So another 4 years of Gordo! Wow, so I guess I'll get another job so I can pay for my rising tuition.

It was olvious they were going to win it was just a matter of by how much. At least now there is another voice in B.C. politics to hold them accountable. I just think its a shame that the green party didnt get more of the votes this time. I just cant justify voting for any party that has proved they are a bunch of crooks and liars and the N.D.P. have done it just as much as the Liberals... at least the N.D.P. are nice enough to pander to the working class instead of the rich folks though. - Wed, 18 May 2005 10:38am

the BC liberals are not the same party as the federal liberals - they are not related. - Wed, 18 May 2005 1:57pm

what are you talking about..?
the liberals haven't exactly been predictable (other than their incessant cuts and underfunding), hospitable, or even honest over here in BC. - Wed, 18 May 2005 9:42pm

They BC liberals are more akin to the Alliance Party than the federal liberals. The provincial NDP (in practice) are more like the federal Liberals.

IMHO.

We actually don't have a truly left wing party any more in BC. The Greens are environmentally progressive but economically conservative.

Cheers

"FUCK, how stupid are people?????"

I understand some of you guys might be a little young to remember the 90's but the NDP FUCKED UP BIG. Liberals may seem mean, but they get the job done, and believe it or not, for MOST of us, life IS better.

That being said, I voted NDP but I am very happy that Gordo and company have control of the cheque writing pen.

A stronmg NDP will keep the Liberals from selling off everything and keep them from drill and mine shit out of the ground for peanuts, the Liberals will make sure that when the tough decision like closing a school comes up, someone will pull the trigger. - Thu, 19 May 2005 6:13pm

"That makes no sense"

Yes it does. With the exception of the NDP, political parties are separate from each other at the federal and provincial levels.

And in response to the post above - it has nothing to do with age. Vancouver Islanders simply suffer from short-term memory loss. They are also under the false impression that a government can fix a decade's worth of problems in 4 short years.

The only reason you notice such a significant increase in your tuition payments is because the NDP failed to let in grow gradually, like any normal price increases. This isn't the best example, but what if the NDP had put a freeze on gas at $.50/litre, and then once the Liberals took office it was all of sudden $1/litre. Who is to blame? Go to university in any other province in Canada and you'll find that tuition is about the same as BC. Yet apparently we're getting ripped off...? Tell me what's so un-fucking believable about that.

That having been said, I wish I could have voted for the Sex Party! - Thu, 19 May 2005 10:02pm

Theres nothing unbelievable about it, but why not be honest about it instead of blatantly lying to people to get elected and then screwing them all the time when your in. I know they would never get elected if they were honest but that is half the problem right there, people know they are getting lied to but they still vote for the ones with the lies that sound the nicest.... It is almost funny in a way that because of the liberals fucking thousands of people out of jobs and money that the province is actually in way better shape fiscally than when the N.D.P. were spending money hand over fist. Moron is right, we dont have truly left wing party here anymore, the N.D.P. are called left wing but they are far from it, and the Greens on a lot of things they stand for are actually very conservative..... Even the marijuana party arent left wing, they are pretty much the reform party except that they want pot legalized. - Fri, 20 May 2005 6:47am

Socialism is so tired...

I predict a fairly sedate four years. Pending any global catastrophy life should slowly return to normal. The social service will grow accordingly. Just keep the pressure up for the things you believe in. - Fri, 20 May 2005 9:02pm

Better start packing P. Next is gonna be a massive water pipeline running south, and according to the lovely NAFTA, once the tap is turned on it shall never be closed.

I think I'll spike it with some nasty hallucinogen or other, or better yet some qaalude to chill those dumb-asses out. - Sun, 22 May 2005 10:12am

tough decision, like closing a school: school closure instead of creating national infrastructure through long term credit at 2% simple interest rates, to reorganize our bankrupt country under bankruptcy protection, for the benefit of all people.

see the difference: one is not admitting that we are bankrupt through hedge funds, floating exchange rates, and an independent central banking system (who controls the money controls the country see, so government's funtions under a fair constitutional government such as that laid down in the original US constitution in early 1700 are meant to regulate currency and interest rates, and exchange rates FOR THE GOOD OF ALL).

the other viewpoint stated in earlier post about "tough decisions about closing schools" is to deny that the economy is collapsing due to systemic error, and think that it is normal to deny basic education to our children, and that fiscal austerity is all that's needed to solve our economic problem (actually bankruptcy). That's like saying you can pay your debts by not eating, and living on the street, but that there is no economic problem! (or more specifically like saying you'll keep your children ignorant and uneducated because you can only afford to pay off your SUV instead (exemplary, considering where Canada's money is going (to shareholders and Vulture funds who claim a right to their money regardles if LIVES are being lost to claim it!)) - Tue, 24 May 2005 12:00pm

"as soon as they start selling off all of our natrual resourses to retarded american's I'm moving to spain."

I've already got that plan in the works....

However, a point that a lot of people seem to be missing is that, although Carole James' party has the same name and generally the same supporters as Mike Harcourt/Glen Clark/Ujjal Dosanjh's party, it has very different leadership and a very different platform.... It's asinine to assume that they'd govern in the same way.....

HOWEVER, I don't think they're ready to govern yet, and they had no transition plan (know, very realistically, that they had no chance of forming government).... C'mon guys, from 3 MLAS to, what, 33? A 75 seat spread to less than 15? That's something to celebrate and be proud of.... - Wed, 25 May 2005 9:12pm

I agree it's nice to see some people in there that at the very least will be able to hold the liberals in check every once in a while. On top of that everything wont be behind closed doors now, we will all know when the liberals are going to fuck us now anyways. Hey in four years maybe we will be able to know when the N.D.P. is going to fuck us as well. - Thu, 26 May 2005 6:07am

At least we'll be getting fucked a plenty. The best part about the NDP winning so many seats is that the Liberals will need to be concered with popular opion this term if they hope to have a third in 2009. - Thu, 26 May 2005 8:40pm
