So on the way home from a long week at work I finally hit the new Ditch records. Big serious stock, asked for the new FM3 buddha box 3.0 (behind the counter not out yet) bought one, interesting space and strings loops.

Heard Inara George nail a Nilson tune that is deceptively simple to sing (it ain't!) last night on a 70s something documentary (I mean the players were in their 70s). So on a whim I looked for her work (last singer who got my attention like that was Nekko Case), found three Cds, under Bird and Bee. Like Nilson she hates playing and probably only did it cause crazy Uncle Van Dyke Parks asked her to for his old friend, some bass player and his buddy Joe walsh (some guy called ringo on drums).

Was suprised at all the reissues of things like DOA hardcore 81 (I was there), husker du Zen arcade (yupe) and various Nick Cave work I may play very loud on bad ocassions. The reissues of King tubby were so exact (store stamps and the labels) that at first I thought they were originals (naw Vinyl was too good).

Not bad techno, lots of Kid606/autechre, saw two avantgarde things by artists I respect from back in the day (stephan Micus and Pauline oliveros). piles of German electro compliations that seem weird if you have the bits already, like some crazy electro smorgesboard or drinking red/blue/green/yellow layered liquor (don't!).

Staff were nice but I declined on agreeing to like Hall and Oats, even if bird and bee sing it. Abandonette Lunchonette or not, just say no. Zeppline seem big right now. Sigh, Anyone got alexis Korner Bootleg him for sale? (Plant the year before they formed, and Alexis singing Sunrise).

Anyway much as I love Turntable and Gordies Music Zen Arcade for $10)and Lyles, and I do, it struck me the bar had gone up locally with the new store. Back in the day (1975-1985) to get this much cool I'd have to go to Vancouver.

I was formed by Richards Records (hey Scott&scottie lets get mixing after the outrageous Dave P Smith LP is in the can)

Soooo, I figure the new Ditch is worth kicking out for a thread? Let's talk us and our culture, cause we seriously got some locally.

Records and cds are dead, not? Or just plastic audio porn for yuppie civil servants to pee away money on?
Ah, A&B. Where's my Mingus & sun-Ra 8-tracks? Listen to scratchy records and enjoy my decline, (iggy)
cheers,

loving here

Is Jeremy still at the helm there? Or is it Laird?
"Or just plastic audio porn for yuppie civil servants to pee away money on"....huh....rich....did you come up with that? Now I have (the awesomely shredding) "I Will Never Forget You" stuck in my head.
I miss Kelly's and House of Stein.

What'd the FM3 cost? - Sat, 14 May 2011 8:06pm

Those re-issues have been at Ditch since they used to be located in their older building. I know, cause I bought both DOA and Husker Du last year sometime. Although I was surprised to see The Beatnuts on vinyl (and cheap too), as well as Eminem-Recovery. Most expensive vinyl down there (well some of them), Cypress Hill-Cypress Hill and Cypress Hill-Black Sunday, selling for $53 each. - Fri, 20 May 2011 1:15am

Re: fm3
It was about $32 w tax/no battery. They have the earlier ones: 1st ambient loops, 2nd guitar-ish w/pitch dial, #3 Chinese trad strings, banjo/lap steel-ish&higher bitrate. From Chigao is a goth/noise/suicidalpoetsone. And throbbing gistle's one of album loops. - Fri, 20 May 2011 11:52am Edited: Fri, 20 May 2011 11:56am

I find the new ditch is way too big and for all I've heard about these boxes and boxes of records they supposedly have sitting around somewhere and couldn't put out due to lack of space at the old store yet it seems to me like it's really a lot of the same stock just spread out over a bigger space. I prefer the feel of the original ditch, but maybe that's just me. - Sat, 4 Jun 2011 1:22pm
