Grain fed User Info... | I heard that the infamous locals are finally coming back in December. I'm fired up but I was wondering if anyone knew the location (Sugar I assume), ticket price (prolly 22.50 like last time) and the actual date ( I heard the 9th and the 17th). If anyone knows anything drop a message - Wed, 9 Nov 2005 10:21am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Cool!!! Oh wait a sec, I doubt I will show up, Sugar is a fuckin' skam anyways. - Wed, 9 Nov 2005 10:54am
Haden User Info... | Oh please say this is true!!! - Wed, 9 Nov 2005 12:23pm
Jesspsycho User Info... | I found on the "unofficial website" a tour date listed for Dec 9 2005 in Victoria but no venue was listed. Lets keep our fingers crossed !! - Wed, 9 Nov 2005 12:36pm
Zippgunn User Info... | Sorry to rain on your parade but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. The 9th will probably be a show in Tofino, not Victoria. They were supposed to play Logan's but that fell though. Maybe next tour... - Wed, 9 Nov 2005 4:39pm
Haden User Info... | Man...you just broke my heart.... who wants to take a road tirp to Tofino? ;P - Thu, 10 Nov 2005 12:04pm
Will User Info... | Actually Haden, I hear they're in Cumberland as well and I think we're all going up, you should come with! I think its for Dec.9. - Sun, 13 Nov 2005 12:51pm
Ward Ensemble User Info... | forgive my ignorance, but is there a reason BESIDES the prices of tickets and drinks that makes sugar a scam? I'm not being snotty, I just want to know. - Sun, 13 Nov 2005 9:09pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Well the price of tickets is one thing, I don't mind paying whatever they charge. But jeez, $3 for a bottle of water? I always thought clubs were supposed to make non-alcoholic drinks cheap because of designated drivers. It makes a person want to drink the spew they call draft beer, but I can't drink any alcohol because of the medication I take thanks to the apparent seizure I don't remember having. I dunno really, perhaps that's the going rate for water in this town (I know Upstairs lounge was selling water for about the same amount, but that was when ML7 was having there CD release party). This is why I like to go to Logan's Pub (coffee at $1.50 with free refill) or Lucky Bar (pop @ $1.00 with free refill, and I see they have Red Bull on tap, COOL!!!) - Sun, 13 Nov 2005 10:13pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | They gotta make money off those who prefer Ecstasy to drinking somehow. Although I always thought there was some rule about bars having to make water free for the dehydrated people...regular, old liability type stuff. I'm sure if you were to ask the bartender for water and indictate that you are dehydrated he would gladly hand you a pitcher to avoid potential lawsuits...unless he's a moron, which sometimes can happen. - Mon, 14 Nov 2005 4:41pm
\m/ User Info... | Griphen is right. It is a ripoff. I wouldn't mind high beer prices, if it was decent beer but it's piss beer that is usually flat and gross. Then again if they did get good beer it'd probably go up to about 6 bucks (like central bar & grill). That would have been great if NoMeansNo played Logans. shame.. - Tue, 15 Nov 2005 11:09am
Haden User Info... | Seriously Will!!!?!? Oh man, I would so be into that road trip it isn't funny. - Tue, 15 Nov 2005 11:54am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Well I guess Sugar is cheap compared to Irish Times, I've heard they sell beer (decent beer) for $8 a sleeve?!? There's something wrong there. - Tue, 15 Nov 2005 1:43pm
Brandon User Info... | Sugar's sweet as a venue. Dont know about the staff though, or the quality of draft beer. I wouldnt trust the beer lines there, they dont get used often enough and the shit that can grow in unused/uncleaned lines pretty damn gross. I dont know whats with the bartenders you are going to but i've never had to pay for pop or water at Sugar or any other bar. If you need to lie to get it say its for you or a friend who's a DD. They can sell bottles of water for whatever they want. Bars do have to give you regular water, like Mr.Hell mentioned, in glasses or jugs. - Tue, 15 Nov 2005 5:24pm
rounder User Info... | naw - irish times aint that bad...first off, they have huge pints! maybe the only bar that serves actual pints. also, the best beer is like 6.50 tops. the domestic/micro stuff is like 5.80 - Wed, 16 Nov 2005 6:49am
