The Palestinians, on average, are one of the most secular groups in the Middle East. They were elected because they can control the streets, because they are the group that disrupts every other party when they attempt to yake power. Hamas is able to provide more social services then any other palestinian party, they run more school then the government did and gave more welfare. Hamas is able to do more for the average palestinian in his day to day life, and for his family, then any other party. There were also masked Hamas members with guns patrolling the streets, walking back and forth stopping people and "asking them who they were voting for." Although the media has ignored this, which is odd cuz they usually jump at a chance to attack Arab muslims, it is the truth. My brother was serving in the West Bank during the elections.
