Canada From: [email protected] *please post widely* ANTI-CANADA DAY RALLY Saturday July 1, 2006 12 Noon @ Oppenheimer Park (Powell & Dunlevy, 1 block North of E. Hastings St. in DTES Vancouver) Drumming & Singing * Speakers Community Feast * Take the Streets This is a CALL TO ACTION. Canada portrays itself as a "peaceful multicultural" society when in fact, Canada is responsible for an ongoing assault on the identities, lives, and lands of the Original Peoples of these lands. In light of recent mainstream media smears and intimidation tactics and police/military threats against the Six Nations people, lets us demonstrate once more that our peoples do have power when we stand together and communicate with our feet and our shouts in the streets of Vancouver, in the occupied territories of the Coast Salish. These, including numerous other systemic issues, will be discussed and the subjects of focus in how we can shame Canada and improve the situation of all of our peoples: * Over 500 dead and/or Missing Aboriginal Women across Canada; * Routine police abuse, racism & violence against Indigenous Peoples; * Indigenous Peoples in Canada have the highest rates of cancer, aids/HIV, tuberculosis, and other diseases; * Indigenous peoples have the highest levels of poverty, unemployment, homelessness, and imprisonment; * Indigenous peoples have the highest suicide rates in Canada; * Indigenous lands & territories remain under attack by government and corporate forces; * Canada is guilty of the attempted genocide of Indigenous peoples; * Canada is guilty of the theft of Indigenous lands; * No Olympics on stolen land (and get the fu*k out of Haiti & Afghanistan). If everyone remembers the good feelings we all had on April 26th, when 400-500 of us took the streets of Vancouver and blocked the Lions Gate Bridge, we demanded an end to state violence and the racist provocation against Six Nations and all Indigenous peoples. Let us do that again on July 1st, and shame Canada for all that it has done and continues to do against Indigenous peoples. That was what? 139 years ago today? and since then the government has no end of incentive programs giving aboriginals extreme advantages over you and I. They have the option to have their entire university paid for, they pay no taxes on their land, the opportunities given to them to improve their living standards are endless. It's true that ever since residential schools the parents don't know how to parent their own children and this has caused alot of the troubles today, the government did fuck up there, AND there are highschool classes offered now on how to parent! they offered it in my old school as there was a reservation nearby. You can put all your efforts and energy into beating a drum and saying life is unfair, or you can use it in your studies and education, thus improving your lot in life. 500 aboriginal women have gone missing or have been murdered. Canada Day is supposed to be a celebration. A day oof work. A day to spend with family and friends in the summer. Lordpatch posts these very niche political messages on a music website but then has ZERO follow through and NO debate on the matter. I agree with a poster above, I think Lordpatch is a fake or a character designed to cause trouble and piss people off. He may be doing more harm to the causes he says he supports than good. There is a place and a way to effectively engage people with your message. Lordpatch does not get me interested in his cause and actually annoys me. So now I take this bad feeling towards him/her and equate that witht he suffereing of people. If you know of the attrocities that went on at these establishments then maybe you would realize why Lord Patch would post a call out to an Anti-Canada Rally. It would be easy to assume however that the majority of you all are white and privilidge. The colonization of the indigenous nations did not end 139 years ago, the same genocidal policies are still in place. The last residential school system in BC wasn't closed down until 1984. Natives in Canada have disporportionant suicide, death, incarceration rates than the rest of the Canadian Population. Is this something we as Canadians should be proud of? If so then it would make sense to parade around like a bunch of fools on our home on native land once every year. Also I assume Lord Patch doesn't respond to his post because most seem to be posting reactionary patriotic, sometimes racist comments.
