venues for AA are fine for what they're doing but anytime you have a tour that requires any sort of production values its completely impossible.

a 500 capacity venue w/ option of 200-300 capacity balcony would be ideal for the city. Bar up top, you could keep the balcony as a bar for smaller shows, maybe an indoor skate park below, run smaller bar shows during the week and when larger acts come though open up the floor and make it AA ... something like that would allow the building to keep profitable while allowing for some of these larger tours to be put forth to all ages. - Wed, 30 Aug 2006 10:39am

i just think it makes sense to have all ages show..with a bar with id...like ska/when bad relgion came/noise not bombs shows..it juse seems like the most logical idea but i do understand that venues such as sugar, lucky, legends have to obey the bc liquor laws..we shoudl just do as d.c did..put FAT x's on our hands to show the bartender not to serve us alchol..but ona seriouls note..being 16 has just been shit ive hgad to miss, the misfits!,d.o.a,against me!,snfu, the hoseeogw,CELTIC FROST/1349,new pornographers...we just need a venue like the croation cultural center in van..the venue is suberb..its medium to large size...ALL AGES..nice area and tons of bans play there(alexisonfire,messugah,etc..) but that may take...a long time...and alot of money for that to happen, but think for the long road....soo many friking good shows...whatever..thats just a dream..rock on..we shall keep striving(spelling?) to keep our local all ages scene strong!

...september 18th victoria events center all ages the hoosegow, wayne powerman, mind between the lines, bitchfork, suspended animation..10 bucks rock on
..setpemebr 23rd wayne powerman,diy,rotten fiends,delinquant solution..and...THE DAYGLOW ABORTIONS!!!!!!ALLAGES!!!!!sunset room - Wed, 30 Aug 2006 11:38am

Personally if I could do it I would make all shows all ages no booze. When I was growing up no one drank at all agers, and they shows had no problems... But it is hartd to pay the bands, and keep ticket prices down, when you dish out $200 for the venue, $150 for each out of town bands, plus mics, and a pa rental...
Many touring bands could play a bar and an all ager in the same night or over 2 days, but most don't even try. In defense of smaller bands though, many can not even get one show in a town in Canada, and thus take what they can get, but for bigger acts there is no excuse. I say we just say fuck it to those bands all togeather.

ps. dayglo are all sexist, often saying they refuse to do an encore untill they see tits, and often cause huge problems at shows, and give beer to underage girls for showing their tits, I know cause I have seen them, and leper even wrote a song about this on their new album "embarrassed to be human" the song is called "I'm a stupid fucking moron" and was written after TBA (with members of leper) played a show with Dayglo. Many dayglo lyrics are verry degrading some even verge on racist, or homophobic, well the rest are just sexist.

"We need some women up here, so we can spray you all down with beer... ...We don't do this for the money honey we do it for the titties and a little bit of cunny."

Hey NNB, first off most bands want AA shows when they come here, they just don't lower their guarentee's to play a show that costs more to put on, thats why most bands play bars.

And you can't REALLY blame them for it, I mean they gotta eat too, you can't play for $150 bux a night forever.
