The fact that the group, formed more as a lark than a serious proposition by some American musician friends and a Scottish chanteuse, is still going strong is testament to the group's unique chemistry, its passion for music and its keen song writing ability. Past Garbage hits include "Queer," "Happy When it Rains," "Stupid Girl," "Special" and "Cherry Lips"; the band has earned several Grammy nominations and cut a theme for the James Bond movie The World is Not Enough. On Bleed Like Me, perhaps the band's most guitar-heavy album, fist-pumping rockers like "Why Do You Love Me" and "Bad Boyfriend" take the band back to its alt-rock roots, while still making room for sugar-pop buzz-fests "Run Baby Run", "Right Between the Eyes" and the shocking image-laden balladry of the title track. Through it all the quartet of Shirley Manson, Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker strike a balance between sex, glamour, anger, vulnerability, toughness and humour.
