Let me start by saying a big thanks to the bands for ripping it up and giving 100% on their sets and of course a big thanks to the Staff at Lucky Bar as well as Darcy for the killer sound.

Well I was a bit worried as Reaver was a no show for sound check due to some van issues but like usual bad start great ending!!

Overproof was the first band to hit the stage and they came out all guns blazing...The vocals were top shelf, raw, in your face pure metal grit and when the vocals called for a little more melody Ben brought it in spades...Ben showed a voice that was truly amazing through out the set and compared to the days of Pantera tribute band Regular People where it was all about the nasty gruff he brought a new and welcomed quality and range to Overproof that wasn't showcased before (I am glad they are showcasing it now though!) ....The blazing guitars by Colin and Lucius were just that blazing (I am surprised their fingers didn`t start smoking) Pete held the bass line perfectly and Stefano was the quintessential drummer extraordinaire we have all come to love and a great fit for this band! Overproof set a level for the other two bands to follow that I thought would be unobtainable ..... Was I ever wrong! Not to mention the killer energy level they brought out of the amazing crowd....

Rotten Rails was up next and I swear these cats get better, edgier, heart thumping nastier each and every time they play. Rob Tayler`s vocals were so good and uniquely raunchy someone asked me if he was using effects to create his vocal sound (for the record it is all him and a little help from a friend called Jack Daniels...lol) The band was so incredibly tight when they started their first number someone came up to me and thought it was a CD playing....the driving beats from Dylan on the drums combined with Sean`s bass lines and the gritty no nonsense primal riffs from Jordan kept that crowd insane...it sure is a wicked pit when someone loses an eyelid!!! Rotten Rails were at their Rottenest Best once again!!

Well I thought the first 2 bands would have the crowd worn out but not on this night and when Reaver took the stage it was like watching perfection....their stage presence, their timings, their amazing sound .... Reaver has that IT factor and they displayed it once again in top form....It is always a great show when you see these guys play but the other talent is catching up to them with bands like Rotten Rails, Overproof and Scimitar so I hope it keeps driving Reaver to even higher levels cause I can only imagine how amazing that would be!!!

Great atmosphere, great crowd, great sound and great bands....what else can you ask for! - Wed, 11 May 2011 4:09pm Edited: Wed, 11 May 2011 4:10pm

Wow, thanks Jo!

I wish I could offer my two cents but because of our bus issues I ended up being confined to the backstage area while I franticaly tried to get all of my things in order to hit the stage. We had to go buy a new battery for our bus as it was stuck in the middle of the road by our jam space. After 4 different places, we finaly found the proper battery and installed it. Anyways, even without a sound check Darcy is unable to NOT make a band sound amazing. From the second we busted out our first distorted chords I was amazed at the sound quality on stage. Here is my favorite video of the night:

Yup, we had a fucking hell of a good time!!! I personally was nervous as shit. Its one thing to bust out cover tunes (ala pantera) and make people rock the shit out of it, and a very different other to try and get a crowd with your own tunes.
All the bands fucking slayed!!!! We're playing with Rotten Rails again on June 17th! Should be a kick ass show. Cheers, Lucius - Mon, 23 May 2011 8:43pm
