I feel Im lost in a sea of emo teenie boppers. why is is this forum so heavily dominated by EMO,METAL,GRUNGE, AND WHINE-ROCK. I can respect all opinions and decisions but a simple "other" catagory would make me feel more at home.

I love good old rock such as Paul Butterfield, Elvis pressley, chuck berry, louis jordan, jimi hendrix and counless others and for me nobody EVER played heavier.
I find to many METAL MUSICIANS have forgotten their roots in the blues and roots music. And thats something i cannot easily forget.

I have been reading and participating in ths forum for a few months now and i needed to share this point of view.

and Just remember the right note at the right time all on its own can be heavier than the golds gym yet soar like a bird. - Sat, 2 Apr 2005 7:17pm

Anyways, awhile back there was a post about a blues band starting up, send D'arcy or Justin an email at

I heard Kris of the North might be doing vocals for them but it doesn't look like it has taken off yet. They're probably still interested though. - Sun, 3 Apr 2005 12:08pm

Go see a young band like Black Tie Social and tell me what category they fit in. I have a feeling they all know and respect their musical roots, and the result is some beautiful music. Shameless plug, I know, but a fine example of a group of youngsters who refuse to fall into one defined category of music. - Sun, 3 Apr 2005 12:37pm

The new band I'm in has a lot of blues based music. It is a lot like Corrosion Of Conformity, Prong {not that prong is much of a bluesy band} and Black Sabbath, as well as a bunch of other cool heavy rockin' bands. Mr. Curtis Cox is on guitar and Byron Mulcaster of ex-Buddlust on drums. We are getting the stuff in order and hope to be playing shows soonish.
I agree that there isn't enough of that roots recognition going around these days. I'd still rather listen to 70's Deep Purple than any Swedish runny melo-metal. - Mon, 4 Apr 2005 8:21pm

Really? ...go listen to Nile or Napalm Death and tell me they aren't heavier. No offence to anyone my ass. You are taking stabs at peoples lifestyles, of course they are going to be offended. How's this? No offence but you're a fucking idiot. I think Judas and Maiden were the ones that destroyed the bridge between metal and blues not the fans. Metal has evolved over the years unfortunately you haven't. You small minded, contradicting, pathetic excuse, of a person....

Well, to be brutally honest, the above two posts are written by complete morons, and I'm not saying that solely based on the spelling and punctuation, which I could. No, I say this because these two mentally incapable metal-heads can't read and have missed the point entirely. First of all, Satan (oooo, scary), Sabbath blow chunks; Deep Purple are pillocks; Alice (in Chains, I suppose) suck; Kiss...well, I mean, for Christ's sake, it's Kiss; Judas Priest are fucking atrocious; MC5 are a neat novelty, but they suck too; Styx rock less than B44; and who the fuck is ELP? Floyd is a great band, and they embrace their roots, so he was hardly having a crack at them, and he bloody well mentions Hendrix at the top.

Now, this Odin fellow seems to have recieved some form of dictionary or thesaurus for his birthday, and now considers himself lord and master of the english language. Unfortunatley, he's still an idiot. "Metal has evolved over the years...you haven't". Brilliant,just brilliant. Metal has evolved, you're right, it's gone from not very good to horrendous. The good bands who really rocked hard (Zeppelin, Hendrix and the like) embraced the blues, but were never metal. I don't agree with placing bands exclusivley in genres, but when it comes to metal you have to, otherwise the suck would be overwhelming. And if metal is your life style, god help you. Oh no, I just spent five minutes on you worthless shits. I could have been doing something worthwhile in that time, like clipping my toenails. - Tue, 5 Apr 2005 9:49am

nice name, I wouldn't be making fun of Satan if all your brain can conjure up is hmmm. Second of all, wow you're ignorant. If you are too closed minded shut the fuck up. "Alice (in Chains, I suppose)" You dumb fuck it's Alice Cooper. Why would he be talking about a second rate grunge band if he's listing off metal? I know it is hard but think before you speak. Just because you're too much of an idiot to conjugate a sentence with out the aid of a dictionary or thesaurus, doesn't mean I have to. Don't take your frustration out on Satan and I just because you were dropped on your head. You are a text book rock snob with the brain capacity of an ant. Music will continue to evolve while you dinosaurs collect dust and die off. If you're too blind and/or ignorant to see this I pity you. If I were you, I wouldn't be calling anyone an idiot. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. If all else faills I at least wasted your time again by making you read this rant blah blah blah you're an idiot. HAH! - Tue, 5 Apr 2005 11:40am

in some ways i can agree with Odin. i'd rather listen to something modern than spend my time weeping away in the past.

i still respect the classics. but that doesnt mean they have any more influence on me than lets say any band that i like from the past 5 years.

when you start claiming all "modern" music is losing its edge and we need to go to back to a "better time", well you're a total hypocrite. people used to claim "rock and roll/blues" were garbage, people would complain about them not sticking to the roots of even older music. so don't bother, music evolves. evolution is a sign of life, if it stopped evolving and changing it would be considered a dead art form.

and for the record, "the right note at the right time all on its own can be heavier than" arguement is so tired. i'm sure for some people this is true, but not for everyone. this has NOTHING to do with musics merit to the public, but merely the individual - Tue, 5 Apr 2005 1:53pm

You guys are getting a little defensive, aren't you? He didn't take a stab at anyones life style, all he said is that he wanted to see a little variety. If you read the post again, you'll notice Mr Malloy didn't so much as even hint that your music sucked, or that you were dumb for liking it.

