AND BAD ACID TRIP

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH

PACIFIC COLISEUM

VANCOUVER, BC

DOORS 6:00 PM SHOW 7:00 PM

System of a Down is one of those rare bands who is both massively successful and stunningly subversive. The quartet's second album, 2001's Toxicity, entered the charts at number 1, eventually selling 6 million copies. The record produced four Top Ten singles, including the #1 hit "Aerials." But the record also established System of a Down as one of the most successful and creative acts in mainstream rock, with tricky tempos and razor-edged guitar riffs piling into catchy melodies and politically outraged lyrics. Mezmerize, the Armenian-American group's latest (and the first of a two-disc set, the second of which is scheduled for a fall release) continues in this vein, entering the charts at number one in the U.S., Canada and several other countries, and selling over 800,000 copies worldwide. The first single "B.Y.O.B." has been a hit on radio and music video stations, and critics have called Mezmerize- produced by Rick Rubin and System guitarist Daron Malakian-"a stunning work," "one of the most inventive, unique albums in years" and "insanely good." The group's level of commitment to its hard-edged, intense rock 'n' roll, both live and on disc, is thrillingly apparent in its aggressive guitar attack, machine-gun rhythms and Serj Tankian's manic vocals as he attacks celebrity, war and big business.

At the Drive-In was just beginning to get a taste of mainstream success when the El Paso, Texas group dissolved. All was not lost, however, as two key members, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, formed The Mars Volta. The group's debut full-length, De-loused in the Comatorium (2003), took the Drive-In sound several steps further out into the stratosphere, and sold half a million copies worldwide and landed on numerous year-end top ten lists. France the Mute, the group's explosive, expansive second record, is an even more aggressively mind-bending, expansive, amorphous head-trip that brews psychedelia, hard-rock, and free jazz. The Mars Volta's boundless ambition and jaw-dropping live show has made the band one of the leading and most progressive acts of its time.

Don't miss System of a Down when they perform live in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum on Saturday, September 17th with special guests The Mars Volta and Bad Acid Trip.

launched that shot and he was caught out there
saw 'im in a convertable, drivin by,
loaded up the sling shot and let one fly
he went for his to find he didnt have one
put 'im in check direct with my egg gun

Naaa... knowing Nickelback, they've got police looking out for them ever since they had rocks thrown at them when they were playing in Brazil (I think). Good idea though. - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 2:29pm

I saw Bad Acid Trip last year in Seattle opening for GWAR. They really wish they were System Of A Down. Badly. But they're just not very good. - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 4:32pm

I once saw the Nickleback guy pull up to the Cobalt on a dead night (early week, jam or karaoke night maybe), in whatever mega-car, and drop a $20 tip on Norm. I was talkign with someone else when he looked over and smiled and I remember thinking how he looked familiar but couldn't place him.
wierd. - Mon, 4 Jul 2005 9:21pm

Count me in. I was just thinking of dressing like a priest and totting about the evils of shitty music Jerry Falwell style.

Nickelback is just offensively bad. Anybody who thinks they're any good deserves a red-assed beat down for having such a lack of taste. - Tue, 5 Jul 2005 11:54am
