loved it, the amount of tattoo boobies running around was pretty good. Bloody Betty was fun, Rotterdam kick ass. Those were the only shows I saw from the floor. Cheers, Lucius - Mon, 21 Mar 2011 7:40pm

Well let me give you my two cents bro....I was there Sat unfortunately I missed a band that I think is just rad....VonBones so can't give my opinion there. However I showed up in time to witness a killer new act with familiar faces called Overproof...the boys from Regular People (Pantera tribute band) + a new drummer Stefano (formerly of Saul and Dizzy) ... not only did this band rip it up and slay they were a lot more interesting doing their own stuff. Even when they did one cover they absolutely demolished it and made it entirely their own and I don't think ELO will ever sound the same in my head again! If you get a chance to see Overproof I suggest you go they slay!

Next up was Bloody Betty, now personally I don't get it but a ton of people love it to the core and I say good on you for doing something completely different, and from the look on the crowd's faces completely fun cause everyone was having a great time.

After Bloody Betty there was a complete rotation of the Earth as one of my favorite local acts Weak Patrol took the stage...now not a rock your socks off band, they won't melt your face off or have you throwing your hands in the air demanding the world for change...no but that is not what this amazing act is in it for. Their non-stop energy on the stage is put out for one reason and that is tongue-in-cheek fun. And that is what they delivered. One can just not stop moving when this band plays and you always feel "good" and "happy" after partaking in a Weak Patrol show.

The next band up was Buzzard...the players were stout and the singer had a great voice however it wasn't used enough. The long instrumentals for me came off a little drab and and I was always looking for just a little more but not receiving what I thought would come. The ending of their set was pretty wicked when the guitarist played the feedback perfectly...a lot of potential just didn't quite deliver what I hoped.

Up next was my favorite band on the planet Funk Vigilante and even with Eric Hogg standing in at lead guitarist on short notice they ripped it up as always. Ghosty Boy delivered and owned the stage like most front men only dream about doing! Matty Bass was a maniac on bass and Judler was thumpin on the drums! John held down on the keys and samples and played the trumpet perfectly. Eric was more than solid filling in on guitar. The haunting song Tank Man was unforgettable. Funk Vigilante still rules my world!!

Ninjaspy followed up next and I only have one question...How the hell can they top each performance every damn time!!! These guys are the quintessential performers that dominate any size stage they hit and you are absolutely blown away every time. I just had them for a show at Vlounge a month ago and I thought that was their best performance....Nope! During every other set people sat in the beer garden like it was your local pub crowd (even with the great performances before TheSpy took the stage). By the time Joel started the 3rd song the front of the stage was crowed with people "Throwing the Skank Down!"...They were spectacular!

Now after all those performances you would think it couldn't get any better but to close out the night we had the best pure rock and roll band in BC if not Canada...Black Hat Villain hitting the stage. Unfortunately this was to be Scotty Tuesday's (aka Scott Valentine) last show with the Dirty Dangerous Ones...his strong vocal styling will be missed by all the BHV fans because his throaty brilliance is unmatchable. And he was on a mission for his last show right from the first note as he came on the stage and pointed out to a complete douche (that being me) "You may not recognize this face but you will recognize this voice and I am still the boss!" (for a complete faux pas I committed earlier in the day that was uncalled for and completely unprofessional on my part and I truly and sincerely apologize for, what can I say sometimes I am stupid) However the anger and passion he sang with only added to his legendary status as one of the best front men in the business and he completely annihilated BHV's set in an unforgettable performance!

Probably one of the best lineups I have ever seen as far as performances go. The sound was great the setting was great (big props to the boys who put this amazing event together because it kicked ass!!) I had one amazing Saturday, if I would have kept my foot out of my mouth it would have been absolutely perfect! - Tue, 22 Mar 2011 10:24pm

You could say I neglected to recognize...I neglected to recognize that Scotty was right in front of me when I was talking to Abe about future shows of BHV and wondering if they were having open tryouts for singers....and it was his last performance with the band so pretty douchey move on my part...However the man can plain rip it on vocals when he is pissed. I have seen BHV probably 3-4 times and the way the anger worked with his voice probably my favorite vocal performance from BHV to date! - Fri, 15 Apr 2011 3:39pm Edited: Fri, 15 Apr 2011 3:39pm

You should be proud. It sounds like because of you, he had his best preformance ever. - Sat, 16 Apr 2011 7:24am Edited: Sat, 16 Apr 2011 7:33am

I was being sarcastic actually.
It was public knowledge that it was his last show with the band and as a fan, you were wanting to know the next move. Is the guy that insecure that he has to go on a rant that someone didn't recognize him or coddle his feelings over nothing at all?
Who is this guy again? - Sun, 17 Apr 2011 11:44am

water under the bridge...got to remember artists are kinda their own species...love em....don't always quite get them but that is what makes them awesome...takes a different type of person especially if they are a great front guy/girl to get up and be the main focal point of a show for an hour in front of any type of crowd...take a normal person who is not musically savvy but just likes to listen to music and they won't know if a drummer missed a note, or if the bassist or guitarist played a wrong riff but if the singer fucks up it is glaring so they are always under pressure...and they can't just say my gear is acting up...lol - Thu, 21 Apr 2011 6:55pm

Yeah, but if we have a bad night vocally, we can just say we're trying to go for that indie sound that's so popular with the kids these days. - Thu, 21 Apr 2011 8:26pm
