HOUSE OF BLUES CONCERTS CANADA presents

NEW YORK DOLLS

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS QUINCY GOLD

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST

COMMODORE BALLROOM

868 GRANVILLE STREET

COMMODORE BALLROOM INFOLINE: 739-SHOW

DOORS: 8:00 pm SHOW: 9:15 pm

The Sex Pistols, Guns 'n' Roses, the White Stripes can all trace their lineage back to the New York Dolls. Absurd, gorgeous and cool, the Dolls ruled the New York roost in the early-to-mid-'70s with their outrageous glamour and raging anthems, which built upon the swagger of the Stones, the glam of David Bowie and T. Rex, the pop of classic '60s girl groups and the anarchic noise of Iggy and the Stooges.

And so when three of the original members (guitarist Johnny Thunders and drummer Jerry Nolan passed away in 1991) reunited for 2004's Meltdown Festival the news rang through the music world like a gunshot. Classics like "Looking for a Kiss," "Jet Boy," and "Trash" electrified the audience as David Johansen, Syl Sylvain and Arthur "Killer" Kane ripped into the tunes with a hunger that was a joy to witness.

Sadly, it was to be Kane's last show, as he passed away from cancer soon after. But guitarist Sylvain and singer Johansen are continuing on with the Dolls' legacy and are keeping the band's sense of danger and rock 'n' roll decadence alive with a series of must-see shows. It's news that is heaven-sent for the many fans, critics and fellow musicians who have learned by heart the band's first two albums, which remain among the most celebrated cult records in the history of rock 'n' roll.

Don't miss the return of the New York Dolls live at the Commodore Ballroom on Thursday, September 1st with special guests Quincy Gold.
