Events User Info... | HOUSE OF BLUES CONCERTS CANADA presents CORB LUND & THE HURTIN' ALBERTANS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH COMMODORE BALLROOM VANCOUVER, BC DOORS 8:00 pm SHOW 9:30 pm The blazing roots-country of Corb Lund is all the more extraordinary considering its source. The frontman of indie-rock band the Smalls for 12 years, Lund sold 35,000 records sold independently with that band and toured Canada, the U.S., Europe and Bosnia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. But something tugged at the Alberta-raised Lund. Taking a break from the loud guitar music of the Smalls, Lund released an alt-country record called Modern Pain under the name the Corb Lund Band in 1995. The rich, full Unforgiving Mistress followed in 1999, and established Lund's side project as one to watch. After the Smalls retired in 2001 Lund began writing what has become his best-received record yet. Five Dollar Bill in 2002 established Corb Lund as a Canadian alt-country sensation. The disc earned rave reviews both at home and overseas and turned up on several top 10 year-end lists. Videos for the songs "Shine Up My Boots" and "Roughest Neck Around" became favourites on CMT. The band's reputation for raucous live shows began attracting full houses. Industry acknowledgement came next, with nominations for a Juno Award for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year (Group) and a Canadian Independent Music Award for Folk Album of the Year. In September of 2004 the group received two Canadian Country Music Association Awards for Independent Group or Duo of the Year and Roots Artist or Group of the Year. Corb Lund recently performed as a bar band in the Vancouver-shot film "Slither" and is expected to release a new album in the fall. In the meantime, the group's rep for a killer live show continues to draw packed houses and lively, fun-loving roots-rock music fans.
