I think this is fascinating, anyone who can point me in the right direction, books (local satanism, wiccan), city maps/layouts, etc. would be most appreciated.

The "tunnels" around the Empress are all surely gone due to the construction of the convention center (you could see bits of them while it was being constructed, looked more like pilings than tunnels though).

It's probably blocked off now but you used to be able to get into this weird space via the underground parking lot via a small metal fire door (about a meter square) which some folks squatted in for a while back in ye olde day (it was nasty though, horribly dusty). This would have gone under Douglas (if memory serves, it was a long time ago).

The tunnel between the Parliament buildings and the Ministry of Finance definitely exists because I have been in it before (again, back in ye olde day). With all the terrorism hysteria now though I would not recommend trying it. It is not "old and scary" though, more like a 60s or 70s plumbing tunnel.

The tunnels under Ross Bay are storm drains which means that they are barely high enough to crouch in. Cool for short distances but thoroughly unpleasant to hang around in for a lengthy period of time (I was literally screwed up for a week afterwards). That shot on the infiltration site with the bent over guy in the brick walled tunnel is *exactly* what they look like (I have a picture somewhere which is almost identical to that).

I haven't yet been to the Hall of Wonders but know folks who have. I do wish I had gotten into the Cecelia Ravine drains though before they got covered up.

rumor has it, that there are tunnels fron chinatown to the
harbour. This supposedly was how they smuggled opium (etc)
to the dens in chinatown. - Thu, 4 Aug 2005 8:45pm

No I haven't Tragedy, but I would really like to.

Wow, thanks for the info Moron.

The tunnels under china town were not used for smuggling opium since opium was legal at that time. The tunnels were used for moving supplies, coal, etc. from the harbour to the stores. This is of course just what I've read from the link above. - Thu, 4 Aug 2005 9:21pm

When I was younger everyone was talking about the St. Anns Academy building, that has since been reno'ed, as a site of interest to all us young freaks. Well me and two other girl friends got some tools and a flashlight and managed to get in. A couple of times. The first time I put my foot through the floor on my first step into the building (I was the first of us three since I was the smallest) thank god there was a pipe there for me to land on so I didn't go right through. Sure there were a few "interesting" moments. But all in all it was just an old condemed building that we could of really fucked ourselves in. There were a few rooms that we couldn't even walk through because we could tell that we would've fallen through the floors. We tried several times to get into the basement, attic, and chapel to no avail. Well actually one of the other girls busted in one last time with other friends and did get into the chapel with a camera. It was beautiful. The room was untouched for so long. Every picture she took had a "ghostly" image in it though. As a photo buff I tried to figure out what it was but came to no solid conclusion. What came out in the photos was not visable to the naked eye. We were all a lot freaked out by that. But honestly all I got out of the expereince was "Don't go into the dark scary places unless you are prepared to not come out". Ya there was some shit written on the walls in blood, and freaky sounds, but the years of neglect scared me more. I'm sure that any remaining tunnels are in far worse shape. - Fri, 5 Aug 2005 1:54am

Anyone know where the entrance to the Cave of Wonders by Hillside is. What wonders might I find there? I mean, besides empty Lucky cans and used hypes? - Fri, 5 Aug 2005 3:07pm

Ages back when St. Anns was initially shut down and gutted I snuck in there with a few friends and trucked around. The entire place was empty (in a spooky "Silent Hill" fashion) except for this one arched ceiling room on the top floor. At the very back of it was a red velvet "throne" type chair sitting there all alone in pristine condition. I have no idea how it survived since everything else had been emptied out or wrecked and we definitely weren't the first peeps in that place.

Somehow we managed to get it out of there and back to a safe house without getting caught on the grounds and without raising suspicion about a gaggle of freaks carrying some strange piece of Victorian looking furniture through the streets of Victoria.

=)

Oh man I want to get in those tunnels so bad. That was our quest last summer but it never worked. We tried going into that tunnel entrance in the innter habour. Its a little tunnel that you can only see at low tide... down the sea wall right by the Victoria sign made of flowers, by the corner wit hthe stairs that bagpipe guy is always at. I'm sure some of you know what I mean. It just goes in about 15 feet and there's a big chamber with a giant metal gate that has water leaking out of it. Don't know how to get past that. I used to hear rumours you could get in under Vic High, but those have been dispelled by a bunch of people.

...Sooo, anyone wanna assemble a raiding party to get into these damn tunnels? - Sun, 7 Aug 2005 2:51pm

I'm in for a crawl too. Now, I'm not going to admit that I use to crawl around the sewers of Oak Bay in my youth...wait a minute...

I also used to prowl around in condemned houses and buildings and that was loads of fun. We used to explore the old cement factory behind the Butchered Gardens before but it's gone now, replaced by condomanias. Before there were paintball guns we used to make wooden gun replicas and shoot each other with rubber bands. If one fell or hit you, you'd be dead. Sounds lame, but it worked and we had a blast in there. - Fri, 12 Aug 2005 10:31am

You at one time could get in underneath the yarrow building. I was really young then and didnt go exploring far enough when I had the chance. Really regret that now. Also there is still a escape tunnel from the parliment building to china town or somewheres around there. - Fri, 12 Aug 2005 9:38pm

There was also an entrance under McDicks back in the day when it was where the Bay Centre is now. I kinda remember you could access it upstairs and near the back from the storage room or something I think. I am also positive you can get in behind the BoomBoom Room right where the water is at that little path. All the entrances are pretty well sealed up now though. We used to try but could never get in. - Sat, 13 Aug 2005 3:06am

I do remember the passage between The old, old Bay building, went under connecting buildings when I was young and cared on down Government St. . And I've been in the ones down in front of Bastion Square by the water , but we kicked them in for access one too may times and they brick'em up , it was also accessible at the Wharf St. end of the Boom Boom room ,then “The Surfside“ , bricked also . Anyone remember the name of the guy who owned it , he was a "Bounty hunter" who had their compound right across from The "Holiday Court motel" at the roundabout at Douglas and Hillside ? - Tue, 30 Aug 2005 11:00pm

In 2000 I spent two days a week for about two months shooting footage in the abandoned police station on Fisgard, which is now torn down. All that remains of it is the facade.
Pretty cool - it had been thoroughly trashed by both squatters (there was a sleeping bag, camping stove, and other junk up in the attic above the elevator shaft) and SWAT team drills with paint bullets (fired from real weapons). We took tons of stuff out of it, namely old police ticket books, target posters, boxes of bullet shells, and had a fine time tossing stuff down the open elevator shafts. The only creepy thing we found inside was the bird skeleton in the basement, must've flown in the air vent and gotten trapped. Though the drunk tanks and jail cells were pretty creepy, some of them still smeared in human waste and blood residue. - Wed, 31 Aug 2005 11:07pm
