MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH

VANCOUVER, BC

For 16 years Trent Reznor has been defacing the rock 'n' roll landscape, lobbing mortar shells and blowing holes in the fabric of the space/time continuum with his dark industrial methods of mayhem. From the Nine Inch Nails' debut Pretty Hate Machine in 1989 through the platinum success stories of groundbreaking '90s albums The Downward Spiral and The Fragile to the group's latest, With Teeth, Reznor has been one of the most influential artists of his time. His mix of dark-textured new wave, brooding industrial, and sunny pop melodies filtered through ferocious electronics have brought him legions of fans and an exalted place in pop culture shared by few others. With Teeth blisters from the start with "All the Love in the World," and encompasses crunchy raveups like "The Hand That Feeds" and borderline new wave in the single "Only." After having been out of the limelight for six years, Nine Inch Nails' return makes the band's summer concert tour one of the most hotly anticipated of the decade.

Songs like "Medication" and "Little Sister" on Lullabies to Paralyze, the Queens of the Stone Age's follow-up to 2002's break-through Songs for the Deaf, rock as reliably loud and proud as fans could have hoped. Combining monster riffs, choppy rhythms and explosive melodies, Q.O.T.S.A. once again proves their status as one of today's premier acts, with a firm sense of rock 'n' roll history that pays homage to the greats of yesteryear while the band heads straight into the future. Opening up for Nine Inch Nails in what is surely a dream bill for rock fans, Queens of the Stone Age will leave audiences howling for more.

Don't miss Nine Inch Nails when they perform live in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum on Monday, September 26th with special guests Queens of the Stone Age and Autolux.

And of course, there not playing Victoria. Need I say more. Another failed attempt at House of Blues concerts not getting decent bands in Victoria. Not everyone can head to Vancouver to see concerts remember. Perhaps it's a band management decision, is this fair to the fans on da island?!? I sent House of Blues concerts E-Mail asking why they can't book decent bands in Victoria, I'd be curious as to there reply, if they even bother replying. - Mon, 11 Jul 2005 7:43am

Why, when your only playing 36 cities in north america would you play a 7000 seat arena in a secondary market in Canada??

Thats why they're not playing here. And double on that, the fact that most of the HOB test market shows in the youth 'rock' demographic flopped.

To keep the same profit levels tickets here would have had to have been 100-120 bux. - Mon, 11 Jul 2005 10:59am

Hmmm... I guess the bigger your band is, the more money you have to charge to break even. I thought bands would play here because there's something called fans in this city. I dunno. - Mon, 11 Jul 2005 1:32pm

Wake up and smell the latte, every item in commerce has a price and bands/entertainment are included in this. The more popular the act the more money they will charge. House of Blues is out there to make money and will do so by buying acts which they can turn arround and sell to a specific market for a profit.

The band dosen't even make decisions about where they play, thats all done by management firms, booking agencies, etc. All mr Reznor and the boys do is show up at the office, pick up their schedual that has been made for them, jump on a bus that is being driven for them, play 40 shows, and pick up a pay cheque.

This isn't to say that all larger bands don't care about their fans, its just they have fans in more places then they can be. The fact that you can jump on a boat and go see them play while still taking public transportation puts you a WAY ahead of the fan of theirs in Prince George who has to drive 13 hours to Vancovuer to see them. - Tue, 12 Jul 2005 6:38am

There's something seriously wrong with this. Yeah I can see House of Blues making money from every gig, hell knows that's the main reason why your in business. I figured it was a management decision rather then House of Blues that was at fault, but still, if the Pixies can sell out the Curling club (at 1,500?!?) I don't see why bands can't sell out the arena, which most of them will. - Tue, 12 Jul 2005 8:06am

Griphin, you seem to be missing the point. Of course those bands could sell out the arena. And they would, if they played Victoria. But why would they bother to play Victoria when even if they sold out the venue, there would still be less than half the people attending the concert than if they had played that same night in a much larger city like Vancouver or Seattle? A tour is only so many shows, and surely both the band and the management want to play the shows that will be for the biggest crowds. Selling out the arena in Victoria, by rock star's standards, does not make for a big crowd. Using your logic I could complain about big bands not coming and playing Nanaimo (even though there are fans here, and it would sell out our biggest venue). It just makes sense for major bands to go to Vancouver and not Victoria. If you want to see more big shows, don't live in a small city. - Tue, 12 Jul 2005 8:21am

Switch QOTSA to headliner, drop the other two bands and replace them with Porcupine Tree and Entombed and I'd go. - Tue, 12 Jul 2005 1:22pm

I dunno... I give up. I'm happy KMFDM is playing here (and it'll be packed), I hope bands like NiN and Foo Fighters lose money playing Vancouver, I really do. But yeah, Nanaimo and Victoria should get well known bands playing there. - Wed, 13 Jul 2005 10:15am