That being said, I too spend much time lamenting the limited Genre-span on this message board. Although, I should add, my tastes are about as far away as Mr. Malloys as they could get. I have nothing against Metal & Emo & Punk or what-have-you, but it would be nice to see some more variety on here. - Tue, 5 Apr 2005 1:57pm

who says satan even listens to metal? maybe he listens to heavy d and the boyz. or jefferson airplane. maybe he's more into the indian music video thing. man, think of the masses of screaming and whining loud a-holes he has to listen to in the pits of hell. you really think he wants to go back to his huge black underground castle and listen to slayer? shit, he probably puts on a little zamfir or john denver. i'll bet you the hardest thing he listens to is the stones.

oh, and if you want to blame the state of today's music on something, blame it on the lack of clean acid. - Tue, 5 Apr 2005 4:03pm

Yea know if you want to see more rhythm & blues people on here go tell your friends who play this genre and spread the word ,......right .....where are they ? Not here mate .Unlike the community of Metal/Punk/modern rock people who post on here and connect and converse with each other, even party together. You fucking whining bastards who think everything should be like the old day, there was NEVER a good old days and who the fuck are you to tell others when the good old days were ?

Not only is this post in the wrong forum you two seem rather belligerent and hell bent on causing trouble and if that’s what the old days is about then you can have it ,then leave and don’t let the door hit you on the ass . I never said anything negative about the blues and as a matter of fact I studied for over a year on strictly the blues , plus 8years of classical training , also studying the baroque period . You know this time of music right ? Characterized by increasing complexity and emphasis on contrast, sounds a little more like metal then some redundant 12 bar blues?

I’ve refrained from calling names but if you continue then the gloves come off and remember you may bump into me on the street ……….aaah yep !
Ever think about asking (posting) if any of us are interested in playing or hooking up to play instead of this slam at others styles of music .

ELP = Emerson,Lake and Palmer

Alice = Cooper

No shit talk about YES ? You tell me they weren’t technically great musicians ,I doubt you could pull off the guitar work on any of those early LP’s or even last a few bars if even understand it.

And shit talking Sabbath = you need to die . - Tue, 5 Apr 2005 4:42pm

yeah, i was just saying...you know, that in lucifer's 7 million disc cd changer there's probly like a pretty wide variety of content and shit, you know? there's probly like wide mouth mason, waylen jennings, wynonna judd and wham! on his mixed w's disk, you know what i'm saying? think about it, if there's 29 letters in the alfabet and there's like 5 musicans for every letter...then um, that's at least over a hundred right there, right? i'm just saying to not just assume that the black angel is gonna put paranoid or war machine on repeat for a thousand years. he's smart and hard and shit, but i'm sure he gets down and the ol' lady probly gets on him and he just needs to let his emotions out. you think he listens to clutch then? do you? didn't think so. you can't give er' all the time...not even if you're like 20 feet tall with horns and and a four foot forked tongue and a giant sword that'll shred titanium like its nothin'. wake up. - Tue, 5 Apr 2005 4:51pm

By the way, blues is not dead last time i checked. If you like blues, listen to new blues artists. Don't tell people what influences they should have,

ITS ALL ROCK AND ROLL....

...except for the neoclassicists who despite their genre's origins claim only folk and classical influence in their music. They should still pay their respects to those who built the genre, but not nessesarily musically. - Tue, 5 Apr 2005 9:47pm

This is one of the funniest posts i've seen on this freakin' hostile site. All I got to say regarding everything above is: Guess what? All music has it's roots. It came from somewhere before YOU. In the end all the rock, the blues, the metal, the emo, and everything inbetween basically came from black slaves singing folk tunes while picking cotton, and european classical music. It took a couple hundred years to become what we all listen to today, but that doesn't make any less important. Try listening lots of DIFFERENT music. I play metal, I love metal, I want to play it for a living. I also play jazz, I love jazz, call me what you want but it's an interesting form of expression that I enjoy. And ya know what? I listen to classical too, and folk, and funk, and punk, fusion, talented rappers, techno, whatever... I like good music in general, too bad some people don't..... oh and I like Satan too. - Wed, 6 Apr 2005 6:15pm