Haden User Info... | I can't afford Irish Times..Period. Last time I went, my pint was 7.75 and then tip on top of that. The service is always good when I'm there, but there's only so many times I year I can afford a $10 pint....not to mention how much it was after I ate. - Wed, 16 Nov 2005 6:56am
Broccoli User Info... | So you are SURE they are not comming here then? - Mon, 21 Nov 2005 8:17pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Yeah I was chatting with one of the bartenders I know down there, a pint runs about $7.25 I think, now I hear there sold in large pint glasses the price isn't that bad, although 5th Street hasn't changed their prices since I was in the hospital, and that was like 15 months ago, cept the price for Oban single-malt scotch has gone down in price. - Mon, 21 Nov 2005 10:41pm
Mace----+ User Info... | *1st ever post* hey Griph,All this talk about beer, has made me thirsty... Yeah, hey real thirsty...!? Too bad, it'll be years before the Court system, actually lets me within a Two block radius of the '5th St. Bar & Grill'(Unrelated to bar situation of not being allowed to go - I used to live next door- insane reasons of being spoiled by rats) Unfortunately, for me. I'd kill my goldbrickin' rat-fink ex-neighbours if I knew I could get away with it!! HAHAHAHA YEAH!!(They teamed up together- punks went to the pigs, got me evicted from a killer place with cheap rent, when I was and starting up a stellar jam studio- I still owe all my great equipment though...)Criminal charges and everything pending.. All anyone has to so-far look down the street towards the coat-tail ridin' fucks fuckers in that live in that neighbourhood- You know what my main motto is!??! (Hint?:"Police Evidence" (The yellow 'brick' building) Quadra&Hillside (N.E. side of the st. located across from the ATM machines in the Salvation Army)Get them, get them fast, get them good. Death to Rats!!! Death to Pigs!!! P.S.-*OMG- What a great first post on Live Victoria I did?! I wonder if it will be my last...?* :? :)lololol - Tue, 22 Nov 2005 10:54pm
Polski Ogorki User Info... | Soooo... back to nomeansno. Does anybody have any more info on the Tofino show? I assume it will be at the Legion Hall, but does one need to purchase tickets before hand? I would hate to drive all they way up their only to find it was sold out. - Fri, 25 Nov 2005 10:30am
Mace----+ User Info... | Um yeah, I wouldn't drive up there, if not having to pay for gas even, Tofino is nice sure, but anything more than 'having to hang' with the locals up there- is to be desired.. ***K TOFINO - Fri, 25 Nov 2005 12:26pm
Doppelganger User Info... | I've never heard "No Means No". I've only heard OF them.(for the past 10 years) Everyone seems t hold them out as some sort of holy grail. Sure,it may be masterful marketing, but what else? - Fri, 25 Nov 2005 3:25pm
Jesse The Malcontent User Info... | First time I saw NoMeansNo was when I was about 13 -14 at Uvic with Fracas & Pigmanet Vehicle. I don't hold them out as any holy grail, but they were the first "smart" punk band I had seen live and I think they had a hand in getting me into live music as a good way to kill time. I recommend anybody who hasn't seen them do so - even if you can tolerate sugar. - Fri, 25 Nov 2005 3:51pm
Tambo User Info... | Pigment Vehicle... Heh, the drummer works at Sidney musicworks now. - Fri, 25 Nov 2005 5:55pm
Haden User Info... | I think that show at UVic was my first Victoria gig I went to as well. I remember my mom dropping me off, being 14 I think, and her asking what type of band this was after seeing the people walking to the building.... - Sat, 26 Nov 2005 7:24am
_Griphin_ User Info... | This is wierd, according to http://www.no-means-no.de/ they have NoMeansNo playing in Victoria on December 9th, but they don't list a venue. Heh... will they be doing a surprize gig at the Rats Nest?!? BTW Mace----+: I hear ya, I myself can't drink till I get off the Dilantin, it's been a year and three months today since the assault (Sept 8, 2004). - Thu, 8 Dec 2005 9:54am
Haden User Info... | In Vic?!?! I thought that was the Cumberland show? I'm so confused.... - Thu, 8 Dec 2005 2:38pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | According to: http://www.no-means-no.de/touring.html 2005, 9th Dezember Victoria Canada, but no venue is listed. Interesting. Heh... they play Torino on the 10th of Dezember (man they really need to work on the spelling :) - Thu, 8 Dec 2005 3:39pm
Jesspsycho User Info... | From what I understand they were supposed to play Logans but it fell threw. - Thu, 8 Dec 2005 3:52pm
