2nd Annual M*POWERS - addressing concerns

kasper Hello, all. Thank-you for your interest and concern with The 2nd Annual M*POWERS. It demonstrates that you care enough about the local scene to discuss this topic.

To clarify, the artist submission stage is only the first stage of the nomination process. As was the case with the inauguaral awards, the 2003 version will incorporate a public voting period (between March 10 and April 10) to determine 3 to 5 nominees in each category. The M*POWERS jury of Vancouver Island music industry representatives will then select a single winner in each category...and these winners, of course, will be announced on the night of the May 18 ceremony at Legends.

As stated in my initial posting, all categories are non-genre specific, and both public voting and juried selections will be open to all styles of music.

It must also be clarified that M*POWER Events is an event production company. When awards were presented for the first time in February 2002, M*POWER was not representing or managing any of the award winners or nominees. M*POWER will assume the same impartial role in 2003 and in all future years.

A posting on this topic's initial thread recommended that artists apply to anything and everything that may give them exposure. I must concur with this suggestion. Don't let misinformation or misconceptions impede your opportunity to receive your well-deserved exposure.

The mission statement for The M*POWERS, from the beginning, has been to produce an event which will bring together all facets of the local independent music scene, to encourage a sense of community spirit within this scene, and to bring public awareness to independent music on the Island.
Let's work together to make the Vancouver Island indy music community that much stronger.

Sincerely,
James Kasper

Hyder I post anonymously because I want my opinion to matter not identity. I'm going to support this...I would love to give an award to another band just because they make it( music that is) . I believe no one likes to lose so they talk about competing with reverance.Well....create the climate in yourself, dont expect to go and win just go and watch bands play. Everything is flawed, most of you know that by looking in the mirror every morning but you do what you do with what you got.so here are my nominations
BEST MALE VOCALIST: I DONT CARE I'M DRINKING
BEST FEMALE VOCALIST: I'm too busy nettworking
BEST PRODUCER: hEY WHO'S TOURING THIS SUMMER?
BEST ARTIST: I THINK THESE DRINKS ARE WATERED DOWN
BEST SONG: HOW CAN WE EXPLOIT STUDENTS TO MAKE VIDEOS?
LAST BUT NOT LEAST CARRER AWARD: SCOTT HENDERSON JUST SO HE CAN TURN IT DOWN - Mon, 23 Dec 2002 12:29pm
