| Kimberleykaos User Info... |  I know, this isn't my usual style of music or club, but they have just re-opened recently {the old Bar Victoria} and have a new look and some good tunes. I have heard this guy play improvised beats, scratchin' and spittin in out in the mic himself...and it is well worth a visit. Besides the popular music and shit he has to play, he takes all requests and usually slips something in there that doesn't belong on hip hop night anyways. | Kimberleykaos User Info... | Yes, I consider anyone who loves music, has extensive musical knowledge, and music related skills of any kind, interest or instument to be a musician at heart...they're out there trying to please people too, that come out to hear music, whether it be their own or not, or tweaked with their own style a bit...and some {including my friend} are excellent with spontainious beat mixing or live rappin', so why would they not be? Believe me, it is strange to hear myself defend any music other than my own favorite genres, but I love all music myself, and like to keep an open and positive mind about anyone creative. He also prefers different genres than what he has to play to pay the bills, and is a skilled guitar/vocalist so...yes. - Tue, 25 Jan 2005 8:26pm | ||

| Mutilashawn User Info... | hip hop is good. it has good intensions and it is meant to entertain and to enlighten. look at early hip hop: politically minded and actually intelligent. many people complain that it is just people talking over a beat. yes, but how is it different from say a death metal vocalist. no REAL talent, just the ability to make vocals flow with the music and memorize lyrics. but it is more about the over-arching theme and atmosphere; a lyrical style that fits the music, right? right. what it has become is what I have a problem with. totally opposed to the original hip hop culture . . . it isn't about music at all. it's about money and image. so I have a major respect to anyone who makes efforts to make hip hop and rap about the music and not the image. *edit* in retrospect, this was a very uncalled for and poorly placed rant (if you can call it a rant). but I thought I'd get the thread back on track. rather than add to the "OMG OMG I HATE KK!!" - Thu, 27 Jan 2005 4:17pm | ||
