Tool - 10,000 Years. A nice little bit of a return to a (slightly) more structured style featured ui nearlier works. Generally heavier than Lareralus too. I thought this was a very strong effort from those guys. A great listen and all in all worth picking up. - Mon, 14 Aug 2006 3:53pm

I just bought this disc at HMV for 14 bucks. Just released, CELLADOR - "Enter Deception". Power metal produced by Eric Rutan (Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel). It's extreme power metal ala Dragonforce but with better vocals. Definitely one of the best discs I've heard so far this year.

Strapping Young Lad - The New Black - was kinda cool
Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress - melodic power/death/something metal, interesting

I'm not impressed with how many 2006 albums I have heard, very little. I might get LoG's new one but I think you can listen to one or two songs by them from any album and get the idea.

I am really looking forward to Dark Tranquillity's new album they are recording, should be out this year I think. - Fri, 8 Sep 2006 11:04am

User Info...
Dark Tranquility Character was one of my favorite albums of last year. I can't remember all the 2006 albums off the top of my head. I'd have to look back to see what came out this year.

What I can think of:

'KALMAH - The Black Waltz'
'SLAYER - Christ Illusion'
'DEICIDE - The Stench of Redemption'
'DRAGONFORCE - Inhuman Rampage'

Albums that are decent but disappointing:

'NORTHER - Till Death Unites Us'
'IN FLAMES - Come Clarity'

All in all I think 2005 was better so far. There are still a few albums I'm waiting for this year which could make the difference. - Fri, 8 Sep 2006 3:01pm Edited: Fri, 8 Sep 2006 3:02pm

Agreed,

Come clarity was cool in it's own way, but disappointing. Being a european power metal addict I did like 'DRAGONFORCE - Inhuman Rampage' but found the vocals and some of the guitar to be too cheezy to the point of being annoying. Mainly the guitarist's little trem squeek things he does all the time. Very neat tho, keep the power metal coming!

2005 was much better, I would say Character, The Absense - From Your Grave were my favs from that year. What did you guys think of Dimmu's Stormblast Rework and the new CoB album (lol)? - Sat, 9 Sep 2006 4:59pm

Triumph of Agony - Rhapsody (of fire): Also a really good fucking album that is out soon.

A matter of Life or Death - Maiden: I like it, but i still have a problem with the songs all starting slow (for the most part).

And of course the most important and best album that will come out this year isss:

Angra's Aurora Consurgens on October 30th. It will be the best album of the year, because its angra and they are the best band in the world.

Stadium Arcadium? Really? Personally, I was really disappointed with it. I've been a Chili Peppers' fan for as long as I can remember, like for me, they go wayyy back into my early childhood. I like all their albums except Stadium Arcadium. I've heard many people say it's their best album yet, but I think it's one of their worst. The only songs I like on the album are Snow (hey-oh) and Tell me baby... Don't know why I don't like this album..

The new Patrick Watson record is really good; Beirut's Gulag Orkestar is another top pick for sure. Final Fantasy and the Bicycles also put out terrific albums this year. Was Animal Collective's Feels released in 2005 or 2006? Oh, forget it... that one's being included regardless of when it was put out. I love that record way too much.

Because the music died when Gabriel left Genesis? Or, heavy is King Crimson live, in any incarnation you prefer, but particularly with Jamie Muir and Bill Bruford on percussion.

I'll second the motion for Sunset Rubdown.

Aw what's gonna happen to this thread once January hits?

I can't believe I forgot to put in Foxy Shazam- The Flamingo trigger. Great album, had to order it online though. http://www.myspace.com/foxyshazam
Listen to "No Don't Shoot". This album is from 2005 but I don't care cuz it's good!

I also forgot Moneen- The red tree. Frickin' good album, I can't get enough of it.

I'll also put in one for the Deftones. Saturday Night Wrist rocks. - Sat, 25 Nov 2006 4:31pm

This has nothing to do with the best album so far this year. But hey I gotta express my joy somewhere. So I was in a+b sound today, and they had EVERY SINGLE CURE ALBUM. It was like the best day of my life. Last time I was there they only had the greatest hits album. Man I'm happy. - Fri, 1 Dec 2006 8:15pm

How has nobody mentioned Celtic Frost or Napalm Death? I would honestly say that Monotheist and Smear Campaign are the best albums by them respectively (though I realize I'm probably a minority). Agalloch, Jesu, Unexpect, Decapitated, Kayo Dot, Amorphis, Green Carnation, Keep of Kalessin, Hammers of Misfortune, Sahg, Tool, Wolves in the Throne Room, Envy, Katatonia, Tyr, Sleep Terror and Russian Circles have all pleased me quite a bit this year as well.

The biggest disappointments of this year have been Disillusion's Gloria, I's debut album (fuck, what happened to Abbath's songwriting talents?), SYL's The New Black, Drudkh's recent acoustic album and Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime II (well I shouldn't really call this a disappointment because everyone knew it was going to suck, but Jesus Christ...). I guess Zyklon's new one kind of sucked too, but it was so unremarkable that it didn't leave enough of an impression for me to retain as fierece an image of its suckitude as the above albums. - Thu, 7 Dec 2006 10:32pm

The newest is Swift Feet for Troubling Times.
I can burn you a copy or lend you mine over the holidays while I'm in town, if you like.

And there's also a possibility of them touring with you-know-who in the spring, so keep your ear to the ground. We are ironing out the details this very moment! - Tue, 12 Dec 2006 8:29pm

I been waiting to post on this thread.
Trying to decide. So many good new releases, but, the one I keep reaching for and playing over and over is

GREG KEELOR-APHRODITE ROSE

From the tear jerking "Miss You", socially aware "Alaska", catchy pop "If You Go", to the haunting piano that climaxes into a pyschedelic guitar mayhem "In The Reflections" this album is one of my alltime favs.
Other songs are all excellent. I don't know if this album got any air play, I only know it cause I picked it up at the show he did at the Central.

My favorite lyrics "wild flowers, proof enough, proof enough of a higher power"

edit; I forgat to mention Sarah McLachlan and the Sadies are also on this album - Mon, 1 Jan 2007 4:27pm Edited: Mon, 1 Jan 2007 5:04pm
